"We chose American House Cedarlake because it is close to my house. The facility looks very nice and clean, and the residents seem very happy there. The apartments are fantastic, really beautiful, very well-maintained, and very clean. Everything is very good. They do arts and crafts, have bingo, all kinds of board games, and card games. The staff is great. They have a calendar of activities with something going on every day. The dining area is very clean and my mom never complained about the food. I am just a little disappointed that it’s all privately paid; it’s costing me $5,000 a month for my mom to stay there. Nothing is covered by her Medicare or Medicaid. "

"We loved Covenant Living at the Holmstad. It was lovely. I would love to have my mom go there. Everybody knew each other. The residents knew the staff and said hi to them as we walked through the place. The 2-bedroom was phenomenal. It would fit my mother's needs completely. It would have been just perfect. They had so many amenities and so many things that they do like going out shopping and all these things. It's a fun and caring place for people that have limited ways to get around and that needed just a little bit of care."

"I went to GreenFields in Geneva for a tour over two years ago. It was very clean and the apartments were very nice, but it was not really a place that I would be interested in because the hallways reminded me too much of a hotel. The staff was very good, very personable, and answered all of my questions. We talked to someone about the activities too. I remember that they had a beauty shop for the hair, and a big laundry room. I didn't really find anything negative there. We also had a meal there, and the food was really good, very well-prepared, and the dining room was also very nice."

"I'm a resident of StoryPoint Romeoville. I like everything. I'm really impressed with the dining. The dining is super but it's also what I have a complaint about. For instance, I don't know who takes care of their inventory, but this morning they ran out of creamer for the coffee and they ran out of the jelly for your toast. They have a sweet roll you can have as a dessert with your breakfast, and they ran out of those. Every day, they're running out of something. A couple of days ago, they ran out of bananas. I think somebody should be in charge of inventory and when you get down to x, you should reorder. The food is excellent, and there's a good variety. They have two stations, and they have a nurse in each one. I'll go out there sometimes, and there's none of them. I always think there should be one nurse on duty because what if somebody calls or having a heart attack? There's nobody manning the nurse's station. That's my other complaint, but overall, I'm impressed. It's run pretty smoothly except for those items I just mentioned. I've got a cooking stove, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher in the kitchen, and they work fine. I don't use them much, being an assisted living. I have a couple of frozen pizzas in the freezer. They have a lot of activities. They've got card games, Bridge, nickel, left, right, center and bingo about four times a week, which is very good. It always has a good turnout. Every Friday, they show movies which are good. I wish they had a bigger selection on Fridays, but there's one I particularly want to see, it's called Pearl Harbor, and they said they can't because they don't subscribe to whatever it's on. They've got sitting areas, and they've got a flower garden that people can sit by. In fact, we've got one lady that is hatching butterflies in the creamery and when they hatch and they're ready to be released, they release them in the garden, which is very nice. They're very good, cooperative and caring for the people that are here."

"My sister and myself decided to move our mother in to a assisted living home, after she had suffered a fall which was quite scary since she lived alone after our fathers passing two years ago. Both of us living in the Chicago area we wanted a facility in between both us, so we could visit on the weekends. We looked around a few places and then we found Timbers of Shorewood. My sister and I visited the first time together to check it out. The staff was very informative, helpful, and caring for the residents. The logging was nice and seemd right for a elderly person. A week later we then visited with our mother who was against the whole idea to begin with began to feel comfortable at Shorewoods. She met some of the nurses and staff and really seemed to be comfortable, which was my sister and mines main concern. We moved her in 3 weeks later, and this was about two years ago. Overall Timbers of Shorewood is a great place for our mother I feel very grateful to the staff at Shorewoods. "

"The rooms are very nice although small but the staff is very friendly and helpful. The facility is nicely decorated and clean and having personally had dinner there, the menu selections are nice and the food is tasty. "

