"I was able to see Prince of Peace I. They didn't have many amenities as far as common areas, it was just one little small TV. Although they have TVs in their rooms, it would be good for them to get out of their rooms and be in a common area with other residents. But there's not enough space for that. The staff members and employees were very welcoming, they went over a lot of things and asked a lot of questions about my grandmother, and they spoke about their specialties or their focus. They kind of specialize in dementia, so that was nice to hear. Whenever I call, they answered and were happy to answer any questions I had. They had a van that they use when they need to take the residents to places and stuff like that. But that's the only amenity that I remember them mentioning. They have physical therapy that comes to the house, but I didn't like that they didn't have nurses or a nurse onsite 24 hours. "

"I toured Fran Cares. The facility was very clean. The staff was very brilliant and showed me around. The rooms were clean and had a large bedroom. The only downside that I had with that particular facility, it only had one large bathroom that everyone used."

"Beulah Spring Assisted Living LLC was beautiful. The home was very spacious. It's huge. It had stairlifts going upstairs and stairlifts going down into the basement. The owner was extremely nice. I think the only reason why we didn't go with her was because the other place was closer to my grandfather. It was very clean and nice. It's absolutely amazing, the artwork, the furniture and the TV, the whole setup. The way she has her house laid out, you would think that she had an interior decorator come in and set this whole thing up. The rooms were big. All of the private rooms had queen-sized beds. The bed was a little bigger than a twin bed in the semi-private room. The dining area was nice. She has two kitchens in this house. She has one upstairs and one downstairs. This house is maybe one level down from being a mansion. She turned it into an assisted living. The bedrooms are huge. The living room is big. There are three couches in the living area. The kitchen upstairs or the main floor is big and has a big dining room table. Then she has a kitchen downstairs. They have a front yard and a backyard. They can sit out on the deck. There's plenty of room for family to come and visit and be able to sit and that's upstairs and downstairs. You can have three or four family members visit at the same time and just be in the room or the common areas."

"We really liked Judy Comfort and Care Assisted Living. We loved it because they were very personable and very professional. We enjoyed the visit. The staff was very friendly. It's a family-run business, very personable, and very professional. We saw the rooms. The rooms were good for the level of care. The people were constantly doing activities and not just sitting around. It was very enjoyable. The living atmosphere was very personable. It didn't look like a business or anything. It felt like you were at home where you could feel comfortable."

"My overall tour experience of Sunrise of Alexandria's memory care was positive. The facility was conveniently located, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. My visit was right around when we had a snowstorm so it was kind of inconvenient for them but it did not stop them. They took me through the facility and answered my questions, and I was very pleased with it. I found the rooms to be comfortable, well-thought-out, and well-appointed. A lot of people don't realize the difficulty for aged people to kind of get around and do things and I found that these rooms were geared towards easy access with all their bathrooms and spaces. The staff was very outgoing and friendly. They're willing to answer any questions and I was happy with them. The young lady who was supposed to meet me that day got her car stuck, and so she was running a little late. Another staff member filled in until she was able to show up but I was there in the middle of the snowstorm, too, so I understood it. It would have been easier for them to reschedule because of the snowstorm but they didn't so I thought that was really good of them."

"This is how dementia/elder care should be. My dad, who has dementia of the Alzheimer's type, has been living with me and my wife the past 2 years. He had a very bad experience at a traditional memory care facility prior to living with us, but after 2 years of care my wife and I were in dire need of a vacation and respite care for my dad. We found Tilden House which is much smaller and offers much more personalized care and way better staff/resident ratios than your traditional memory care facility. It feels so much more like being at home because it is an actual home. The staff were also amazing (thank you Wade and Eva!) and took such great care of my dad. After our 2 week vacation, we went to pick up my dad and he had clearly been well taken care of and most importantly, was happy as a clam. When asked if he'd be willing to stay at Tilden House again if we were to take another trip, he said "Sure, I had a good time here. The staff were very nice and make you feel comfortable." but when asked about traditional memory care he says "It was like being in prison." If you have a loved one struggling in a traditional facility, do yourself a favor and check out Tilden. It's the next best thing to home care for your loved ones."

