"My dad's mom had advanced parkinsons as well as dementia cause by her parkinsons medications. When our family wasn't able to care for her by ourselves we still wanted for her to be able to live at home. We interviewed several home-care services and eventually hired Right At Home. They were professional and caring. We felt totally comfortable and safe bringing them into my grandparent's house. The caregivers helped my grandmother bath, fixed her hair, made sure she took her medicines on time, helped her into and out of her chair and bed, and generally made her life as normal and comfortable as possible. I was especially impressed with the way they helped with grooming. My grandmother had always taken a lot of pride in her appearance and I know she would have been mortified about the way she looked. The Right At Home lady curled her hair and fixed it based on some photos we had and even put some lipstick on her. It made her look (and probably feel) much more like herself. I know that they took a huge burden away from my Grandfather. Their help added months to the time she could continue living at home. "

"We got Home Instead for my mother because she has dementia. They keep her busy and occupied and help with cooking and monitoring her. You get some caregivers that are decent and there are some that aren't as good. The one we obtained a few weeks ago is a good fit. She's an older woman and she's good with my mom. This caregiver was trained well and is doing a good job. The agency is there for us for whatever we need, whatever time we need it."

"I have used Comfort Keepers twice when I have had knee replacement surgery. The aides have always been helpful and the office was great in helping me get my LTC claim processed. The aides helped me with bathing and dressing each day. They also helped with exercises and were very encouraging as I progressed. They also drove me in my car to physical therapy and the store. I would recommend the Cincinnati Comfort Keepers to anyone who needs care."

"The reason I like Comfort Keepers of Cold Spring, KY so much compared to anybody else is that the management makes their patients' needs their number one priority. I just appreciate that so much. They're very good and wonderful. We have somebody from ten until three and we really love her. One of the things that I love that they do for me is they bill directly to the long-term care insurance. That's a load off my mind and it's a huge service. It's also a great value for the price. They do light cleaning, get mom's medicine, and pick up groceries. They just don't have enough employees to fill in all the gaps I need."

Aaron (I don't know if he's the owner, but he's the dude who answers the phone when I call) is an absolute sweetheart, and Jane H., the supervising nurse, is kind and super professional. Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
