"I visited countless facilities prior to choosing Gardens of Statesville for my mom. Although it was a hard decision to place mom in an Assisted Living Facility, myself along with my family decided I could no longer provide the care she needed at home mainly for her own safety. The moment I walked into the Gardens a calm came over me. After meeting with the team, (Jason, Mechelle, Cyndi, Holly) touring amazingly clean, secure facility, meeting residents and hearing their opinions and happiness in their voices, learning about the activities, enjoying the sampling of the food I knew it would be perfect! The rooms are spacious, we were even able to bring mom’s furniture so it feels like home, not institutional. The pandemic has of course put a damper on visitation, activities but the team makes every effort to engage residents in daily activities. They follow all guidelines to keep residents and themselves safe. For that I am grateful. They keep me informed via email or phone calls with anything to do with Mom or The Gardens in general. We receive a Monthly Newsletter keeping us informed on activities as well and menu which has so many options available. They even have an iPad for the team to bring to mom and FaceTime family during these tough times! "Oak Park Retirement is independent living, and we were very, very impressed with that. It was recommended to us by another facility. We liked the rooms. They were big and roomy. It just seemed like a pleasant place to live. The cleanliness was good. The staff was very, very friendly, very nice, and answered all of our questions."

"We placed dad at a Brookdale living facility, and it is lovely. They have all kinds of care, and he is in independent living. They have apartments and villas. They provide housekeeping once a week. It is an older facility; that is why they still have the woods and the lake which is quite nice. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and supportive. Right now he is receiving physical therapy there which is really nice. They are able to do that right there in the facility. It is very social, and all the residents seem happy and comfortable. The food is fine, and the dining area is very nice. They have a place where you can have takeout as well as going to the dining room. He prefers to do the takeout. "

"We like Providence Meadows Gracious Retirement Living. It's fairly new. We saw it being built because we live in that neighborhood. It's got a nice arrangement, except for a couple of things that we did not like. They didn't have a laundry facility in the apartment. You had to go down the hall to a laundry room and do your laundry. The apartments were nice. The person who met us and took us around was an assistant marketing manager, and he did a great job. He spent a lot of time with us, showed us three different apartments, and answered all our questions. It was a good experience. The only thing we were not happy about was that they only had independent living. They did not have assisted living or memory care there, so you couldn't stay there if your situation changed. You don't have to sign a lease, though. You just have to give a 30-day notice, and you can leave. They had a big, beautiful dining room, and the residents were all going to the dining room and waiting for their meal. It's very well kept and well run. Everybody seemed happy there."

"My friend was a resident of Williams Place Gracious Retirement Living. I was there all day and the people all seemed happy. There was no depressing atmosphere there. I ate lunch with her, and it was very good. They had a menu where you could pick what you wanted. I didn't have that much interaction with the staff, but I did talk to a couple of them. They had a gym, a library, a movie theater, and walking trails. Everything was clean. They go shopping and to different plays in theaters and stuff like that."

"The Pines provide three meals a day and they have some sort of meal plan for the seniors. It's a progressive community, they offer everything down to full nursing facilities. The person that gave us the tour seemed rushed. It was really nice and the rooms were twice as big as the other place we visited. The only thing we didn't like about it was that you have to pay for an expensive buy-in. They showed us a studio apartment which was very nice and roomy, and a one-bedroom which I loved."

"Symphony Park - Luxury Independent Senior Living Resort is top of the line. There isn't anything that I didn't like about it. It is nice. The staff is a very diverse group. The place is immaculate. The atmosphere of it was like a breath of fresh air. It was nice. The rooms were a little larger than most. It felt spacious. They have two restaurants in that building, and they were nice and top-of-the-line."

"My husband's parents previously lived at Bailey's Glen in Cornelius. The residents at Bailey's Glen are very active and it's a smaller community of retirees. The smaller size of the community provides more attention by staff and employees. Also, some of the residents are in their mid to late 50's, and have plenty of energy. Bailey's Glen accepts residents beginning at age 55, which is unusual for a retirement community since most begin accepting residents at 65+. Living quarters are either apartments (some have patios) or cottages. The community itself has lots of land "“ over 100 acres. Homes and apartments are nicely designed with sufficient space, rooms and appliances. Food is tasty with good variety on the menus. After much consideration, my in-laws decided to move to a retirement community in Charlotte itself, not Cornelius. This happened after my sister-in-law was relocated to downtown Charlotte for a new job. My in-laws are now living closer to their children and grandkids. We can happily recommend Bailey's Glen. It was a positive experience during the time my in-laws stayed there. "

"I visited The Glens, and I put my application in there. Everybody that I met was very nice. It was bright and cheery. It was in a wonderful location and in a very nice neighborhood. It was close to shopping. There were villas and duplexes which were spacious. This was very satisfactory because it was pleasing and they would take care of all of your maintenance for you. "

"We chose it for my mother because of its location. The place is very clean. The staff seemed very friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. "

"I love the place. The people at the office and the residents were excellent. They inspire me the way it stood out as far as cleanliness, it's excellent. "

"I live in Charlotte Spring, and it is a nice place. It is quiet and clean. It is like an apartment with two bedrooms -- just what I need. It is not too big, not too small. It is just right. There are activities available if I choose to go to them. If they want to live here and they have apartments available, I would recommend it to others and they might as well move in. "

"I've been at Taylor Glen for over ten years now. We have a hundred acres, and it's beautifully landscaped. It has an indoor pool, a library, and a post office. We have a bank even that comes one day a week. We have a dining room and then a cafe. We have entertainment that comes in. We have also assisted living, a memory care and even total health care at the other end of the campus, but it's all connected. It's all within the same building. We don't have to go outside to go to those. The biggest minus and it's probably true everywhere, they've had trouble keeping enough employees to take care of everything. Other than that, I feel like we're sort of one big family. People are very friendly and we make good friends. We enjoy eating with different people at dinner. We've just finally got enough housekeepers. They clean the bathrooms and kitchen and just lightly go over the rest of the apartment, but at least they come every week and they finally have enough help there. We had maintenance coming over the last few days. We've had our air-conditioning unit went out. They just hired a new chef and a sous-chef, and they're doing a very nice job. I think we're having more help than we had before. The person that's over the whole independent living here just moved up from another position and she's very personable and tries her best to do things that need correcting. We're very happy to have her. They are getting ready to build probably through the next year some villas and independent houses. They have something brand new for memory. My biggest concern with these people coming in more than the space for them to come down and have all the same things we have now would be enough help to take care of these new people. There's a lot of staff that are really good, but some that are not as good. The management staff is a five-star. The new manager is really trying her best to turn things around. I'm on the food committee and they list things of what we have to say to improve. The food could be a little better but it's much better than it has been in the past. My blood work has been very good and I used to have high cholesterol and my blood pressure fluctuates and all that has improved in the last year. I feel like our food has gotten much better than it was. I'm pretty pleased with it now. You can have your own garden. We have a woodworking shop and crafts rooms. We have an auditorium and a chapel. There's a lot of good things in the facility here. We have a washer and dryer in our room. We don't have to go down the hall to do our clothes and that's a big plus to me. We have quite a few people that come and some that they pay and some that volunteer. They have crafts that they make things for the people down in healthcare. They have a van where they take people out once a week to shop at the grocery store and out eating. They go get apples or take strawberries or just a good variety of things they do on those outings. This is like a buy-in thing. You pay big bucks upfront, but then you sign a contract with them and they agree to take care of you until you die whether you run out of money or not. To me, it's pretty expensive, but in today's value, seeing other facilities like this, we're probably right in line there or maybe less than some."
