Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
Our residents are primarily from Carbondale, Carterville, Herrin, Marion, and the surrounding Southern Illinois area. Some have relocated from other parts of the country to be near their Southern Illinois family members. The average age is 87, and they enjoy activities including live entertainment, bingo, special group game experiences to challenge their minds, and occasional outings within the greater community. We celebrate all of the major holidays, and have monthly family nights with residents, family members, staff, and visitor participation.
What programs or activities does Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin offer to enrich residents' well-being?
In addition to activities already mentioned, residents engage each other in stimulating group activities such as Jeopardy, family feud, trivia contests, sing-a-longs, chair exercise, etc. We are most proud that staff and residents welcome new residents with open arms upon admission. We are also sensitive to those residents who engage in a minimum number of activities, and never invite or remind someone over and over who is uncomfortable to participate.
What transportation services does Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin offer to assisted living residents?
We have a small vehicle that provides transportation for fun outings as well as medical appointments, shopping trips and salon appointments. Many residents prefer our in-house salon as well.
What makes the chef or dining program at Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Our dietary manager is Elijah Waldron, who is well known in the Southern Illinois area, and who has been in this role since we opened in September, 2012. We offer a delicious 3 hot meals/day comfort food menu.
What safety features or security measures does Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin offer to assisted living residents?
We are located in a very secure area of other medical resources. All residents are able to lock their doors, and have pull cords in their living rooms and bedrooms, as well as wear pendants to call 24/7 care staff to respond to their care needs.
How does Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Our management and care staff engage family members on an all day/every day basis, are available 24/7 for consultation and response to concerns. Families will find that our small size, 50 apartments, allows for all staff to get to know all residents very well.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin during daytime and nighttime hours?
We schedule 2 care staff per shift 24/7, which is usually for a resident census of approximately 50-55. We have a full time RN, and back up RN who provide care in-house as well as 24/7 on call coverage.
If Villas of Holly Brook - Herrin accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We accept dogs and cats as long as the resident can care for the pet and the pet does not disturb others. There is a one-time $500 fee for a pet owner. There is plenty of yard/field surrounding the community so that a pet can easily be walked/cared for.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
Staff receive on-going in-service training on a monthly basis as outlined by Meridian Senior Living, our management company, one of the top leaders in the country for senior care. Staff are CPR and First Aid trained as required, at least one CPR certified staff on duty at all times.