"Everyone at Lexington Square of Lombard was very nice and helpful. It was very clean, which I liked. I think they were taking great precautions for Covid. It seems like they had a lot of great amenities for the residents. We got a tour of a communal area where they could sit and watch movies. We got a tour of the hair salon as well as other common spaces like a cafe. I thought it was a nice space for the folks that live there. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom and they seemed very nice and well kept. Nothing is worn out or outdated, so that was nice to see. It's just at this point, the financial cost of it is kind of what's stopping us. I didn't see any activity. We went at 6:00 at night, so it was a little bit later, but I've heard they do movie nights and different games. At some point, they did outings and events. I don't know how that is being affected with Covid, but I know they had things like that. The dining area was very nice, very spacious, and very clean. No one was in there because maybe we were even there later than 6. Dinner was already over at that point and I don't know how many people are allowed in there with Covid and all of that, but it seemed very clean. It almost looked like a restaurant, which was kind of nice."

"My wife is now in the Franciscan Village. We chose this place because it's run by a Catholic order of nuns. They have a beautiful chapel inside the building, they have a priest 24-7, and they have deacons that come and give communion. So that was a big part of our decision. They have a game room and every day they offer people to come and do crosswords, bingo, and art projects. They do stuff typical to most nursing homes, especially at the rehab or memory care level. The nurses are great though they're always short of aides, I found that to be the same in many places. The food is tolerable, it's acceptable. Sometimes it's good but sometimes I'd go out to get my wife a cheeseburger, sometimes their food comes in cold. The bathroom is tiny but everything else is pretty good. I'm paying $10,400 a month basic plus laundry service, plus incontinence supplies. I think it's very, very expensive for these things but all nursing homes are way too expensive."

"It is a very nice place, but it is a buy-in. I'm not interested in that. I am very impressed with it though. The rooms are adequate. They have activities, but they are not anywhere near what I have outside the community. They have a very small library and a craft room. The food is excellent."

"My tour experience at Marian Village was very positive. We were able to look at several different layouts, and we went over to the cottages. The interesting thing about them is that as people are moving out of their units, they are modernizing them. They're renovating them with new flooring and they're moving from carpeting to hardwood floors. It is just extensive upgrading as these units are turned over, which means you're getting a fully renovated new unit. It's beautiful. It's very clean. I didn't see anything that would set any alarms. The staff member who toured me around was very friendly and very receptive to questions about whatever. She was very open and friendly. There's a lot going on. There was a morning social group meeting in one of their lounges. There was an exercise class going on in the gym. They were setting up to play cards. When we went over to the cottages there was no one in there, but there's a nice recreation room. The cottages had patios. A lot of the units in the newer building had balconies. It's a very open area. There's a paved walking path. There's not much around it. It's really out in the country. We looked at the dining area, but they brought us into their bistro, and we had a complimentary lunch. It was excellent. It was very, very good. We ate in the bistro. "

"I can't begin to put into words the gratitude and appreciation I and my family all have for the wonderful care my mother receives. You know and do things that are special to her from smiles to rereading letters from family to sharing words of care and a helping hand during meals. The list could go on. You have become part of our family "

"We visited The Roosevelt at Salt Creek's independent living and as far as I'm concerned, the community had only one drawback and that is that they've just started and will be undergoing some renovation for a while. I was concerned that that could be a disturbance and would make it less attractive and comfortable. You don't know for sure, but that's been my experience with those kinds of things. Other than that, I would give them a high rating in just about everything, including their quarters. I liked their rooms a little bit better than any of the other places we saw. Their staff was quite friendly and knowledgeable. The layout was good and they had outdoor areas too. Their eating arrangement looked good. It looked a little bit more complicated to me than some of the other places, but it still looks like a very nice eating arrangement. The residents also have very good interaction with their staff."

"My dad moved from a 4-bedroom house to a studio apartment here 2 1/2 years ago. He loves it. There are people to interact with, supervised exercise, a beautiful dining room with good food, where you order your meal as you would in a restaurant. He has a full kitchen (he likes to bake) and a huge closet - plenty of room he says. The staff are very friendly and helpful and everything is clean and updated. They have church services, wii bowling, bingo, trips on the bus. Communication with families is very good. As I said, Dad loves it and we (the children) feel very comfortable with him there."
