Boyce Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Boyce:

Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging

Address: 207 Mosby Lane, Front Royal, VA 22630
Phone: (540) 635-7141

SAAA is a non-profit organization that provides a wide array of services to seniors age 60 and over in the Boyce region that help them live independently and delay transitioning to long-term care facilities. Some of its services include Meals on Wheels, respite care, in-home care and transportation to local senior centers. In some cases, such as with home-delivered meals, services are free. Participants are charged for respite and in-home care services on a sliding fee scale.

Home Weatherization Assistance

Address: 448 NE Depot Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073
Phone: (540) 382-2002

Community Housing Partners is a non-profit organization that implements the Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program. It provides money for heating and cooling costs for low-income seniors at no cost. Participants receive an energy audit of their home that checks for air leakage around doors and windows, heating system safety, efficiency and duct leakage diagnostics, and the adequacy of insulation. Then, CHP performs any necessary repairs and improvements to maximize the home’s safety, comfort and energy efficiency. To qualify for this program, seniors must meet income guidelines.

Real Estate Tax Relief Program

Address: 101 Chalmers Court, Berryville, VA 22611
Phone: (540) 955-5108

The county’s Commissioner of Revenue provides a real estate tax relief program for seniors age 65 and over who meet income and asset guidelines. To qualify, seniors must occupy their home as their only dwelling, and the home can be on no more than three acres of land. The exact amount of the exemption ranges between 50-100%, depending on the senior’s gross annual income.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
