My father is at Taconic Rehabilitation & Nursing at Ulster. It seems very nice. It's clean. The room is also clean and there are dressers there. Each resident has a TV and curtains for privacy. The staff members have been fantastic. They treat my father wonderfully. They are respectful, helpful, and encouraging. There is a full schedule of activities every single day. There's entertainment, they have therapeutic dogs come to visit, and they have music, bingo, and movies. I don't know all of them but there's a whole full schedule every day. For food, there are always different meal options and vegetables. They offer a lot and they're full meals. I think that's all good. I think it's a very high value. My father is getting excellent care.

I believe that I have reasonable expectations for the quality of care at a nursing home especially for a short term stay. Unfortunately for my Mother, Wingate did not live up to even the most minimum standards. She entered Wingate as spry 99 year old, walking constantly (with assistance), eating well, and performing the most basic functions independently. She left Wingate barely able to stand having been left in bed for at least two days, weak from little to no nutrtition even though I provided supplemental snacks, and unable to take care of her bodily functions without assistance. I do wish that Wingate would not accept patients that they are unable to adequately care for. It needs to do better.

I scheduled a visit with a family member and traveled far to visit. I was told at the front desk to "Go Around the Building" to find where I was suppose to meet. NO assistance with finding the place I was suppose to go--and I showed up early and was told that I could bring her food. Got lost ---"TRYING" to find this area--and the fro ant desk staff was busy "gossiping" instead of being helpful. I was only allowed ONE HALF hour to visit. Plus not allowed to order food or even go close to my relative--even tough I had a Neg. Covid Test with results ! Plus they were doing physical therapy in the room and I could not hear what my relative was saying ??? Total inconsideration !! Plus I followed the rules !!

This place is a disgrace. My mother in law was often dirty. Once the bell was pushed she was left of as much as 15 minutes waiting for someone to help her in the bathroom, we were there when this happened. We were not allowed to help her for insurance reasons. Had to actually go out in the hall and stare at the nurses station for someone to help. When covid hit things got much worse. When we were able to see her outside she would come out with filthy clothes and looked like she hadn't showered in days. when she passed her belongings were left outside to be picked up. Most things had to be thrown out. Some things were missing and some th9ings weren't hers. How sad that her last months had to be with people who cared so little. Think twice before putting your loved one here!!!!!! I wish i could give everything a zero

My brother in law was a patient receiving care for a traumatic head injury. He has since been transferred to Helen Hayes as recommended by Wingate. While at Wingate he received the utmost exceptional care. The staff was exceptionally professional and caring. He made terrific improvements while there. Thank you Wingate.
not a safe place to be. Nasty administration.

The staff is friendly but they are short staff all the time. The administration is terrible. The administrator is not friendly. They don't want to hear any problems from the patients. The way he talks to the staff is disrespectful and degrading. I was able to take my mother out of there asap. Bat place, not safe, never again.

My wife recently spent a month and a half at this facility. She has been diagnosed with Parkinson's and I had thought this rehab would improve her mobility. I was horribly wrong. First off the rooms are not cleaned properly which caused her to contract CDIFF which the facilities staff claimed was caused by her anti-biotics she was on. The problem with that is that she wasn't on any. She went home with CDIFF. The staff at best are very good at ignoring the room buzzers and bells. It took sometimes well over an hour to get them into the room. Activities if you are mobile may exist but if you are not as my wife was be prepared to stare at four walls for most of the day. They stated that they get you out of bed early but she sat for 2 hours on her bed waiting for them to get her to the bathroom. Another note of interest is that she was rushed in the bathroom causing a fall and the side note is that she was listed as a 2 person lift but only one person was helping her, 36 hours later after my wife's complaints of headache and pain the in house Dr decides to send her to the ER. This created 2 $1048 dollar ambulance rides, one being covered by our insurance and the ride home not covered. Management personnel were very clearly instructed to not put her in an ambulette as it would not be covered by both myself and daughter but that is exactly what they did. Final note is that I received bills from the in house Dr's for $366 for ? twice a week while she was there. Best part is that it wasn't the Dr's she was seeing it was only the nurses in most cases. If I could rate this place a zero I would. I wonder if they still have the five star banner hanging in the greeting area. If they do it needs to be removed.

