"I was very pleased with Parkway Estates. It was very clean and spacious. They're very quick to update the carpet if there are any stains whatsoever. They spend a lot of time cleaning it, they have housekeeping once a week. They also do their laundry for them if they want. They have units that you can step into, if she needs additional care later, where they have 24-hour a day nursing care seven days a week, and three meals a day. So, as her condition gets worse, we have the option to have additional care. I have met with Angie several times, and she has been very accommodating and kind; she's a good listener. She addressed all my sister's questions and took all the time that we needed. She's been very supportive. Their dining area was in excellent condition. The rooms were spacious with a walk-in closet, a full kitchen, and there's a door that leads out onto a patio because they can have their own private patio. They regularly do activities. They're taking anyone who wants to go to Rendleman Orchards, and as the peaches come in they'd have peach cobbler and peach ice cream. A lot of the seniors like to do that, so they have regular activities."

"My friend was at Fifth Season at Radcliffe Street. She has since passed away. What I liked most about it was the fact that there were nice little apartments in there for one person, plus more other people there that you could talk to because I tend to get lonely. There are people I could talk with and they're closer to my own age. Plus, they cooked for me, so I didn't have to do that myself. But I still had the ability to have something in my little apartment. I didn't see a whole lot of anything that I didn't like. That would be one of the places I would consider going into. They have a beauty salon that comes in and does the hair and stuff for them. They do their laundry. They help with room cleaning if we need that. They have community meals. If you have a car, you go anywhere you want to. You didn't have to stay confined to the facility. My friend seemed happy at the time. She had people she could talk to. Sometimes they had activities that she liked to be in with, but not always. She seemed pretty comfortable there. There's a lot of space in their dining area. It's a nice big area. They could do meals in there and they also do activities in there. It's a nice building, but the inside could use a little paint on the apartment doors and stuff because it's an older facility. "

"I would go with my girlfriend to visit her grandmother at her housing in the assisted living facility. The staff was relatively nice, some more then others. Some of the staff would joke and talk with you, others would act as if you didnt exist. My girlfriends grandmother never had any complaints about the place or any of the staff. The facility seemed to be treating her grandma really good.The only slight complaint she had is that she got bored a lot. We visited her grandmother several times and each time it seemed like a different staff team was working. The place was kept up and clean and didnt smell strange in any way. Her grandmothers room wasnt the biggest, but it had the basics and was easy to get around in. I wouldnt mind having to go back her place anytime. All together, the place was pretty comfortable, nice and most of all, my girlfriends grandmother was happy there. "

"My mom has moved into The Voyage Senior Living Marion North, and she's absolutely thrilled. The staff are awesome and very helpful. The first few days she was there, they came and checked on her every two hours. They're still reminding her every day of what time meals are because she's got dementia and she forgets. They're really great. I've been really pleased with their service. They're really responsive when I call and talk to them. My mom doesn't need memory care yet. She's in a one-bedroom apartment. It has a kitchenette, a nice bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a big window in her living room, and a big window in her bedroom. All their rooms are in a circular fashion, so there's a big courtyard in the middle, so her room looks into the courtyard. The common dining area is great. It's right next to the front entry. Not only do they have a big dining area, but they have a seating area right there with a TV, a fireplace, and the kitchen is right next to it. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Everybody seems to really like each other. The facility is not huge, there's only about 27 residents, but they all seem to enjoy getting together. They have a lot of activities for them. They play bingo and they have crafts once a week. My mom goes up and eats meals with them, but she has not yet participated in activities. She hasn't been there quite long enough. She likes the food. They have a daily special. If they are not happy with the daily special, they have other options. It's kind of served restaurant style. They fill out their menu by the day so they know what they are, and they can pick what they want to eat that day. Actually, they pick for the whole week what they want to eat. They'll take my mom to the store. They have somebody who comes in once a week and does a church service. They have an activities director. They have somebody come in periodically, like once a month or twice a month, and just put on like a mini concert where somebody comes in and sings for the residents. They just do quite a lot for the residents."

"My mother is a new resident. Moving mom into an assisted living environment was extremely difficult. What became more difficult was not understanding the system. The staff at River to River, and more specifically Hurricane Creek were extremely professional and very helpful at not only the navigation but almost as if extending our family. "My dad has moved into Sunshine Gardens Assisted Living. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They've made it a lot easier on us, the family. The room is very nice, I couldn't ask for anything better for an assisted living facility. Everything's nice, he gets housekeeping once a week. They're doing his laundry. The dining area is very nice. He's a very picky eater, but whatever they serve him, he tends to eat. I was with him for a couple of meals, and it was very nice because they have a person on staff that cooks all homemade meals. They have several activities, but he's not involved in those right now, he doesn't participate in any."

