"I have been bringing my therapy dog to visit with the resident of Addorolata Villa for several years. The facilities, while not the most modern, are spotless and immaculate. Many of the staff have been there for decades and I am always impressed by the kind and thoughtful care they give their residents. Much of the staff knows the residents (and their relatives) by name. The staff-to-patient ratio is excellent.For the patients who take comfort in religion, there are daily church services. There is also a computer lab and classes of all types are offered. There are numerous planned activities such as games, card and movie screenings as well. Addorolata also allows and encourages visits from therapy animals, which is a favorite of the residents as no pets are allowed and so many of these guests miss having an animal companion.The residents always have help available, be it for shopping, cleaning or other errands, and there are skilled nurses available at all times on-site.The grounds are beautiful in a sleepy Chicago suburb and there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities year-round. "

"My 81 year old father has been there for the past 13 months and our family couldn't be happier. The staff and amenities are excellent, the food and meal choices are great and there is a ton of activities throughout the day to keep my dad busy and interact with many other residents at Sedgebrook. "I visited my grandmother at Three Crowns Park, and I love the facility. It has all the different amenities. The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable. Most of the staff are friendly. They also have a lot of activities offered for her. They take the residents to parks, and they have music in the evening, so those are good. "

"The rooms, activities, and food at Franciscan Village seem fine. The staff seems to take a little while to become familiar with what a resident’s needs are. I was expecting them to be a lot quicker as far as knowing what my mom’s condition is and how they can help her. We just went to the facility yesterday and had a big meeting with their other department heads, and they seem to be doing a lot better now. They seem responsive to our needs and concerns.   Sometimes it seems like the staff is a little late on the night shift.  She usually needs help in the early morning hours and they are kind of on the short staff side. They have church service every day, and they have all the usual games and activities like card games and bingo. They have plenty of things to keep the residents active. The property and the location are perfect and the grounds are beautiful. The food is great. She has not had any complaints about it. "

"I have briefly visited other nursing homes and assisted living facilities and I think this is one of the best. My mother visits almost every day, though, and I know that's one way to make sure that your relatives are well taken care of...The staff is always friendly and willing to make accommodations in the residents' schedules for visitors. For all residents, both those on the 8th floor (mainly dementia patients, some rehab) and on the lower floors (mainly in their own apartments with mini-kitchens), there are daily activities. For those who are mobile, there are frequent outings. Book club, story groups, bingo, exercise, ice cream socials...there's also a beautiful roof deck and indoor sitting area on the top floor with many couches and large windows overlooking Lake Michigan. Most residents dine together and food seems decent downstairs from what I've seen. The food on the 8th floor is pretty basic cafeteria style food, not so good. "

"The Village at Victory Lakes was clean. Things weren’t chaotic or anything. They had a good program, and they had a daily menu of services. If you got worse or something, then you’ll have more assisted-living, and things like that. What I didn’t like about it was the fact that you would have to buy-in. Say, if I wanted a studio; I will have to pay $141,000 or whatever it was. I’d get 90-percent back, but still there’s that buy-in along with the monthly fee. There are recreational facilities, exercise facilities, and group activities like trips. They have a bus to get off the grounds, churches, doctors, and things like that. "

"We went to Victorian Village. The staff were very nice, answered our questions and they would call back. The rooms were very nice and clean and they were big enough for what we need."

"Windsor provides a friendly atmosphere for most residents, although some have found the cliques hard to break into. I'm glad my in-laws are there. "

"The Garlands of Barrington is very nice, but for my husband and I, the entrance fee is very high. The food is absolutely wonderful. We also saw an apartment that was on the first floor that has a patio. I like this a lot because I'd like to put flowers out there. I really think that The Garlands of Barrington is a Cadillac or Rolls Royce of retirement living. There are plenty of activities. It's really a wonderful place."

"At Beacon Hill, the staff is very nice and very helpful. They have a tremendous amount of things for the people to do inside and outside of the building. They have concerts inside there. The food is great. They have an indoor pool. I liked that they are very friendly. I liked that there is versatility and a lot of things to do. The place is kept up very well. It is clean, neat, and well organized. "

"Everybody seemed very nice at Central Baptist. We ended up spending a lot of time talking to the residents. The rooms are very small but adequate. The dining area was clean, and the tables were nicely set. My aunt is on the waiting list for this place. "

"I thought the Covenant Village was a small one, but it's a building that is connected from one building to the other because they have skilled nursing, they have memory care, and it impressed me because the people were not segregated. They can interact with each other in the big dining hall and order food if they want to, or they can also make their own food. There were also small apartments like a home or the independent living, but some of their independent living residents hire a private CNA to come for a couple of hours to tidy up things. It was beautiful. They have a huge library, a salon, and an exercise room. That is probably because they have a rehab center too. Their buildings were connected with a canopy, and they use the middle part as a park, which is a very nice plan because they have an outlet for getting out. Some of the people in the independent living can do their own laundry if they want, or they can ask someone else to get it done for them, but with an additional fee. I was actually overwhelmed by the system and what I saw. It was beautiful, and they have like a restaurant where the assisted people would like to come in, have coffee, and be served just like when they used to do it by themselves, which made me feel great. I thought, "Oh my goodness, I never thought that there is a place like this." It was real and beautiful. I told my mom that this was one of the two places she would be going to if that time would come. "

"My husband and I moved into Oak Trace last March, and we felt warmly welcomed by the residents and staff. The time has flown. We love the grounds. Walking around, we have seen their beauty as the seasons changed. It has been strange not being responsible for getting dinner, but we love the food and got used to selecting our dinner from a variety of choices. We feel very good about how well-managed Oak Trace is. We saw this in the organization for flu shots and now in the organization for our COVID vaccine shots. There has been strict observance of rules and reporting during the pandemic. After our recent snow storm, the roads and walks were cleared, and then salted very promptly. We feel if we have a problem with our living situation, the staff will try to help us solve it. Some of our favorite places are the library, the Grounds and Grains Shop, and the dining room. They are easy places to make new acquaintances. We have found many individuals here who are friendly and interesting people with a variety of life stories, interests, and talents. We feel lucky to be at Oak Trace! "
