The rooms were large enough for my mom who had dementia and has since passed. The staff was very accommodating when they could be but they are "DEFINITELY UNDERSTAFFED" which prohibits everyone to get the Quality Care they deserve when they need it. I do not blame the staff as they know what they are doing... but MANAGEMENT need to hire more staff as the current staff is run ragged. I noticed this for the 9 months mom was in there from rehab to the dementia unit. I helped where I could even with a patient or 2. I felt sorry for the staff and aides. Please get more staff before you think about expanding and take care of what you have already. The activities were more than adequate. Air Conditioning would have helped immensely too instead of paving the parking lot.

MY HUSBAND WAS THERE FOR 5 MONTHS AND ALL I DID WAS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CARE, CLEANLINESS AND SERVICE. THE RECEPTIONIST'S THERE WERE GREAT ALWAYS HELPFUL. EMPLOYEES THERE NOT SO. I TRIED TO CALL WHEN THEY WERE NOT INVOLVED IN CARE FOR PATIENTS BUT NOONE CAN ANSWER PHONES OR RETURN PHONE CALLS WHEN LEFT MESSAGES TO CHECK TO SEE HOW MY HUSBAND WAS THAT DAY EVEN THOUGH I CAME EVERYDAY WHEN HE WAS THERE. THEY ALWAYS HAVE EXCUSES WHEN ASKED ABOUT CERTAIN ISSUES. WE PUT HIM THERE BECAUSE I WAS THE FACILITY THAT HAD AN OPEINING. HAVE SINCE MOVED TO A BETTER HOME AND IT IS LIKE NIGHT AND DAY. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY EVER.

My mother was at Cayuga Ridge in Ithaca for only four days while we secured in-home care. Her entire right side was paralyzed and she was very unstable and unbalanced without someone supporting her. On the last day she was there, one of the employees left the room while my mother was sitting on the edge of the bed. This person apparently attempted to keep my mother from falling off the bed by placing a table in front of her. However, the employee neglected to lock the wheels on the table and then left the room. When my mother leaned on the table for support, it rolled out from under her and she fell off the bed. She was unable to catch herself due to her paralysis, and she hit the floor on her right side, headfirst. Her glasses broke and the entire right side of her face was purple with bruising. They discharged her to us that afternoon, claiming that they had done a "neurological assessment" and that the fall had not caused a concussion or any other adverse effects. Five days later, my mother died. It is my firm belief that, while my mother's diagnosis was terminal, the damage caused by the fall (a direct result of Cayuga Ridge's negligence) hastened her decline. Upon returning home, she was incoherent, delirious, excessively agitated to the point of violence, and delusional; all of which were completely out of character for her.

My sister is at this facility at the time of this writing. This facility does not deserve any star rating. She was transferred there from Cayuga Medical to gain back strength in her legs after being hospitalized. She was quickly rushed from the hospital without given any notice, not even given time to put clothes on or shoes just a hospital gown. Stuck in a cab to the rehab center. Then it all begins with chaos immediately. Where to begin. She is put in a isolation room, understandable, but no phone anywhere. Finally pushed and a nurse finally let my sister use her cell phone. Medications that were needed for sleep, no waiting for a plane to come in from Syracuse where they get their meds from. Why? A hospital not far away and nurse said she did not dispense meds at night. What? 1am received meds. Lost clothes that were delivered. Wrote wrong name on the bag. My sister was diagnosed with diabetes. Serving wrong food. No beverage with meals. Needed assistance to restroom. No one shows up for over an hour or did not show up at all. Nurses are not helpful it is like you are imposing on them. Why are you are nurse then?! This facility needs to be closed down and get themselves organized. I see reviews from 2 and 3 years ago posted but only one from a week ago saying similar things. Improvements need to happen immediately. How can a facility be running like this?

I am current resident of this misbegotten facility. As a renal patient I am REQUIRED to have a specific diet. I never get it. I actually have to either order out (expensive) or order shelf stable foods and protein bars off the internet. This is in addition to what I must personally for my rehab stay. In addition the only times I am usually allowed a wash is when I go out 3 times a week for my dialysis treatments, although even that is never certain. I also used to often get my evening meds after 10pm. I finally told the nurses if they could not get them t o .e by 9:30 to not bother. I was moved involuntarily from the rehab floor to the dementia ward. I was told it was the only available room as my reha bass taking longer than expected. Totally their fault. I arrived in July and never got my prosthetic until the end of December. And I never got a "shrinker" for my stump, usually the first thing issued before a prosthetic. All in all, I'd say to stay as far away from this place as you can. I do feel bad for the horribly overworked and understaffed nurses and aides. The management, however, can go rot.

I just waited 1 hour for pain meds, was not given any meals yesterday and I was just told there are no blankets in the closet for patients to use. The nurse told me that she'd try to find some sheets.

