Care was excellent until needs rose. Found my dad laying in urine, with nothing to eat at three in the afternoon. Admitted to hospital with two bedsores and dehydration. Cepsis that went to his lungs and heart. Stay away.

The Bristal in Massapequa has been absolutely amazing with the care they have shown my Mom. The level of patience and compassion as well as attention and treatment extended has really made a very positive impact, especially since we relocated my Mom from out of state. All the staff but also including Jen, Danielle, Janani, Carla, and Cynthia have really been on top of my Mom's needs with very individualized care. We feel like my Mom gets extra special treatment, but when visiting the facility we see that others are also treated the same way. Thank you Bristal, we are very thankful and grateful for you!

My mother moved into The Bristal Assisted Living at Massapequa. She's adjusting very well, and she's doing very well. I liked everything about the place. Geography entered into it, I live in Massapequa (that was the deciding factor). They're very nice. It's well maintained. It's clean, and the staff is friendly. They're very caring. I think they're eager to do a good job. I think the management is very good. They communicate well with the residents and the families.

My mother-in-law is at The Bristal at Massapequa. It's a clean, professional environment, very caring and safe. The staff is excellent, very attentive, and very professional. The rooms are very clean. The facility is very bright, with lots of lights, the colors, the way they decorated it, it's very pretty. It's a nice facility. The units are like studios and have little kitchenettes. They don't have full kitchens. They have bingo, an art room, a movie night, some exercise, in-house PT, a hair salon, and a beautiful courtyard. She loves the meals and she's very picky. They offer a lot. All the residents are vaccinated, so it's a safe environment. We've checked into others, and I guess they're on the higher end of pricing.

My mother spent two and a half years in the Dementia area of this facility. Since in has been almost three years since she was last there, I will not go into areas where I have no current knowledge. My mother had a nice private room with a good-sized bathroom. There is a kitchenette in each room but they are not used at all. My only criticism of the room was the large window heating and cooling unit which you could self-adjust but which made a lot of noise. Don't think my mother could hear it. Meals were generally good, but dementia ward got what was left over from assisted living and sometimes a dish sold out. They would always make you an egg sandwich or a burger if you didn't like the choices. Aides. This is very important. I would only rate them average. They have the hard jobs at the place and aren't paid enough. Some nights they didn't have enough aids to put everyone to bed efficiently. Once a was outside my mother's room and heard an aide bullying her. She was contrite when she saw me. That was the only instance of this that I saw. Don't leave anything of value in the rooms. Leave a few bucks in a good hiding place and it will be gone. I once brought flowers in a Waterford vase, left it in her room, and it was gone the next day. They just looked at me like, why were you so stupid as to bring in that vase, and I guess they were right. Activities are a shining area. The two or three activity girls always had nice personalities and lots of patience. There was some activity all day. They brought in a lot of live music. Good entertainers. They had a man who played 50s oldies and my mother, despite rather advanced dementia got so excited as we did the twist together and she did the limbo. Nice to see her still able to have some happy moments. The three ward heads there during my mother's 2.5 years were all good. I thought they should have spent more time in the office. Cost: Expensive, but not the most expensive. If I could, I would rate the Brystal 3.5 stars and the food 3.5 stars.

My mom moved into the Bristal at Massapequa, and it was the best thing that we could have done. She's doing great. The people are nice, and she's meeting friends. They keep them busy, and the food is great. I can't say one bad thing, and we're happy about it.

My Aunt was a resident at the Bristal at Massapequa from Oct 2014 - May 2017. The facility was fantastic and equally the staff. They were super super attentive to my Aunt. The food, the care and the service were first class. I would absolutely recommend the Bristal for anyone considering placing a loved one there.

I give this place only one star because of its looks. I have personally been in and out of this facility and seen the staff in the white shirts mean and rude to some residents. It is ridiculous the things you hear come out of some of these workers mouths about the people THEY ARE WORKING FOR. As far as management goes they are poorly put into their positions and seems as though they have no hospitality at all. After asking my mother who a certain person was, she said she was an executive director. With many people Coming in and out of this facility you would expect to see a more easy going personality as their executive director but every time I've seen this woman she always looks like she's in a bad mood. This place needs some serious changes.

