Continuing Care Retirement Communities Communities in Skokie, IL

"I checked out the assisted living section of Concord Place in Northlake, and it was a cheery place. The room was small, but there were so many activities there. The swimming pool and workout places are there. I ate a meal there, and the food was very good, and the service was excellent. The interaction I had with the staff couldn't have been any better. The people were very, very nice and welcoming. The only thing that was a downside to me was the location. It was located in a very heavily populated area. I would prefer something farther out, but that's the only downside I had about the place."

"My husband and I moved here over three years ago and have never regretted it! We had previously downsized to a condo in Lincolnshire, so when the need to make the change to an Independent Living community arose, Sedgebrook quickly became our Number #1 choice. It has the feel of living in a neighborhood, not just a single apartment building. The campus is large, with plenty of outdoor space for strolling the grounds, sitting by the lake or pond, a community garden, and more. A big draw for us was the availability of 24/7 Emergency services and a full-service Medical Center onsite. Having Radford Green on campus also became a convenience when my husband needed rehab services following hospitalizations. We are at the young end of the age spectrum here, and have become friends with many other residents of all ages. The apartments are light-filled and come in many different sizes and configurations. The variety of activities is impressive. You can become as involved as you wish, or not, but you will be sure to find something of interest. We have felt very safe living here during the Pandemic. The staff has gone above and beyond the norm to provide our meals and adjust services and activities to meet our needs. As life slowly returns to normal, we are looking forward to continuing our daily lives at Sedgebrook for many more years to come."

"My mom has been placed here. It is an independent living facility, but they also have assisted living and full care. They even have a lockdown section, but my mom is on the independent side right now with her own apartment. She can come and go as she pleases, but they have a necklace pendant that she can press if she either gets lost or gets hurt on one of their trails. There's a ton of activities, and they take her off-site as well, if she wants to go, but they have a lot of stuff on-site. They have a fitness center. They also have drama and games, like bingo. One of the things that she found the most helpful and she really loved is they have game night, where they do either a family feud or password to speed the residents' minds at work. It's just fun to watch her because she tells you when she gets the answers right. There are people right there if she needs help or if she just wants to visit with other residents. She's not dependent on someone to drive her to a senior community center to go to an event. She just goes downstairs and the events are right there."

"I visited Hearthwood Senior Living. They were undergoing renovations, so we could see through that. They have an indoor pool. They have two meals a day. They have a private dining room, a wine cellar, and a bistro. They have happy hours on Wednesdays and Fridays. The two-bedroom that we saw there was nice. We also saw a one-bedroom with a den that was OK, but it was difficult to tell size-wise between the den and the closet. Bathrooms were ADA-compliant and very nice. They have small but usable kitchens. Storage was fine. They had a storage room close to your unit, which was maybe only four by six. They had an in-unit washer and dryer and all the amenities you'd want, beauty salon, exercise room, art room, movie theater, game rooms, lounges, and things like that. It was built on the grounds of a former seminary or convent. One of the stipulations about the purchase of the land is that the chapel had to remain, so you can get to the chapel without having to go outside, and they do transport you to services, Lutheran services, Presbyterian services, and Catholic services. They do services in the chapel. In fact, people who live in the neighborhood come to the chapel for Sunday mass. Another thing about Hearthwood that I really particularly enjoyed is that almost every unit has a balcony."

"My mom was in rehab at Franciscan Village. She's in the rehab building, where she shares a room with someone. It's a little more confusing. They're building now where all the elevators are a little further away; and I know my mom would have had a harder time taking one elevator here another one there. It's a little older. Things were really quiet that day during the tour (maybe it was because of the time of day that all the residents were more in their rooms). They have a lot of property too. It's very peaceful out there, and it's nice. It was a little bit more confusing trying to figure out. My mom's 84. I don't know if she'd ever find her way. I know they seem to charge a little more for those units that are closer to the elevators."

