"I went toured here. That would have been ideal, but they didn't have any two-bedroom openings. They're excellent. I like the two bedrooms, two baths and it was just very nice. The staff during the tour was lovely. It was only one person, but we were exposed to others that worked there that were very nice. The common spaces were very nice and very relaxing. I didn't see any activities, but they were listed."

"Independence Village was beautiful inside. It had high ceilings and decorations. They had a lot of activities there. I had gone there several times, and they had musicians and comedians. They always had open house. It was for my sister, but when it's time for me to go, that would be the place I would like. However, it was expensive. "

"I went to visit a friend of mine at Emeritus at Brighton. He has a little studio apartment and it’s a good size. It has a little kitchenette with refrigerator; it's nice old place really. He is very happy there. This is a big improvement for him and he enjoyed it. He has been there probably about a year now. The staff that I saw seemed to be very, very good. They provide transportation for the residents that takes them to the grocery store. They also take them out to lunch to different areas every couple of weeks. I haven’t tried the food, but he says he's happy with it. They have a menu and I saw it and it's very good. "

"We've visited the Lockwood of Fenton. It just seemed clean and friendly. They have a little shop, like a Dollar Store shop. My mother is on a waiting list, and I put a $50 deposit down. They said it's a year's waiting list. The only thing holding us out on that place, which is for low income, is that we need additional income even though it's low income. Nice apartment. The positive side is the building itself, the surroundings, and also the fact that they have on-site nursing help. They don't farm it out to a company. They had a lot of things going on, like bingo and cards. The staff goes over the packet that they give you. It was pretty clear cut but not rushed. "

"We visited here, and that was our second choice, but there was no room available. It's an excellent community. The staff member took us on a tour of the place, told us everything they have, and was very open, and very friendly."

"My mother-in-law is in Lockwood of Waterford. It is very clean. The nursing staff and the medical team are very helpful. The administration is great to work with and address your needs. They have movie night, game night, and craft night. The dining area is great. The food is reasonable. "

"Rolling Hills Retirement Community is a brand new place, and it's beautiful. It's not fully occupied. They have everything you would want. They have three meals a day. It's beautifully appointed and my friend is very happy there. It was very, very nice. I just don't think it's worth $50,000 a year. It's $4200 a month with three meals, housekeeping, and beautifully appointed rooms with a full kitchen, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances. I have nothing against it. It's just I couldn't give up my condo and go to that. It's 55 and up, so this is for people who are independent. I only met two people, and they were very kind and very warm. What I liked is they have a lady who lives there permanently, so there's always someone there at night. They were going to start a home health care company on the premise, so if you would need physical therapy or if you need someone to stay with you, you can hire them. It's a very, very well-organized company. I ate and the food was very good. They have maybe 50 to 60 people now and they hope to have it filled by the end of the year. It's very well appointed. They have staff there 24 hours a day. They have a maintenance man on call if you need somebody. They have a chef and he comes to the table and asks you if the food is good. It's all cafeteria-style, so you have to go up and get your food. They will have a sit-down later on for the main meal. I can't complain about anything. They have a room to watch movies. You have individual leather chairs and they have meetings in that room about the facility. It's beautiful. It's very, very nice, but it's not for me."

"We had come across All Seasons of West Bloomfield through a web search for an independent living facility and decided to check this place out for my parents. It is brand new. They are not yet up and running, but the facility is gorgeous. Their rooms are very nice. The staff that we dealt with so for are all very helpful and knowledgeable. I like both the people and the facility. We have already decided to put my parents here, although they won't have anybody moving in until the 5th of August. "

"I did a full tour at Symphony of Linden. I did talk to a lady and she gave me a pamphlet and everything. She showed me a couple of different rooms. That was in the main hall itself. The other ones outside were basically assisted living, and I told her we weren't really looking for that because she's been diagnosed with dementia, and I noticed it's getting worse. To me, it was kind of rushed. It was nice. The people were nice. I like how it's decorated. It's not just a plain Jane hallway or anything. I would recommend it. I know my landlord's been in there for rehab and he really liked it. It's clean and very friendly. We did pass by a dining area and it was very clean. We weren't there for a meal or anything like that."

"Magnolia by the Lakes seemed like a perfectly good place. The apartment that I saw was very nice. It seemed very clean and relatively new. The staff who gave me the tour was very friendly and very personable. He was a very nice guy. He seemed to know what he was doing, and seemed familiar with this. They had a small pool. It looked like they had a little mini-golf course. They had a nice eating area and a nice lounge area where people could go to. They didn't take me into the kitchen itself, but I saw the dining area. They seemed to have a nice enough dining place where people eat. I didn't have the opportunity to actually try the food. The place seemed very clean."

"I wasn't happy with Lockwood of Lyon because they've reduced the quantity and quality of the meals. I spoke with the administrator and with the head chef, and she has agreed to review the exact meals that I was complaining about and she also assured me that she will investigate the quality of the meats that we are getting. It's rather nice because it's set way back off the road on a large parcel of land, so we have a curving drive into the development. It's a very large apartment complex. We are on the very back corner, southwest, and we face small woods. It's nice because we have a lot of wildlife. Last night we had two deer in the yard, this morning, several rabbits, and a ton of birds. It's really like being out in the country. They have a rather small staff. There are two ladies who are cleaners, and they clean extensively long hallways. They also do minimal cleaning in all the rooms, if you want, or you can pass on the cleaning. The hallways are not carpeted. They are simulated wood on plastic tiles, so that we don't have the problem of the nasty carpets that some of the places are showing bad wear. We have a 12-passenger van that will take you shopping around the area and also to the banking center of the community every week. Once or twice a month, we do either a men's group or a women's group to a restaurant or even the mixed group. Everything is here in this community, so it's very nice even if you don't have a vehicle."

"I chose Oakhaven Manor because it's close to where I lived before, it's close to the church I'm gonna go to, it's across the street to deliver food, and it's also close to my doctor. The food is pretty good, and the staff is very nice and very helpful. The facility is in good shape and they totally redo the rooms between occupancy. They would have new paint, new carpets, everything. There's an arts and crafts room, a library, a card or game room, and a gym. There are quite a few things available, but they're not available to us now because of the COVID restrictions. We have a really terrific activity director, and she does bingo for us once a week, she hands out crossword puzzles, arts and crafts, and things to do in your room. She's always busy coming up with something. We're also doing an exercise program in our room."

"The lady that toured me at Elmhaven Manor in Pontiac, her name's Paige, was very nice. It's independent livng and the place was very clean. It did have an institution feel when you walk in. I didn't like the fact that it was kind of small. To me, it reminded me of an institution. They're very accommodating though. My ex-husband would prefer a smoking room and he would prefer a shower and they have that. The problem with Elm Haven is they only provide dinner and you have to pay $270 a month to eat dinner there, which I felt was extremely high, even though their prices were very, very good. You have to almost pay for everything extra too. They have a beauty salon and barbershop and laundry rooms. They have a convenience store that I thought was nice. If you'd need milk or bread, you just go down there and get it. The rooms were nice too. The dining room was elegant and it was big and spacious."
