Rooms are a little dated, but very nice, larger than newer facilities, and clean. Staff are friendly, a couple of the staff volunteer for a cat rescue and have kittens for the residents to play with and visit. Food is good, my grandmother enjoys the various selections. Med room staff is knowledgeable, and helpful. Great activity programs, my grandmother is always busy doing something.

The Californian was nicer. We got to see the residents and they were all bright-eyed. We had no appointment, so it wasn't like they were cleaning the place up for us. It was nice. My relative enjoyed it himself. He was ready to stay. They had a nice library. They had what they called the living room. They had exercise going on. They had bingo twice a week and a lot of activities. The common rooms were big enough and people were using them. It was as nice as the other facility I saw but the feeling of it was better. When you saw the cleaners, they acted like, "Oh, excuse me." and disappeared and didn't invade any of the process. The residents were welcoming. It was really clean and the landscapers were working on the yard. There was somebody always busy doing something, but they weren't invasive. They had two vacancies, so that was nice. We wouldn't have to wait a long time.

The Californian was a beautiful facility with really great quality service, and it is closer to me. They've all been excellent and really responsive to us and our needs. The views are beautiful. The apartments are very clean. There's no smell. I feel like I'm just moving my dad from his apartment right to another place, because they look very similar.

My friend has been in The Californian since November, and they're taking good care of him. His room is big, but it's just very expensive. The dining area and everything there is really nice. He only eats soft food, so he doesn't get a lot of great food, but I'm sure they have good food. They have a courtyard with a picnic area and stuff. It's beautiful.

My wife and I moved into The Californian. The staff is friendly and very efficient. The food is sometimes not top notch, but for the most part it's pretty good. Those things make it really good. You can have a pet, so we have our dog. Those were the three things that made us choose the,. Because of the coronavirus they can't offer too much, but almost every day (except on the weekend), they let us go outside, take a little walk around their front area with the strawberry and flowers, and that takes about a half hour to an hour. They just started some indoor exercises where you sit on a chair. Those are the two things that are happening right now, and I think more will happen later. The outside is pretty nice. They have an area where you can take your dog and they have another nice area that is dog-free.

I went to The Californian. I liked it better than the others. The staff was very pleasant, helpful, the rooms were shared, but there's a division in it, and it looked like a 2-bedroom apartment. There's a little bit more privacy which my dad would appreciate, and they were able to separate parts of the facility a bit better for the memory care portion, they have very nice outdoor spaces, lots of activities, very nice kitchen and dining area, and nice living area. They have a lot of in-house activities, and they also had group outings, and they take a shuttle out to dinner, movies, or shopping.

My grandma was a resident of the community about 10yrs ago. She was so happy there. I only remember great things from visiting her. So now that it is time for my mom to look into a retirement community I of course wanted to re discover The Californian. I am so happy i did. It is still owned and managed by the same great family. Some employees i even recognized & they recognized me too! I was so warm & inviting. The building has only gotten better with age just like my mom. Everything is updated and modern but its still the same great food, great fun & happy people. Both the people who live there and employees were smiling and inviting us to join them for happy hour snacks. The young woman who took us around was so informative, caring and bubbley. She has worked in elder care all her adult life. It is so nice to know that the people who work there honestly care for the people they take care of. It makes this hard decision just a little less stressful having that piece of mind. I could even have her come out to our house to meet and evaluate my mom! Now that's service! i am so pleased and impressed by the facility i know we will be making the correct decision to place my mom here.

The Californian was very clean and very friendly. It had a lot of amenities. The best part about it was when you walked in, there were seniors in the lobby area on the couches, and they all looked very happy. They were very friendly too. They actually came in and talked to mom. The staff was very friendly. Overall, it was amazing. I would live there if I could. It was beautiful. The food looked great. There were lots of activities. They had exercises, and they had a giant room that had TV and books, but they used that to do chair exercises. If seniors were able, they had bingo and a lot of field trips to various places. They showed me a calendar, and it was pretty full. There was stuff going on all the time. There was a book club. There were games. They went shopping regularly. They had like a little dog park at the back. So, if you had an animal, you could take them out there. They had chickens, and they could feed the chickens which was pretty cool.

We've chosen the Californian. My mother loves it and has been there for a month. She's very happy. It's very open and very clean. The people that care for the residents are extremely happy and always there to help. They have many activities, so they feel very independent and in control. They have a community center with a big TV and very comfortable chairs. They have a lovely area outside for them to walk, too. You can have a small animal, and they have a chicken coop.

The Californian was a very nice facility. I was very impressed with how organized and clean it was. I looked at a room that was like a studio apartment. It was very nice and spacious. It seemed to have all the amenities. Everything was there. The dining room and the food were fine. I was able to interview a couple of the staff members, like the main lady in the head office. She was very helpful and gave a lot of information. She did a very good job.

Not equipped for medical issues. My mother had panic attacks for three days before they notified me that her medicine did not arrive with her from the hospital. Even though they had the doctor's list of medications and directions. I finally had to go to the pharmacy myself to get them. On a friday I told the head medical person that I thought my mother had a UTI and I was told they would fax her doctor to get approval to get a urine sample sent out. On sunday when I called to check status the medical dept. did not know what I was talking about and could not find a fax or any notes in her record. Bad communication between shifts. When they were trying to adjust my mother in bed they were grabbing her arms and I asked if this was standard procedure because it just looked WRONG! And I told them she was on blood thinners. They said they usually use a mat under the patient. I asked that they go and get one and the girl that left to do this huffed and sighed as she left the room. Not a place I want caring for my mother.

The Californian was good. They were very friendly and did a good job at the presentation. However, it was just too big, and they have one very small elevator. They should fix it to be much quicker.

The Californian was a very nice place with recent, nice remodelling done. They had a nice cafeteria and a good menu. The rooms were small but seemed OK. The residents looked happy. I would recommend this facility.

The Californian was a very good facility with good staff and a large dining room. The food was good. The room was of a very nice size and looked good. My grandmother shared a room when she was there. They had a very nice common living room with a TV and a fireplace. They were very helpful to us when we needed a place for my grandmother very quickly and were able to provide her with a room right away.

Provider was very impersonal in caring for my relative, and the food was horrible. My grandmother was forced to stay in a room with another occupant who suffered from extreme dementia who screamed and cried at all hours of the night although she asked to be moved to a different room

After another challenging and expensive year of in-home care it was time to increase the amount of direct supervision my mom needed. Approaching 92 years of age she still wasn't ready to give up her independence, but knew we were making decisions in her best interest. I needed round the clock supervision, but with flexibility for amount of care provided, and with a dementia diagnosis I also wanted options for total care down the road. My prayers were answered when I found The Californian, assisted living for seniors. My mom moved in almost two months ago and has been thriving ever since. I wish I had made this decision earlier, and given her this experience before her dementia had advanced this far. Her caregivers are the most wonderful, caring and thoughtful people, and they are always so positive--especially on her more difficult days. The facility has a wide range of daily activities, regular outings, and weekly socials. Their menu is top-notch, and we all know how important appetizing meals are. I'm beyond happy with every aspect of our experiences thus far, and want to enthusiastically encourage anyone in the area who is looking for the best assisted living option to check out The Californian.