Provider Response

Since opening our doors over 15 years ago, and with 14 communities in operation, and counting, our mission at The Bristal has never wavered: to create a singular assisted living experience wholly unrivalled in our area. This not only means developing beautifully appointed communities that reflect luxury in residential life, but also to match that lifestyle with extraordinary care of the same demanding caliber. Meeting this pledge requires an exceptionally trained and loving staff as well as a leadership team that is second to none — and both strictly held to the highest orders of excellence in care and service. At The Bristal at Massapequa, it is no different. As in all our communities, we are committed to creating a loving and caring assisted living environment, one that is warm and friendly for all residents. We invest heavily, in fact, in ongoing training for staff members — and, in particular, in sensitivity training, to help us maintain an even deeper understanding and appreciation for the physical and cognitive challenges that may be facing our residents day-to-day. With occupation remaining at or near 100% across our family of communities throughout the tristate area, The Bristal consistently delivers the unparalleled experience that continues to set us apart. In addition to the above, we ask you please to consider this: When it comes to making a choice about an assisted living community, we have found over our more than a decade operating that every resident and family has unique and diverse needs — distinct expectations, priorities, perspectives and experiences — and that some aspects which prove essential for some families are less important to others. This is why we encourage all families who are considering The Bristal to visit us in person, take a tour, ask their own questions, and see for themselves what makes us such a successful and sought after senior care solution in the communities we are privileged to serve.

Don't put your love one here. The place looks great. But once you are there try to find someone to help you. All they care about is money. In six months our price went from $4.400 to $7,200 a month. They charge for everything giving Meds 32$ a day giving a shower 25$ each shower letting them know to come for meals is a charge because it's a higher care. They don't care about anything about how much money you have. They asked my mother if she had a house when she said yes everything started to go up and up. Because they found that she had money. If you Question why they say paid it or give us your 30 days notice. They still owe us money. They give some of it back but not all of what they owe us. And it a lot of work to fight for it. If you go there you will be sorry!????

What we like best about The Bristal Assisted Living at Massapequa is that it is in my mother's neighborhood. The facility offers more living options. There are studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. She was able to get a one-bedroom apartment, and she feels more comfortable in it than in a studio. The facility is beautiful like a fancy resort. As far as getting her acclimated, I'm not thrilled with some of the things, but I think they can improve. The cleanliness is perfect.

Provider Response

Thank you Maureen for taking the time to post a review. We take your input very seriously and would like to know that you and your mother are more than satisfied with her new home. Please give the Executive Director a call and let her know your concerns so we can make sure to address them quickly.

The staff at The Bristal Assisted Living at Massapequa was very helpful, knowledgeable, very informative, and very accommodating. When I visited, they were having a bingo game. We looked at the Bristal at Massapequa, and I think it was the most costly one because it was the newest. It wasn't as friendly as the one we chose, and it was more expensive and a much larger facility. It was nice, clean, and new, and the rooms were nice.

The Bristal at Massapequa was a very nice place -- newer, updated, very classy-looking -- and it looked expensive. They allowed me to eat lunch, and the food was very good. The staff was friendly and well-informed. They led me in the right direction. They knew what to say, and they knew what I wanted. They didn't make me feel slow, and they were very attentive. They have a way of doing security in an anonymous way. They allowed me to walk around, but everywhere I went, someone always would walk up to me.

After my mother's brain injury we realized she could no longer live on her own and she wanted to be independent. We visited many different assisted living facilities before placing her at The Bristal at Massapequa. It was the best decision for her. The staff is amazing, they are caring and supportive. Everyone from the housekeeping and maintenance staff to the medical staff to the dining staff to the hospitality staff to the administration knows my mother and are aware of her needs. Even in difficult situations they are calm and loving. When my mother needed more care due to the deterioration of her mental state, the staff helped her and our family deal with the change. I never would have thought it was possible but the staff in Reflections is even more supportive. The staff keeps my mother active and busy and she is included in all activities. The staff at the Bristal are a Godsend to our family. We know our mother, grandmother and great grandmother is safe and cared for by some extraordinary people.

Remember the line from "Cheers" - everyone knows your name? Well the entire staff at the Massapequa Bristal not only knows everyone's name, but so much more about each resident! The quality of individual care and concern they naturally show each is just amazing. And like a grand hotel, there are wonderful meals, lovely accommodations, beautiful areas to chat and relax, a variety of activities and weekly trips, on staff medical facilities, a Beauty Salon, a cinema, an exercise room, a computer center, a library... I know my friend is well taken care of as she has reached her 90th year. Thank you everyone at the Bristal of Massapequa!

My family moved our mom and dad to The Bristal at Massapequa in Feb 2013 once we realized they were no longer able to maintain a house and neither were fit to drive a car anymore.   The Bristal is a wonderful place, with very friendly and helpful staff members, excellent food and diversified menu at every meal, and loads of activities throughout the day.   Having them at The Bristal provided us with the comfort of knowing that mom and dad were in a good place and eliminated the worry of what became of their living situation prior.   Dad has since passed away but mom is still living at The Bristal and agrees that it's the best place for her now. I would recommend The Bristal to anyone looking to move elderly parents to a place where they will be under excellent care and supervision.

