Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care was out of the city, and behind it was a pecan orchard, and I'm a walker. I walk a couple of miles every day with my dog. They allow animals, so I could keep my dog. I could enjoy walking at Desert Peaks because of what was there, although it was older and had an older appearance to it. And because it was older, I thought it was dim on the inside, and the walls were no longer bright. However, everybody I talked to was very polite, knowledgeable, and willing to assist. I also checked their menu because my wife is a pretty picky eater, and they had well accommodating food. They had alternatives there.

We visited Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. We found out they only had two openings and those openings were studio apartments, which were one-bedroom and bath. It looked like there was plenty of room, except that you have to bring your own furniture. You don't have to, but they encourage it to make the person feel like they're at home. They said they would furnish it for us, but I couldn't find any price for that. We only worked with Amanda. She's the official tour guide. She was very nice, very informative, and could answer any questions we had. They have a nice folder of information that they hand out. You would have to go through that folder and come back if you had questions. Their facilities were clean. The dining room looked good. The place was easy to get to and easy to drive up to, but it needed more color like paintings on the walls. They had a nice garden on the outside, too.

My sister is at Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. I haven't found anything not to like. The people who interact with the patients are very caring and very personable. They treat them with utmost respect, and they do all they can to make them feel that this is their community. The rooms are wonderful. Every room that we saw was completely sanitized, repainted, and redecorated everything before they moved in, so it looks like a brand-new place. They were very helpful because we couldn't get a move or schedule for when my sister was going to move in, so they actually came and picked up her furniture and put it in place. I've had several meals there with her, and the food is restaurant style. It is very good and very nourishing. They have activities all day long. They have a puzzle room. They have people come in and talk to them. I live in Florida and we just came back yesterday. The day before we left, they had a lady musician who came in, and she played the ukulele and sang songs with them. It was really nice. They have scheduled four or five special activities, a couple in the morning, and most of them in the afternoon. Every Friday they have a get-together, and they make it very special. They get everybody together, they have drinks of their choice for them, a party, the whole routine, and then dinner. It's about an hour-and-a-half to two-hour affair, and everybody joins in. They have plenty to do. From what I've seen, it's a very good value.

My wife is in Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. What I've seen of the care that the staff is giving is very good. The facility is quite clean. Her apartment is clean and it's being kept clean. It's good and the hallways and all that stuff are nice. I've been in the dining room, and it looked very good, but I've not used it. My wife is stuck on the bed, and she eats in her room. Communication is good. When I have questions, they respond quite quickly. The staff members are cheerful and talk with my wife. I enjoy talking with them too as far as that goes.

My mother has moved into Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. What's best about them is their staff and just how easy they've been to work with. Another reason we like them is that they will let you put your own furniture in the room and make them the way that you like them. Her room is not a big room by no means, but it's got everything that she needs. We're working on bringing the rest of her stuff over there. So we like that. I've only eaten one meal there, and I have been with my mother for quite a few of her meals there. I think the quality is good. There's not a big variety as far as choices like some of the other places I toured. But my mom is not too picky, so she is going to like something that they serve for sure. For activities, they just had a St. Patrick's Day party with a lot of little prizes they gave out for different things, and they do bingo and crossword puzzles and a couple of other games. The other thing I liked about them is they have a good outdoor patio that's all fenced in. It's really big, and they have a yard with flowers, rose bushes, and that kind of stuff. It's built in a square. All the inside rooms look into another outdoor area where they keep turtles and stuff, so I kind of like those things, too. It's an older place and it's not as snazzy as a few of the others I looked at as far as decoration and stuff. But I'm more concerned about the health care and the staff than the decorations. And in terms of value for money, they're the most reasonable than most that I found.

The people at Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care were very friendly and accommodating. They have a beauty salon for the ladies and haircut services for men. The staff who did the tour was pretty good. The facility was just kind of old and the location was not very good at all. The memory care room was shared with two people and it was very small. So, it was not anything that I would consider for my loved one.

We had my mom at Desert Peaks' assisted living first, then they had to move her to their memory care. So far, I don't have anything to complain about because they've been wonderful. She's been having trouble adjusting. They've had to take her to the hospital several times for infusions, and they've notified me of all instances that happened to her. The staff is wonderful. Communication has been kind of difficult because there's one number. After the first time she went to the hospital, I kept calling to get a hold of the director, and for someone to give me information. My mom went on Saturday night, and Monday I finally got some feedback. Someone answered and told me that it was the director's last day and I didn't realize it. I was a little bit upset about that since I called her all weekend, but she's no longer with the company. The new girl, Jana, who's the wellness director, has been really good at communicating with me. I haven't tried them but they serve nutritional and balanced meals. The facility itself is very homey and clean. I researched several other facilities, and this one was comparable or lower to the rates I found. I'm satisfied with it. They have a salon, but I don't know if it's open again because of the COVID. They do laundry too.

