"My sister is happier and much more comfortable here, and the food is better. They also provide a lot more assistance compared to her previous senior community. She's in independent living, but I have care set up for her. They have a 24-hour nursing staff that manages her pills, helps her get dressed in the morning and ready for bed at night, escorts her down to the meal, and so on. They do a really good job keeping an eye out for her. She has a fantastic two-bedroom apartment with a ton of room, a special place for all her special things, like paintings and antiques, and her own patio and little shade tree. Southgate is a wonderful community, and her doctors are local. Shopping and grocery stores are also conveniently located. The staff is excellent and take care of my sister like she's part of family. They're friendly, smiling, patient, and say hello. They have games, arts and crafts, chair exercises, trips to movies, and restaurants. The activity director watches over my sister like a big brother. This place is for people in the early stages of dementia. If you're further along, it's not a locked-in facility and may not be what you're looking for if you need someone at your side constantly."

"I toured Kamper Stevens, and it was a nice place. It had a nice-sized apartment, a nice amount of closet space, and a laundry room on each floor, which I liked. The staff was nice and answered all my questions, and the facility was clean."

"I visited the independent living community of American House Dearborn Heights. The community was friendly, and there was a lot to do. I liked the layout of the independent living, and I liked how they had a choice for a meal plan. I like the layout of the rooms, and I was happy to see a washer and dryer. They also have a full kitchen, which is good. The person who gave the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. I also saw their dining area, and it was spacious and lovely."

"I toured American House Southland with a lady by the name of Colleen. She was very friendly and open to any questions I had. Compared to some of the other places, when you walk in, I feel like I'm home. The staff was very helpful. She took me around the place. I saw an apartment that was empty, and I got to see what the cafeteria looked like. The staff gave me a menu for the month of June to show me what they serve. It's different all the time, and you have a choice of two different entrees. At the other place, they just have one entree, but at American House Southland, they gave you a choice, which I thought was very nice. There is an area where they can go for movies. They have a library if you want to get books. She also mentioned that you can walk around the property, and they are going to have a small gazebo by the pond where the ducks swim. I just felt so much more comfortable there."

"Atria Kinghaven is absolutely a beautiful facility; very nicely decorated and very pretty. They're not that much more expensive than the other places I toured, but their additional services that you pay for were not quite as exclusive. So that made it more expensive. "I have visited American House Westland Venoy. It was a modest place. When we went on the tour with my family, the workers were very kind, and you could tell that the residents were well cared for. The rooms are small, which we expected because it's a more modest place, but the director spent over an hour with us, telling us about all the details and the place. She spent a lot of time with us, and we were impressed with that. They had a lot of activities like playing cards, and games, sometimes they'll have a little music, and they'll have together time. There is quite a variety of activities. The rooms were small, but they were neat and clean, and that's what's important."