I do have mixed reviews. Upper dept staff. They are like a revolving door. Changes all the time. I think the new ones would like to make changes but when they find out they can't do much and how the facility really works they want out. The Nurses and care takers I would say 80% great. They do really care but they need more help not enough workers. It's hard to call and check up on a person in there and get a call back (2nd floor) there is a HUGE difference from the 1st floor to the second. They are less attentive on second floor. My friend fell out of the bed and the mats were not down like supposed to be and he had a huge gash on his head and 2 black eyes. Hospital trip needed. Family has not been informed on 2 occasions about trips he took to the hospital--one was pretty severe sickness. Day to day care is good with a couple hick-ups here and there which I can assume happens. There is more bad stuff that has happened but I think this is enough to keep you informed. It's a low income last resort place. Just keep checking up on your loved one and make sure things are ok.

My dad has dementia and did absolutely no planning for old age. He also never was able to take care of his family due to ptsd from the war. He is forgiven. This was available for a person of no means who has lost his ability to direct his care. I am grateful they are there. Everyone I have spoken with via telephone has been kind, professional, knowledgeable and reassuring. I will follow up on this later. It is a low income facility and works within that scope.

I've been taking care of a friend of mine at Cayuga Ridge. She has to wait over a 1/2 hour or more to go to the bathroom. Most of the time I have to let someone know that she's been waiting. Another time when I arrived her pants were soaked in urine. I immediately let someone know. The reply I received, "she doesn't want her pants changed." Really?? Cayuga Ridge employees would have a resident STAY in urine soaked clothes for hours?? I had them change her, while employees were in the bathroom I thought I should check the seat on her wheelchair to dab up any remaining urine. Oh my, after putting a glove on & grabbed 3 paper towels to pat the foam seat, the seat was drenched. The employees were going to put her back on it after changing her.? Therefore, I took the seat off & gave it to one of the employees explaining how wet the seat while showing them the drenched 3 paper towels together. I was told by this employee the seat would be taken for cleaning. Three weeks later & no seat cushion was EVER replaced. The move from first floor to the residential floor was horrific. Long story short, first floor neglected to tell the second floor that she would be moving. At 4 o'clock we went to her first floor room to check to see if the move happened. All of her things were gone except the assistive toilet support & a few misc items. So, we go to her permanent room. ALL of her belongings were on a large dolly in bags sitting in the middle of her room. I now had to set up her room, put things away & with my own walker go to her first floor room to retrieve the toilet support..... When I inquired what happened I was told the 2nd floor didn't know she was coming. The social worker, who no longer works there told me he inquired after I left him a message for him & he told me what I already found out, they messed up. Since I knew this information, I would not allow my friend to sit in her wheelchair overnight in a room without a bed made & Her items sitting on a large dolly in the middle of her room. These are just the highlights. I would NEVER recommend Cayuga Ridge to anyone. Now the two social workers no longer work there & the executive director left. This is the second executive director that has left since my dear friend was placed there. What does that say about Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home? It's not a home. Some care workers are nice & others have an attitude larger than the state of Texas! They just have a job..... Not caring for people, JUST a job, nor has ANY message I left for her has ever been received by my friend.

A nursing home facility is supposed to stay on top of it's schedules in taking care of their patients/residents but I have found oUT from an "inside source, they are failing. You should NEVER have to wait 3 HOURS past schedule for ANY OF your medications, that is cruel and inhuman! Something needs to be done!!!

I'm a current resident of Cayuga Ridge located in Ithaca, NY. My experience has been mixed with both positive, and negative opinions. First I'd give the aides full professional praise. They have two aides caring for thirty residents, and I know that there are times that they don't take time to stop for bathroom breaks. Their genuine regard for the residents care is noteworthy. Also the dietary department puts a lot of effort into making nutritious and appealing meals. The weaknesses of the facility are the lack of comfortable beds, or clean furnishings for the residents. Without these in place, it does not promote a healthy environment for the residents. I hope to never become a resident here again.

Overall, I would have to say that my experience was positive. I thought that in general, the staff was rather accommodating. The nurses seemed polite and considerate with the residents. There was even a staff member responsible for daily activities to keep the residents engaged. The staff did their job adequately and used the most of what resources they had.The facilities is a little mixed for me. I would say in the end that it is adequate. The building is rather large, but I felt that the interior felt a little rundown. There were some places that were closed off and everything felt old. However, the main areas were still kept fairly tidy and functional, so I thought it wasn't really that much of a deal.I didn't really get to experience all of the amenities, but overall I thought it was decent. There is a very large dining area/activities room on the first floor. It allows for residents to gather and socialize. On individual floors, there are TV rooms as well as a dining area. These places are sparsely decorated but are still functional. The rooms were rather small, but it was large enough to fit a large bed, a TV, and a mini fridge. Most rooms had a window view and could see the outside landscape. In the end, I thought my experience was pleasant. Cayuga Ridge is not a high-scale nursing home. Rather it is more for those with a budget. This is more apparent when visiting the place, but it is important to note that the staff does everything to make things amenable for the residents as well as for the visitors.
