"Allerton House is very good. I remember it was my second choice. The surroundings are very clean, very nice, and updated. I know they have activities, but I didn't see anything going on. The people are extremely nice. The atmosphere impressed me. The experience was very pleasant. "

"My sister is at Sophia Snow Place. It's very comfortable and well-furnished. The food is good, and I like that. I don't think they have enough staffing though. With regard to activities, the only thing she attends is the poetry group. She doesn't care to be engaged in anything else. Her room is spacious. She has a double bed in there. She has a recliner and another chair, and she's able to hang all the paintings that she loves. The place is clean, too."

"My brother is in here. The staff is extraordinary. They are very, very welcoming, informed, and consistently gracious. It's probably not the most up-to-date and beautiful facility, but it certainly met our needs. I have not had their food, but my loved one is happy with the food. I know of their activities just from what I've seen on their calendar, but my brother is very happy with the level of activities that they provide. It seems to be the most reasonable place financially and with lots of amenities. I would highly recommend it for somebody who is without a car. There's a lot of really great opportunities within a five or ten-minute walk of the place that someone could get to. There's also a shuttle that takes people to other places."

"I visited Allerton House at Central Park. The gentleman who showed us everything was very nice. He gave a lot of facts and answered all my questions. He showed us two different apartments. One was a one-bedroom, and the other was like a studio. They were pretty good sized and handicapped appropriate. The staff seemed very nice. I ended up at the wrong building, so I didn't even really have an appointment, and that was nice of him to take time out. Everything was very clean. There were no smells. We parked right in front of the building. Everybody seemed friendly. They were setting up tables because they were having a big party. They had some outdoor space."

"Maplewood at Weston is a beautiful assisted living facility. Overall, I have been very happy that I moved my parents there. Many of the staff members are exceptional, including the Executive Director who is warm, welcoming, and extremely responsive. My parents have a two-bedroom apartment that overlooks the river, and enjoy delicious meals 3 x a day. We have been especially thrilled that my non-ambulatory, 96-year-old father is swimming several times a week in the beautiful, on-site pool with help from the resident fitness director, who is a trained physical therapist. I have mixed reviews of the caregiving staff - some are excellent, but others would benefit from closer supervision. "

"My parents will be moving to The Residences at Wingate. It's a relatively new place at only three years old. It has a very nice, clean feeling, a lot of lights, very open, and on the smaller side. I think there are 48 rooms. The staff was very positive. We met the executive director first and then the person who helps new people, and they were both excellent. We had lunch in the dining room and the staff was very friendly and nice. Everybody is doing a very good job. They have a nice dining room. I'm a chef, so I am very particular about food, but it's very well cooked. Everything was good. "

"I saw Cornerstone of Weymouth. It's $6,500 a month, and you have to pay a one-time $4,500 community fee, but that's a lot of money. The tour was wonderful, and the staff was wonderful. It's great, and it's an hour away from my children. Their units are all apartments, and they have a cafe and a restaurant. They have a lot of regular amenities, too. It was wonderful. They couldn't have been any better, but for two people, you're talking about $6500 a month."

"The only reason we didn't pick The Current South Shore is that the apartment was on the fifth floor, and the porch was way bigger. It didn't have a cover, so we were wondering how we were going to shovel it and where do you put the snow when you're five stories up. The Current South Shore was actually really nice. It was brand new. It was six months old. The apartment that they showed us was a studio with a huge porch, and that was for independent living. I would give it a 3 only because right beside it was an automotive shop, and you could smell the oil if you went outside. Also, if my dad needed more help, he would lose his apartment, and he would get a smaller place. The staff member who gave the tour was wonderful, but the other person was awful. We gave them money first and then changed our mind because the other person was so bad. The place is beautiful, but one of their problems is the way the driveway is. When you come in, there's not much room. It's the way it's designed."

"I liked Orchard Cove the best because of the quality of its facilities and the nature of the residents’ population. Lots of facilities -- gym, physical therapy, swimming pool, activities, lectures, concerts, multiple dining rooms; very nice. "

"The Woods at Merrimack was a beautiful place. The facility was clean, relatively new, and very nice. I loved it. They offer three meals a day and I had some of the food. I met a few people there and everyone was so friendly, and the first thing they'd say is the food is so good. They have an afternoon cocktail hour where you can get two drinks and they serve warm appetizers and it was delicious. Everyone seemed happy and cordial and willing to help. I would go there in a heartbeat if I could afford it. I like the idea that you don't have to spend like $30,000 to buy in, but the monthly rent that goes up there was about 7% a month and it was around $5000 a month minimum. The next year, it goes up 7% of what your new rent is. Your monthly rent goes up quite a bit and that was the deterrent for us."

"I toured Allerton House at Proprietors Green. It was exquisite. The staff were very friendly. They had everything that I could be interested in. They had a theater, they had a pub, they had transportation, and they had a lovely dining room. It's extremely clean. It was in a very equipped location for everything."

"St. Theresa's House is a very nice place with a bright, clean feeling. I like it there. They have meals and people that come to the house to do your washing and stuff like that. They have arts and crafts, Keno, and Bingo. The staff is very good so far. It is only 32 apartments, and it is pretty well full up. "
