I liked many things about Meth Wick Health Center. I was born and raised in that neighborhood as a child. It also had many people from the Church that I served, and it was a full care. It was near to all the other things that we were used to, like workout center, groceries and all. There was a wide variety of rooms.
We were there the other day, and they welcomed us to all their activities. They had musical programs. They had interesting meal arrangements. There were several communities there or different housing sections. You could cook your own or you could go with the community lunch or dinner, which means there was a good cross section of people that you meet each time you were there.

There wasn't much Aunt Thelma liked about living in Methwick. Her apartment was small. It had a sliding glass door to a balcony, but the door leaked water when it rained and cold air during the winter. The unit was located in a long hallway with many others, and there were snoopy neighbors who liked to prowl the halls just waiting for someone to come out of their door so that they could either complain or question them endlessly. Aunt Thelma did her own cooking in her apartment; however, she was also required to pay for meals provided by the center every day. The meals were tasteless, so Aunt Thelma didn't want to eat them. On holidays, however, the meals were catered and much better, so sometimes we would go to dinner with her. Those were the only times she made the trek to the building where the dining hall was located. It would have been a bad walk in inclement weather, and she had to walk uphill to get there which was a difficulty for her. Although she only ate the meals 5 or 6 times year while paying for complete meal service, as guests we still had to pay extra for our meals. Prices just kept going up, so Aunt Thelma finally elected to move into a regular apartment complex and take care of herself. She is 89 years old and doing much better on her own.

We know many people at Meth-Wick. They gave us a tour of two of their places in the assisted living, and we enjoyed them. However, we are so far down on the waiting list, it will be a couple of years before we go in there. They have a variety of very talented staff members, specialists, Alzheimer's exercises, and food preparations. It seems to be the right place for us. It is surrounded by woods and lawns, so you know you're in a safe place. The location is close to everything, like our grocery stores and fitness centers. The community is clean.