What I like about Desert Peaks was that the area was beautiful. It had a preview of the mountain. I like that if you want to be out, you could enjoy it. It was great. The problem was that it was quite a distance from the doctor's and quite a distance from the cancer center. They were nice people. They called and wanted to make sure they had good follow-through. The apartments were nic and the staff was nice. The place was peaceful. It was out of town so it had a nice ambience. The dining area was nice. I love the patio facility, which was really nice.

We toured Desert Peaks. The grounds were very nice. They had an enclosed indoor turtle garden, which I thought was cute. It seemed like they had activities going on too. That day, they had a birthday party where they had all kinds of decorations, and they had a piano in the activity room. As for the staff, well, I had to wait a long time to get assistance. The reason I didn't choose them is the location: It is way out of the city limits. It is at least a 20-minute drive from the city, so it is very far. And the second reason is that the room is very small.

Desert Peaks was very clean and very well taken care of, and it's one of the facilities that we're going to consider when the time comes. The person who took us on the tour did a very good job. We had lunch, but there weren't any activities going on that day. The food was good, and the dining area was well-kept and clean. They had a library, a game room, outside areas, a rose garden, and a desert tortoise area. However, it's a little out of the way.

I'm very satisfied with Desert Peaks Assisted Living & Memory Care. It has the most home-like appeal for me. My dad is a rancher, and I was looking for something that seemed comfortable; Desert Peaks fits the bill. They're very professional, but not too institutional-like. The food varies. If dad does not care for the food, they offer alternatives, and they make every effort to provide him with something nutritious that he will eat. In the memory care unit, Dad has a semi-private room, which is pretty small. I just don't feel comfortable with him in there, although they have a very nice common area. If they could offer private rooms in the memory care, that would be better. There are only 10 people in their unit, and the bedrooms are in one little hallway. The dining and the living area are easily accessible.

Desert Peaks is older but closer to my house and in a nice, country setting with an Alzheimer’s unit. It wasn’t an ideal tour; the manager had been called out, and maintenance showed me around. I saw a huge room. One of the caregivers was really helpful as was the maintenance man, but maybe they weren’t fully staffed. The dining area is average. I didn’t like the halls and the locked doors we had to go through, so overall, I wasn’t impressed.

Thank you very much for your feedback! It is much appreciated. I am glad to hear that we are neighbors! Yes, this is a wonderful country setting, and we have gardeners living here who are enjoying the spring time planting. I am the new Administrator, and I feel honored to be the leader of this lovely community. During the time you visited, the community was indeed in a leadership transition. I am so sorry to hear that your tour was less than ideal, but happy to hear that our maintenance person and one of our care team members were helpful. We do have an amazing team here. Since you live so close, I would love to invite you to stop by so we can meet and chat, and perhaps share a cup of coffee or iced tea or lunch together. I know how important that first impression is, and I would be grateful for another opportunity to connect with you. Thank you again for caring enough to let us know about your experience.

Dessert Peaks is a very small place. The rooms are extremely small and not very comfortable as far as I could tell. They have small suites with a little living area, a bedroom, a bath, and a tiny kitchen area where you could mainly make coffee or something like that. They also have Alzheimer's care there. They were in the process of redecorating -- they had just sold to another company -- and my impression was it was not very attractive or very comfortable. The location is very comfortable because it's in a little road with trees, and as you know we are in the dessert here, so the surrounding trees are very pleasant. The managing director was the one who took me around, and she was very nice, but I made the decision that this was not the place I want my husband to be.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate hearing from you. Yes Desert Peaks is small. We have only 45 units. For those seeking a small, intimate, family environment with a lot of social engagement in the dining room, on the patios, courtyards, porches, and other common areas with friends and families it is a good fit. Our remodel is coming to a conclusion now, including the remodel of some of our 1 bedroom apartments. We have new flooring, new paint, and new parking lot. We also expanded the Mountain Vistas neighborhood providing more specialized programming for those who have Alzheimer's or other cognitive challenges. The Assisted Living Neighborhood has amazing new flooring in the large dining room, which we use as a dance floor and party room when we have our monthly musical events. I am glad you liked our location! It is such a beautiful country setting, with lots of patios and outdoor space. We even have a Desert Tortoise habitat in one of our courtyards, and we all enjoy the natural habitat here. Please free free to stop by if you are in the neighborhood and see the changes, and join us for an event or a meal. We would love to meet you. Thanks again for taking the time to tell us your impressions. We take all feed back to heart.

My mom is at Desert Peaks. It seems to be OK. My mom has a room by herself right now until they get some more people. However, I think they would probably need more employees. They do have trips on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They would take them for doctor's appointments. They have a lady that does their hair onsite, but she is only there on Mondays. Also you can go in and spend the whole day with your family member. They play bingo and board games, so I think it is alright. The memory care units are locked, and the other ones are not locked, so there are actually two sides to the facility. The facility is very clean, and everyone has been friendly.