My great grandmother was a resident here. First for rehab before being admitted long term. She came here from another facility after developing severe sores. At the previous facility she was drugged in bed all day... Her first day there she was up, dressed, clean, and even had her hair braided! They restored her to her previous level of ability in a few weeks, as well as her awful sores healed. She lived there until she passed peacefully. I saw a staff member recently and they asked about the family. It was absolutely wonderful.

Mother has a shared room at Wingate, and her part of the room was small. She is there for rehab. I thought the staff was very nice.

After my boyfriends mother had bladder cancer and had to have her bladder removed, she ended up with an ileostomy. She needed rehab and went to Wingate in Highland. Let me start off with: This place is HORRIBLE!!! First, one of the nurses was trying to give her another patients meds. She had to ask the nurse what it was, and it wasn't until his mom told the nurse she didn't take those meds, that nurse realized she made a mistake. Had his mom not been alert & oriented she would have taken the meds of another patient. Second, his moms bag had been leaking and was asking for help changing it. She had been ringing the call bell for 4 hours!!!! She kept getting told "We are too busy to change your bag." "We are short staffed." "You need to be patient and wait." THESE NURSES ARE VERY RUDE AND NASTY!!!! It wasn't until my boyfriend and his sister showed up that someone finally came in to change the bag. Third, This happened again and his mom was ringing the bell for help changing the bag when she was told the same thing. "We are short and you need to wait." She called her daughter IN TEARS to tell her this. Her daughter called and spoke to the nurse. After they spoke the nurse went into the room and began yelling at her mom "How dare you call your daughter!" "You need to be patient and wait!" WINGATE YOU DESERVE A ZERO!!! YOUR NURSES ARE HORRID AND HAVE NO COMPASSION FOR ANYONE!!!

Both parents are there now and we're not really happy with how things have turned out. The food is just plain awful!! We've complained about it and even the staff agree and have stated other residents have complained too but so far nothing has been done about it! The laundry service is a joke. Either it takes a long time for the cloths to come back or the wrong articles are returned. Some of the aids are very pleasant and caring others don't even acknowledge that you're there. If you call and leave a message for the head nurse to call you back, they never do. I'm the one who has to call to follow up! They seem short staffed...no real good activities or the ones they do have are you're basic bingo, etc...most of the time the residents are lined up in the hall way in the front just sitting or sleeping there...they look so sad. The only positive thing I have to say is that there are a few good people who really do care about the residents and you can see that by the smile on their faces when they are interacting with them. We're looking to put my parents some place else...this time we'll know the right questions to ask, taste the food, make sure they get daily excerise and to make sure that someone like my dad who can't walk without loosing his balance will be able to get the assistance he needs so he can use his walker and stretch his legs instead of being told "sit down" all the time.

Both of our parents were in Wingate at the same time for a number of weeks for Rehab. Besides the cosmetic issues in the room which were tolerable, what concerned us more was the lack of overall communication and follow up. Both parents left Wingate with medical conditions that developed during their stay. Although these conditions were reported they never showed up in Nursing notes or treated. There were days that beds were not made and over all care was lacking. We were very disappointed in the care given and when we reported the issue to management we were given the "we will check into it" response. No more.

My mom was in rehab for one month at Windgate Ulster, it appeared clean and most aids and nurses were helpful. My mom decided to stay as a long term resident, but was horrified by the conditions of her $14,000 a month room. There were holes in the wall, ripped shade on the window, the curtain surrounding her bed was brittle and fell off the hooks, the door to the nightstand was falling off its hinges and there was bugs in the dresser drawers. We felt for this kind of money she should have a a nice room. The care on the long term floor was without a doubt clueless, arrogant and negligent, never checked her oxygen container because it was empty and just left her in her room. She was never taken to activities, barely had her wet diapers changed and didn't get a chance to ever eat in the main dining room. I would never recommend this institution for anything other than rehab. A word to the staff, if you ever get a paying customer again, be sure to give them the best room, make sure it is clean, and don't put the paying patient into a room with a screamer, you have no business sense and you deserve ZERO star rating
