The Senior Solutions agency offers assorted elder care and support services to senior residents of upstate South Carolina. For starters, the agency’s Senior Access program offers information referral and counseling services for elderly individuals looking for food stamp assistance, Medicare coverage, low-income subsidies and help with locating home care or maintenance services. This program also offers general help with legal or insurance paperwork for seniors. Additionally, Senior Solutions manages several other major areas of senior support through group dining, Meals on Wheels, senior centers and scheduled transportation.

The Anderson Free Clinic and its Honea satellite facility offer basic and essential healthcare services to people who are unable to pay for primary or specialty care due to economic constraints or because they lack insurance. This includes elderly visitors. The Free Clinic’s services include primary care checkups, outpatient treatment services, referrals to specialists and certain limited dental services. There’s also a pharmacy at the facility where patients can obtain prescription drugs as directed by their doctor at heavily discounted prices. Social worker consultation is needed to approve new patients.

South Carolina Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

The federally funded South Carolina Weatherization Assistance Program is managed by the South Carolina Office of Economic Opportunity and available to all South Carolina residents who qualify under its economic eligibility requirements. The program gives preferential treatment to elderly individuals 60 or older and to families with disabled members living with them. Among other eligibility requirements is an annual household income of $25,760 per person per household or less.
