My mother was on their service and received THE BEST CARE! Her nurse and aide were like family and always stayed longer than necessary to make sure she was taken are of and my questions were answered. The social worker helped us to get her survivor's benefits from the VA AND apply for Medicaid so she could go to a nursing home when her care got to be too hard for me at home. I don't know what I would have done without them and I feel like I can be at peace with her death because I know she was treated so well and was made to be comfortable during her last few weeks of life.

My father was with Gentiva for 18 months. During that time, they billed Medicare over $6,000 per month regardless of the amount of time spent with my dad (which for much of the 18 months was about 12 hours per month). On the day when my dad passed away, the hospice worker left the nursing facility where my dad was and as a result he did not receive the pain medication he was supposed to. I spent his last hours frantically trying to track down someone who could administer pain medication to ease his suffering instead of providing comfort to him. To my knowledge, Gentiva is a profit organization (as opposed to a non-profit). I would strongly urge you to look to another organization.

I think Odyssey HealthCare Home Care Agency is an excellent choice for someone who is looking for someone to take care of a friend or family member that prefer to live independently and need access to outside supportive care and assistance when needed. While there, I noticed that they offer assistance with personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, undressing, in addition to their providers help in meal preparation, house keeping, and shopping. In addition to they also offer assistance with self administered medications, ambulation, and exercises and transportation to medical appointments. They also have a team of skilled trained professional Nurses and CENA's that specialize in Hospice Care. Odyssey Health Care Home Care Agency also provide supportive services that can arranged for various amount of times needed and including up to 24/7, or on a respite or temporary time bases. They also provide a variety of other services to fit the individuals Care Plan that is assessed by their skilled professional care team Nurses. In General, I would have to rank Odyssey Health Care Home Care Agency on a five stars rating for its excellence in home care providers.
