My mom has been at Elderwood in Wheatfield for two years now in the dementia unit. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They are caring, efficient and always accessible. Yes, they are short staffed at times, like all places since COVID, but the staff will work tirelessly and all pitch in to make it work. Mom never complains about the food. Her room is sufficient and comfortable for her. This nursing facility is spotless and never smells of urine like other facilities. I and my 4 daughters are there quite frequently and if we do have a concern, we bring it to the staff and it is dealt with promptly and satisfactorily. From Michelle, the Director (who greets me warmly when I enter) to the head of Nursing on Unit 1, Char, and Brandi the aide—all are the kind of people you would want to leave your mom with. I also have to mention Sirhaira, a nurse, who sweetly kisses my mom on her cheek and always is so positive and encouraging. I highly recommend Elderwood at Wheatfield. I cared for my mom in my home for 3 years, and it broke my heart when I realized that I could no longer do it. I am so happy now to see my mom get the level of care she needs and I could no longer provide.

My tour of Elderwood Assisted Living at Wheatfield was very good. It was done professionally, and the facility was very clean and very organized. The rooms were clean and set up well. I saw the dining area, and it was good. It was very nice. The staff who gave the tour was very pleasant and answered all my questions. She did not rush me or anything, and she was very thorough.

Staff and management are constantly quitting. They don’t care about the resident. They serve the worst food - un-toasted toast, high saturated heart attack inducing foods. They don’t listen to their residents as taking their money is their only goal. They violate the privacy of residents, don’t communicate well and just don’t care, with the exception of some nurses. They’re so cheap they have the nurses assist with meal service, taking away from the resident needs. You can see why staff quit left snd right, and the residents suffer for it.

There was one aid on duty on Sat. Since my relative needs to change clothing in bed, my relative had to stay in bed in mid afternoon when needing assistance and a change of clothing.

Our mom's room was nothing like the pictures. It was horrible. The furniture was old. The only chair was broken. The mattress wasn't fit for a rat let alone a human being. The staff all but disappeared when she needed something. The toilet area was disgusting. Needless to say, we realized our mistake and took her out of there within a couple days.

My mom is at a nursing home called Elderwood in Wheatfield. Her condition is such that she can't do an enhanced assisted living, so that's where we are at. It seems to be fine, she says she's happy there. I haven't been able to see her, so I'm going with what I'm hearing from the nurses and social workers, plus my mother. She says she likes her room but cognitively she has some issues. What I'm getting from her is that she likes the staff and that they're good to her. She seems to be content there. I don't get as many updates, generally I call and I ask. It's not that they don't update, it's just that if I have questions, I always call and ask. For activities, they have many activity levels, but I don't know if she can participate in any of them. She has breathing issues and she's on oxygen, cognitively she's deteriorating. Physically, I'm guessing now she's in a wheelchair. Right now, she's happy, and they seem to be on top of what's going on with her. If I call they do answer my questions. They're probably understaffed and overwhelmed like everybody else today, but they seem to be doing well with her and she likes them. It's a very expensive place, it's $13,000 a month, but I have not been in there to judge the rooms sizes or the conditions. All I know is that I've been online to check them before and they seemed to have good reviews.

Elderwood Assisted Living at Wheatfield was wonderful, but they didn't have a memory care unit. If my husband needed extra care, we would move in there in a second. The staff was extremely nice. They had nice little houses around the property. They had everything there like exercises and a lovely dining room. It's like being in a hotel.

Elderwood Assisted Living at Wheatfield was very welcoming and clean. It was like walking into a luxury hotel. The staff was very pleasant and professional when I talked to them. I was hoping to get my dad there. Everybody seemed very nice. The atmosphere was very comforting. The furniture looked very comfortable to sit on, and there were flowers around and beautiful pictures. There was an activity room where they were playing bingo. I saw a couple of televisions where people were sitting there watching. They kept the residents busy. It was very pretty.

We chose Elderwood (Elderwood at Wheatfield) because it has the exercise equipment to give my wife the proper exercise that she needs in long-term care, and it's close to home. The rooms are great, the community is fantastic, and the family can visit her almost every day. It is well set up. I need some help getting her in there, though, since there is a severe waiting list. It may take a couple of years.
