I like the location of Brookdale Pocatello. The views are nice. I like the tour director. She was very cordial. The community spaces are very friendly. I did not like the carpets on the floor. We absolutely wouldn't do that. Also, they have a lip on the shower so it's not a walk-in shower. I talked to her about that and said "How are they going to get into the shower?" She said, "Well, they just step over it." But there are people that can't step over. She said, "They would transfer them from a wheelchair to a chair in the shower and go over that lip." So I don't know why they didn't put walk-in showers in that facility. The structure is fine. People were playing the piano. People were singing and a group setting. The atmosphere was very friendly.

We chose the Brookdale Pocatello for my dad because it was bright and clean, and the people were very helpful. The staff is very conscious of his care and extra care, and they seem to be working well with his doctor. I haven't had the food, but my mom is with my dad, and they seem to enjoy it. They do have church services that he attends, they have music, people come in and play music and sing, and they have outings. They also take them to their doctor visits or the store, so they have a lot of activities. My dad is busy in his room, he does woodworking and he's putting together little trivets, and they've allowed him to bring his wood in. He's pretty happy that way. They have a courtyard, a salon, and they have a garden when it's warm enough to garden. I would say that the cost is a little steep.

The staff at Brookdale Pocatello has been wonderful, and very attentive, showed us around, and even brought lunch over for my mother-in-law and father-in-law. She answered all my questions and told me things I might not have known about or things that I was concerned about. The food was very good, but it was not like in a 5-star restaurant. They had a salon, linen services, a great get-together room, a place to play games, and a piano in the big room where the residents gathered and sang when we were there.

Brookdale Pocatello was a larger facility. I think they're somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 residents, and it's a little more institutional, not as homey feeling. Each resident had a private room and a private bath. The rooms were very nice, very bright, nice size, and very airy, but it just didn't have that homey feel to it because of the long hallways and multiple wings. The staff was super friendly. I met with the director and she escorted me through the facility. I spent over an hour with her and she was very good about answering questions and introducing me to several different members of the staff, including people from the maintenance, CNAs, laundry services, housekeeping, the medical director, and their marketing activity director. The rooms had beautiful views of the mountains. The amenities were a little lacking though. They have a dining room that also doubles as the activities room. It's more linoleum floor and they have to move the tables out of the way to have an activity. It's not a dedicated activity room. They have a nice sitting room with couches and a fireplace, but it seemed a little small for the number of residents that they had. I was able to witness an exercise activity involving 10 to 12 residents. They were doing some activities with light weights and dumbbells and looked appropriate for the age of the residents.

I wasn't impressed with my visit at Brookdale Pocatello. They had no ability to adapt to my diet and that turned me away. I didn't really care for their cafeteria set up. I saw one room and it was huge, but that's got to be their more expensive option. The staff was very friendly and they welcomed me. They even had a sign up for my tour. It was pretty nice, and the person who gave the tour was also really nice; I think she's the best thing about the place. The room they showed me is twice the size as the one I have now.

We like Brookdale Pocatello. It's nice, and I like that people could move in their furniture and make it their own and have it the way they like it. It had one central eating and gathering area and hallways that go in different directions. They also have an outdoor patio. My father-in-law has been living there since October. They have some issues but for the most part, they're really good. The staff is great and my father-in-law says the food is good. It's very expensive, though.

The people in Brookdale Pocatello seemed to be really friendly. The room we selected was a good one; it was nice. I saw the dining room and it was very clean, nice and neat, and tidy. They also provide nonstop, all day long activities. The community provides a ride to the seniors' appointments and they also have activities outside. The person who assisted us was very friendly, courteous, and helpful.

Brookdale seemed very nice, and the room they showed was nice. It seemed good but too large for my mother. My mother has more needs than they could provide and needs closer supervision. However, it seemed clean and pleasant.

My dad’s apartment at Brookdale Pocatello is really nice. It is large with a real nice bathroom, and a large closet. They provided the refrigerator, microwave, and furniture. There’s also a small room like a little closet where his dirty clothes go in separate from his other stuff. The facility is really clean. It is a really nice place. The staff are excellent. They’d bend over backwards to help accommodate problems dad may have. They have bingo. Everyday, there’s something going on. They have exercise, and other social activities. The food is excellent. You have two entres. If you don’t like pork chop, you can have spaghetti and meatballs. If you still don’t like that, they will fix you something else. They have food 24/7. If you want sandwich at any time, they will get it for you. They have a van which takes dad to his doctors’ appointments. Twice a week, they take the residents out to shopping.

The one that I like is Emeritus at Highland Hills. Even though they tell me it is an older facility, it looks new and well-kept. In both places that we looked at, the staff was very fine and helpful, but I liked the condition of this facility. It was right across the street from my mother's church, and they hold church services there. That wasn't the key factor, but I think that it was a nice, clean facility that met what she told me was her requirement: she wants to be able to look out over the city. The rooms were spacious -- not overly large -- but for my mom when she goes there, if she goes there, I'd rather she doesn't have a lot of room to wander. She wanted a room with a separate bathroom, and they had both the kind that was almost like a studio, but the bathroom was just off of it a little bit, and we liked their one-bedroom. The staff was very helpful and very pleasant to talk with. They had quite a few activities. I listened to them and made a mental note that they have a lot of things to do, and it looked like it would be fun. My mother is not social, she is not one that would be participating with groups and things, and she would just sit and be in a little tabby hole, and not get out a lot other than for meals which I kind of like the idea that she has to leave the room for meals because she would sit there the whole time if she didn't.

Emeritus at Highland Hills was great. They were just farther away from my house. The facility was really nice. It was a little bit of a bigger place. Their rooms were a little bit bigger too. I like the layout. I thought it was kind of nice. I like the whole thing. I like the staff the best. The staff seemed to be a really, really nice people. They took a lot of time and showed me a lot of things. I really appreciate what they did. I think they did a great job at following up with us. They were good up there.