"Because it was a brand new facility, I have absolutely complaints about the building. It was always clean, smelled nicely (which is rare in homes like this, from my experience), everything worked, etc. The best part was that the staff actually seemed to care about the residents living there. They would tell stories of conversations with him, games they'd play, or how he liked the ladies. Often times if he wasn't in his room, we could easily ask any staff member walking by if they'd seen him, and they'd point us in his direction. Seeing them pay attention to what was going on around them and that it wasn't just a job made me feel comfortable having a family member staying there. They were always very accommodating, too. One year for his birthday, I was actually able to coordinate a surprise visit with him during an outing they were having. They brought me onto the bus to visit and have ice cream with him and everything. I'm so glad it wasn't a nursing home and not everything was locked down constantly, because I was able to still create memories with him via them without worrying about his safety constantly. "

"My Father & I visited her sister who's currently in Heritage Woods but he has not looked at it for himself. My Aunt likes the place very much. As far as I know she's in and out in the hospital quite frequently when she was home alone. Since she's been there it helped with that situation because she wasn't living alone anymore. She's been staying in this facility for over a year now. I can say she's very much treated very well with all the staff. "

"I went to The Landings at Reed Station Crossing. They were just very caring. You could tell they were proud of the jobs that they were doing. They introduced us to any staff that we ran across, and you ran across a lot of them there. You saw people in the dining room eating. They go above and beyond to try to meet the needs that you're looking for, for your parents, or for any person that's going to live there. That's probably my first choice when this happens to me. I will be going to The Landings. The staff during the tour was excellent. The food preparation looked wonderful, their meals, and the way they do things. You can order off the menu. You don't have to take the special of the day. It's just so big, and my parents really can't walk long distances. They're on oxygen, so I'm really concerned about that. That's what's holding me off right now, is the lack of having a room close to the area that they're required to eat in. Food is not delivered to the rooms. They want them to come to the dining room. I did not try their food, but everything looked good. We talked to some of the residents sitting around, asking them how they were enjoying their food. They were as friendly as could be. They all said they were enjoying everything, and there were different kinds of food. They had a beautiful cake sitting out there for dessert. It looked really good. They have large bathrooms. They have them with a bathtub or a shower. There's plenty of room to go around. Since I'm doing both parents, you could get two twin beds in a one-bedroom. They have one and two-bedrooms. It's like being in a home. They have a small kitchen and a living room that is a decent size. They have a huge walk-in closet in the bedroom. You bring your own furniture in. They have respite where they charge $135 dollars a day. If I want to drop my parents off for a trial run, it's fully furnished. All I have to do is have them bring their clothes with them. They could move them into an apartment to see how they liked it. I think she said that's up to 90 days. You could keep them in that. That's something I'm looking at, maybe trying to see how they can do. It's a good thing to have to be able to try it out. You also see what your parents need, like if I thought they don't have dementia, so I still think they're assisted living. If I put them in the respite, the nurses and the staff that work there can tell me they need this a little bit more, and that helps me feel more comfortable."

"We loved it they treated my aunt like family. She was depressed and would not eat but the staff there made sure that she ate at meal times. They also kept her company when no one could visit here. They are a grade a facility. "

"Big Muddy River Assisted Living is a top-notch facility. The building is attractive and well-maintained. During the many visits I made, I always observed staff to be polite and caring to the residents. They were attentive to the residents' needs, prompt to respond when help was needed, professional, and courteous. The individual apartments are nicely appointed, and spacious. The staff arranges activities, chapel services, etc. which really helps maintain a positive atmosphere in the facility. Moving from one's home to an assisted living facility can be difficult for residents, but the staff at Big Muddy made this transition much easier. Social interaction is encouraged, but privacy is always respected. The atmosphere in the dining area is pleasant and social. The meals served are appetizing and meet the individual needs of the residents. Because of its location, visits to doctors, dentists, and medical specialists are just a short drive away. For residents who do not have friends or family nearby to assist with special tasks, volunteers are often available to help out. I would recommend this facility highly for its standard of care. The atmosphere is warm and caring, allowing those who need assistance to live there with dignity. "

"Harrisburg Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections Memory Care was very clean. The patients looked at the staff lovingly and content. It was very well run and organized for the needs of a person with memory issues. The staff was very nice, very helpful, and very knowledgeable about what they do there. They have a room specifically for anxiety with lighting, fabrics, textures, and buttons. They have an outside area where they can garden, a common area with a big screen TV, calming aquarium, very nice dining area, in-house fresh fruit and vegetables, and meals were cooked there daily. It's very clean and beautiful."

"Prairie Living at Chautauqua and its people were very nice. It's an older facility, and the room was not as big as the others, but it's nicely arranged and had windows. The dining area was very nice and kept up well. The people there seemed to really like it. They had a library, a beauty shop, and a little game room, but the disadvantage was it's got two floors and it seemed to be quite a bit of walking for my grandmother."
