My grandfather was a resident at Mt Vernon Countryside Manor. He was very afraid to go into the nursing home but after about a week of being there, he was praising the staff.The nursing home did not have that urine smell that is usually present as soon as you walk in the door. Instead it smelled like cleaning supplies. That was my first pleasant surprise. Another surprise when I turned from the lobby down a hallway. There were no laundry carts, trash cans, nothing in the hallway except an occasional chair. That was very nice. I have been places where there were so many things in the hallway, you couldn't walk a straight line. The room was extremely clean. There were two people in the room and everything was put away and there was even a shelf attached to the wall that flowers and photos could be without taking up lower space. The nursing staff were all very friendly and came right away when the button was pressed. Accompanying my grandfather to the cafeteria was nice and many of the staff spoke to us as we passed. They were not too busy to stop briefly. The food smelled very good and must have been since my grandfather ate everything he was offered and was able to have a second helping of vegetables and desert.All-in-all, I believe my grandfather's stay was as pleasant as one could be.