"The rooms are good. Beautiful and well maintained. The food is good service is good. What else can I say. Just that the staff is fantastic. Always willing.to help, always willing to figure out a way to comply with a request. And the attitude is always positive. Give this place a hard look. You will love being here"

"We put mom over in Victorian Village. We love the place and the staff is good. It is well kept. They have activities. Over all it is a very good experience. "

"We visited the Highlands of Evanston assisted living facility while searching for a place for our aunt to live in the area. The outside area was very nicely maintained. The foyer was fresh and bright with very nice decorations and furniture. The grounds offered easy access for residents, where they can enjoy walking around freely safely each day. We could see that there is also plenty of space to have cookouts, parties and picnics. Indoor rooms had plenty of fresh air and light. Each room was beautifully decorated and furnished. The colors throughout the building were soothing and comfortable. The seniors can easily socialize, make crafts, play games, watch TV and films and participate in many stimulating activities. Residents can also tend the garden. The facility can accommodate all levels of ambulation. Communal activity rooms were all spacious, with comfortable and easy access furniture. Seniors can use the exercise room at any time and also go on daily walks and relax in the whirlpool afterward, which is very nice. Aerobics and yoga classes are offered, and they also have DVDs available. The residents also go on many trips to visit the many Chicago area art galleries and museums, eat at casual and fine restaurants and enjoy the many cultural events offered in the region, such as fairs, festivals and other social gatherings. The dining room was quite nice, with plenty of space. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. The menus all had healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. The private rooms featured plenty of space in nicely decorated surroundings. All had a great deal of natural light and fresh air with very comfortable furniture. The residents here looked very content in their living environment and were well cared for by kind and considerate staff. "

"Three Crown Park was quite nice, but it was also much more expensive. It was convenient. It had a very nice library. It was pleasant. The dining area was really nice and bright. They had lots of food choices. They had lots of activities. The residents liked Three Crown Park a lot. They had a pool and a craft room. They had a doctor on site. "

"We have put down our deposit at Mather at downtown Evanston. From here we can either walk to the bank, doctor's office, library, and the grocery store. They have a lot of activities that are basically the same things. They do have something scheduled every day, and many of the things I like to do but not everything. Mather is a continuing care community. After we began to understand what was out there, we decided that we needed a continuing care community. This particular place is very close to where we have been living and close to a lot of public transportation. We have several friends that live at the Mather. We had lunch with a friend there. It was pretty good, and they have a lot of places available. There is food available at every meal but we have options. The rooms seem fairly big and pleasant. "

"This facility is located on the north side of chicago it serves a population of adults who have been diagnoised with a developmental disability. They only provide services to female residents. While there I noticed some of the residents were sharing a room. They have a full clinical staff that provides services to the residents 24 hrs a day. the meals are prepared by the staff, and on special occassions and when doing food activites, the staff will allow the residents to assist in the preparation of the meals. The facility is clean, and well-maintained. The staff is very hands on, and the residents seem to have a closeness with one another. In general, I would rank this facility a 4 out of 5 stars. "

"In our modern world, CBV is kind and gentle. The facility is immaculate and has a neighborhood concept. The greatest asset is the caring staff who not only provide for the residents in a loving and respectful manner but also lend support to families in what can sometimes be a difficult time in life’s journey. "

"We like The Admiral, and we thought that was a good place -- lots of light and very pretty facility. It had just about everything with the other facility, but the other facility's location was better for us. The food was very good, and there were plenty of activities. The residents all seemed very happy, and the staff seemed very professional, friendly, and competent. "

"Paul House & Health Care Center looks like it was very nice, and it was big. The problem was they were too expensive. They came in over $10,000 for semi-private ,and that was too much. Otherwise, I would have been comfortable putting my mother there. I saw their therapy area, it certainly looked like they had everything that she would need. I like the person who gave us the tour. Before we did the tour, we sat down and talked to her. She wanted to know more about my mother and explained what the benefits were from Paul House. The rooms were nice. They had big rooms, where they had groupings or you could get out of your room and go sit in a nice area. They had a nice dining room. They said they had activities for the residents, but I didn't see a schedule or anything. They had a garden where the residents could go out when the weather was nice. The person who gave us the tour was very qualified. She was very good, so I was impressed with them. She really took her time. She told us all about the place and how it works with the residents. One thing is, they had a very small parking lot. It meant you had a park on the street, which in Chicago is no small feat. It was a turnoff as well. It was a very small parking lot. It almost looks like it's just staff parking."