I am a friend or relative of resident

After looking for a independent but supervised lifestyle for my mom we stumbled onto to this gem. Mom was lost after losing my Dad. Not eating correctly and being overwhelmed in a big home. After much coaxing we convinced her into giving the Bristal a try. What a difference! Within six months of arriving at the Bristal Mom is back to a healthy weight. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is open to suggestions from the food committee made up of residents. The activities team has a great schedule from off site trips to in house entertainment. The service crew are so friendly yet respectful, and my Mom's apartment shines. She loves the ladies who come help in the morning. I can't say how relieved I am that Mom is taken care of while still having her independence.

I visited this facility

When we visited The Bristal at Massapequa, we saw people playing games. Everything we ask, the staff were able to answer all of them. The rooms were okay, but it just wouldn’t work for my mother in law. The facility wasn’t set up for blind people and so it would not fit for her since she's legally blind, but it's a good place and some of her friends are there and they like it.

Mom moved into the Bristal after rehab this past March. The staff members were nice and helped to the best of their abilities. There are activities to keep the residents engaged, including a large "movie theater" area in which the residents can watch television or enjoy a snack. The wellness staff is excellent and addresses concerns quickly. Unfortunately my Mom deteriorated to the point that she needed a higher level of care than the Bristal provides, so she recently moved to a skilled nursing facility.

I really liked the Bristal, they have lots of attendants there and the rooms were beautiful. They reminded me of a cruise ship, they have a big common area where you can get coffee and cookies all day, people were socializing, and they were setting up for lunch when I left. It was just really nice. They had a salon, physical therapy and a gym. They organized trips a couple of days a week, and they have buses that took them to shopping malls and several areas of interest. I would move in there myself.

I was very impressed with my visit at The Bristal. It's like a 5-star hotel and it's gorgeous. The staff who assisted me during the tour was very professional and very helpful. She showed us around and she was also very pleasant to talk with. I was very impressed with everything. They had a full calendar of events. They have bingo area, a theatre area, and a fitness gym area. Like I said, I want to stay there. Their dining room is beautiful although I was not able to taste any of the food.

Everything in The Bristal including the rooms was great. I liked the cleanliness of the place and the activities. They had a lot of activities to choose from and it seemed like they were very busy. I liked the outdoor patio on the first level and the outdoor balcony on the second level. They had physical therapy area, which was very spacious. My brother-in-law was in wheeler or a walker and we found out that the exit and entrance was very open and wide. It was accessible and easy to get in to. So, it would be a hassle to get him out of there for the day or any time. The people who work there knew the residents' name and the residents knew them, also. We had a nice experience.

Our family is disappointed with lack of professionalism and organizational skills by the management of the Bristal. There is no tracking or scheduling of resident's needed care and therefore resident is often only attended to when they are called or when they are adequately staffed. We also have concerns with the lack of control over resident's medication and of the expertise needed to dispense medication.

Provider Response

We appreciate and value your feedback greatly. At the Bristal, we utilize all observations as teachable moments for our staff and organization, helping us reinforce what is working well and address any area not satisfying our demanding standards of excellence. We would like to speak with you directly so we can better understand and address the concerns that you describe in your recent post. We take every review seriously, and any isolated issue that we can identify will be swiftly and definitively corrected. Please call our corporate office at 631-580-6420 and you will be directed to Maryellen McKeon, Senior Vice President of Operations.

Thank you again for your helpful note.

Well what can't I say about how great the staff was and how lovely the place was. I am a very picky man and I loved the place. The ladies I met were very kind to me and they allowed me to talk with some of the guys who already live there. I have a apartment now but really like the idea of not having to cook, make my bed or go to grocery store. They have trips to stores if you wanna go. They even go out to restaurants. I really liked the movie theatre, it's like seeing the movie in town. After reviewing my bills it may even be cheaper than what I pay now cause it includes cable and food. I have to talk it over with my kids but I liked what I saw.

I can still remember the first time I visited this facility where my friend's mom was currently confined. There were a lot of great things to commend about the staff, the place itself and the services given to their patients. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staffs and were asked who are we going to visit. I immediately notice how tidy the place was compare to the other facilities that I've been with. The room was really neat and clean, and not just when a visitor is there but it is kept that way everytime. Also, based on what I have observed they were treating their patients with genuine care because my friend's mom was really happy with their service and she was an easy to please person so that's saying something. She was all praise when it comes to the treatment of the staffs and even mentioned that she quite enjoyed her stay.

My tour of the Bristol Assisted Living in Massapequa started with entry into a well decorated spacious lobby, with a pleasant receptionist who was able to provide details of the facility. Just past the lobby was a beauiful dining room where the residents where able to sit and enjoy there meals in a dining room like setting. There was also various sitting rooms and alcoves throughout the building where residents where able to sit and enjoy some alone time to read or relax. The patients rooms where spacious and private. The staff was courteous and professional. There where also postings for outings, movies and crafts. The facility was of the highest standard.
