"We've been to a couple of places where no one was in the lobby or in the lounge, but here in Oakleaf Village a lot of people were interacting, and it is not something I crave, but to me there is a difference in feel, and the apartments I looked at were fine. The food here is terrible. They could find someone who knows what he or she is doing to be in charge of the kitchen and the meals. "

"Holiday Alexis Gardens is nice. I like that there isn't a lot of walking. I'm having trouble with walking, so that's nice. I also like the way it is put together. It seemed like everything was close together, and there wasn't much walking. The restaurant was really nice. They gave us a meal. We met some of the people. There was a 102-year-old lady who was there, and that was interesting. The people were friendly. They had a spiritual room, a library, and arts and crafts, so they kept people busy. They had people taking care of the residents and stuff like that, which I like. Everything was really nice. The staff and my sister got along really good. The staff was very knowledgeable, and she knew everybody. Everybody we walked past would say hi and stuff like that. She made you feel comfortable. She gave us a package of three cookies to take home, so that was really good. They have a refrigerator and a sink in the apartment. Anything else you would have to bring yourself. The one thing I didn't like about them is that there was no visitor parking."

"The residents get a menu every week to let them know what they're going to have, and they have restaurant dining. They will come up and ask them if they want an alternative instead of what they're having. If they don't like what they're having, they can go ahead and fill that in. They've got cookouts for the residents, bonfires in the summertime for them, they can go outside and play shuffleboard, they can go and play pool there, have a wine tasting, or go out on different outings with the community. There's so many things. The lady that gave the tour was amazing. She answered all our questions and concerns and everything. They had a beautiful dining area. We didn't try any other food, but the hospitality and the cleanliness was amazing. If they don't want to sit in a room and watch their own TV, and they want to come out and mingle, they can come out. There's a lot of stuff there for them to do, and they're not going to feel like they're going to be alone. I would even put my own mom there. That's how confident I am."

"We toured Swan Creek Retirement Village. I just went to see the facilities altogether and I was thinking of assisted living, but my husband has gotten to the point now where he needs skilled care, and they do that as well. They were fantastic. If I had to choose one, it would be them, because not only are they close to my home, but their people were so above and beyond caring and wonderful. Their facilities were lovely, clean, and bright. I was only doing a visit and they couldn't do enough to give you all the information you could possibly need. The assisted living facilities were bright and roomy, and not cluttered. There's a lot of staff, and they're very attentive to the people that are there. I was very pleased with them. They had all the facilities that my husband needs. They also offer respite and skilled care. They had everything that I was looking for."

"We were very impressed with the facility. It was very clean and very friendly, and it did meet our needs. We know several people who are there already; some from Church and just friends that we've known from the community. The only setback was that it was a lot more expensive. Security was very good, and safety appeared to be good too. We've had distant family members in there, and the food is good -- I've eaten there. They certainly took good care of the people right up until the end of their lives. I'd give them a four only because their prices were too high. "

"Reynolds Senior Village was a manufactured home community. It was handicapped-accessible. It was more like a rented home. It was nice because the rent was not that expensive, but they didn't have a nurse on call. It had stairs. The only good thing about it was that it was an open community where you could stand outside and have your own space. I spoke to the staff several times over the phone, and when I came in, she knew exactly who I was. She showed me around, and she was accommodating. No meals are included. The facility was clean."

"My mother lives in The Woodlands at Sunset House. She is in a two-bedroom, two-bath home with fireplace and cathedral ceilings. It is gorgeous. It's 2100 square feet and way more than she needs. They provide breakfast and dinner. There's a hairdresser on site while they bring in bookmobiles and local banks. They provide transportation to grocery stores every week and to and from doctor's appointments. My mother loves the food. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. There is a low turnover, with the exception of the young people that work in the dining room in the evenings since a lot of them are college students. The core staff is the same all the time. It is the most expensive in our community, but they do a good job. They have an activities director and they have movies twice a week, they bring in musicians, hold a cocktail hour every other Friday night, and trips to local restaurants or the theater. Pets are allowed, as many as you would like, as long as you are capable of taking care of them."