"The residences are kept in fantastic condition! The food is excellent and they offer a variety of options. The staff is great! Cristy and Shari are exceptionally fantastic! They are patient and supportive of not just my family member or those dedicated to them any particular day but they have an amazing rapport for all the clients! I know my loved one is in great care while he is here!"

"I toured the assisted living of Spring Hills Mount Vernon. It was set up differently. They had the chef come out and talk to me. The chef had food and fed me, and it was good. The exercise people were there too with all kinds of things going on. They showed me what was happening there. I think they had beauty and a barbershop, too. It was just expensive. The person who gave the tour was very nice. My family was with me and they said it looked really nice. It was more updated and bigger than the other ones we've seen. I felt good about that place. I went to apply and get my funds and stuff going but I didn't have enough money because they kicked up the price. The pricing wasn't good. If these places would come down a little, they'd be more affordable for a lot more people. "

"My mom was a resident of Benchmark at Alexandria. I liked that it was very new, and everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful. The facility was very clean. It had a sort of hotel-like feel. It's a long but not wide building, so the floor was just this big corridor, and at the end, there was a larger room where you could do stuff. It's not like some other places I might describe as a really big house. It was more like a facility. It was very expensive, but everyone at her level of care was about the same price, or at least there wasn't anyone significantly cheaper in this type of larger facility. The rooms were a decent size, and the layout was easy to understand."

"The Harmony at Waldorf was very nice. The staff was very outgoing and very knowledgeable about the facility. The rooms were very nice, but it's way too far out of the budget at this point. From what I'm used to, it seemed small because I would be moving out of a five-bedroom house into an apartment-type living. The apartment itself was very nice, and it had enough room as far as a one-bedroom apartment went, but I'm used to having more room. The dining room was clean, nice, and spacious. Parking was fairly large. If everybody who lives there drove a car, there wouldn't be enough accommodation for vehicles."

"I toured Russell Residence. The lady was informative, helpful, and very good, and it was a nice house. It has a TV, a single bed, a closet, and a dresser. Some of it was private and some of it was semi-private, a nice room. I didn't smell urine. It's very clean."

"My wife moved to the Independence Court of Hyattsville. They take good care of them. In the morning they help her get dressed and bathe and so forth. Then she goes about her day and she has lunch at a particular time and dinner at a particular time. My wife has told me a number of times how much she loves the food. I tried some of it. The food is good. The rooms are clean. They clean it every day. They come in, gather her clothes, and put the dirty clothes in the hamper. They picked out what she was going to wear, and my wife loved it. The rooms are clean. They have a list of medications, and they make sure that you get that every morning, so everything is good. They have activities going on all day long and sometimes my wife will participate, but sometimes she doesn't feel like it. She just watches TV. They have individual games for them to play crosswords, and things like that to keep them busy. It's a little high, but I guess you get what you pay for."

"My mother moved to Cogir of West End Alexandria's memory care. It's a very beautiful community. The attendance of the nurses is very helpful, and the support staff is very supportive. The director is very welcoming and very friendly. The buck stops with him. He takes action immediately if you need something. I haven't had a complaint, but in my experience of trying to get what my mother needed, I can see that he's very receptive and quick to implement what it was that she needed. The staff he gave me to deal with was also very receptive and very professional. I'm very pleased with them. My mother's room is good. I've seen the food and the menu, and they look very healthy. They have activity after activity. Every hour, they're changing and doing something with the people. They take field trips, art sessions, and music sessions. They do let the residents watch TV, but it's not a situation where they're sitting in front of the TV all day. When they watch TV, it's usually a movie in the evening. They don't have the time to watch TV during the day because they're moving them around to different activities."
