Fredericksburg, Virginia, is located along the Rappahannock River Valley, an area that is rich in U.S. Civil War history and the home of the Fredericksburg  and Spotsylvania National Military Park. Seniors who are history buffs may enjoy spending time here. For those who simply like being outdoors, the Old Mill Park offers shady walking trails along the river. Fredericksburg is considered part of the Baltimore-Washington DC metropolitan area and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Shopping, dining and entertainment in the Fredericksburg Historic District is one of the biggest attractions for the city. The Central Park Shopping District, one of the largest along the East Coast, offers many choices for seniors to buy things, window shop or mall walk. With about 1 in 10 Fredericksburg residents  aged 65 and older, it’s common to see many seniors out and about. The area itself is in a temperate climate and offers many attractions for seniors wishing to age in place.

Fredericksburg seniors can anticipate spending about $4,290 to $4,458 per month for home assistance.

For those who are able and willing, the agency has volunteer opportunities. The Senior Cafe program encourages socialization with different planned events for seniors to have lunch and meet new friends. Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
