I am a stroke survivor that runs a support group in Las Vegas. For the last two + years I have worked with an 84 year old Aphasia stroke survivor that has a very difficult time understanding and expressing speach. She had worked with Apple Home Healthcare for a short time but the Speach Theripist they had subcontracted with left the state and service stopped. Last week, Apple contacted this lady directly (they had been asked to only contact her thru myself or another lady that had power of attorney) and told her they had a referal from one of her doctors and wanted to come over. She said yes and called me to say they were comming in half an hour. I told her to call me when they got there (I am 1/2 mile away). They finally showed up 2 1/2 hours later, and I received a call from the lady to let me know they had arrived. I explained I had a family issue and could not make it, could they come back on Friday and also asked which doctor had given them the referal. They told me the Doctors name and said they would come back on Friday but I would have to contact the office to get a specific time. Since it was well past 5:00PM, the office was closed and I had to contact them the next day. Before they left, they got this lady to sign a contract with them for their services including speach trerapy (which she already had at one of the hospitals in the area and I told the lady from Apple that she had). The next day I visited the doctors office with the 84 year old survivor to get a copy of the order given to Apple. There was no order, the paitent had not seen the doctor in over 6 months and no one knew how Apple had gotten her name. I called Apple and was told they had a signed contract, I did not have a power of attorney and would have to sue if I wanted more info. Be very cautious.