"I'm happy with Kingston Residence of Sylvania so far. I haven't had any issues. The nurse practitioners help out quite a bit, and the nurses are on top of the list. They help me when I need it. They have plenty of activities available for the residents. One day, there were a couple of guys playing bagpipes. There's also someone who comes in to sing. They have movies and bingo too."

"My grandmother was a resident at Heritage in 2008. She had been in 3, or 4 other homes before she arrived here. This was, by far, the best facility she was in. The staff was always friendly, the doctor's cared, the food was good, etc. My grandmother had dementia and often forgot the nurses. They were always patient and respective. She had her own room, which was extremely roomy (under the circumstances) and clean. She was a resident when she passed away and did an excellent job of showing sympathy and respect. I would highly recommend Heritage. "

"My sister decided to stay at Luther Haus. They have activities and church on Sundays. They have bingo a couple of days a week, and they have parties occasionally. They get together and have dinners. They have a place for puzzles. They have a library and they also hold meetings there. The facility is nice and clean, and it's out in the country. It has a big yard with a nice gazebo. My sister has a 1-bedroom apartment and it is a decent size. They have washers and dryers and an ironing board in a nice laundry room. The building is older, but it is well-kept. They have a social coordinator there. The staff is very friendly. My sister was hospitalized for 5 weeks and they called and checked on her to see how she was doing, just to let her know that they do care."

"We chose to have Mom at The Lakes of Sylvania because she was there for rehab, so the transition from there to assisted living was easy for her as she was familiar with the staff and the caregivers. The facility allowed us to come in and bring the things that would fit into her room. The employees are very nice. The PT department was excellent. Now that she's in the assisted living, they do crafts, bingo games, and a lot of activities with the family. Every Friday, they have a little happy hour where they get drinks and have music, so they have a fairly active schedule. My mom likes the food. It is awesome. They have a family night very frequently for families to come in, as well as brunches and things where families eat with the residents. It's a fairly new facility compared to the others in the area and athough it could be a little cleaner, it's set up very well. The assisted living rooms are roomy. They have a microwave, a small sink, and a small refrigerator so they can have some of their own things. They are very nice with a great big shower room in it."

"My parents moved into Sunset Village seven months ago. Everything is going really well, and they're very happy. The staff is good, right there when my parents need help. The food is very good. They have housekeeping come in once a week to clean the room. It's a nice size, and when you walk in there's a nice living room, a kitchenette, a little refrigerator, and a microwave, but no stove. They have one bedroom, a bathroom, and it's big enough for the two of them. They have different sizes of rooms there. They're in assisted living, but my dad needs a lot of help. They have bingo, music groups come in, they take trips out to stores, they go to a restaurant once a month, they went to a casino this month, and this summer they will have outdoor concerts come to the facility. They have lots of activities if the individuals want to take advantage of it."

"Marian Place is near the river and there's a church next door to it. It's very nice and it's a friendly place. The studio was a little too small. For me, it would have been like living in a closet. The person who lives next door to the room that I was interested in went to lunch with me, and we walked around and saw the laundry facilities and that sort of thing. Other than the fact that I was kind of tired that day and it was a little too much walking for me, it was a good place to be. There was a dining room, and it was pretty much taking a tray, collecting your food, and then finding a table. The food was fine. I don't remember quite anymore what we had, but I walk with a walker and they did volunteer a person to carry my tray if I needed it. There were a couple of ladies who were knitting and I think it was some sort of a class. They have computer facilities there that you can use. The lady that we dealt with in the office was ready to retire, and I think she has since retired, but she was very helpful and very friendly. It was clean and tidy and not hard to get around in. With the walkers, sometimes you have to walk around things, but there were no major obstacles for me to navigate or anything. it's probably a little bit expensive for me if I want something more than just a studio."
