"Right at Home came through for us when a family member needed immediate, short term 24-hour care. Jeanette, the owner, took my initial call and was helpful, responsive, and understood the sense of urgency. Liz was thorough and conscientious at the initial meeting. She took her time to understand our needs and provided guidance for the care team to make sure they understood as well. Rachel and Crystal were kind and provided both attentive and respectful care. Care notes were detailed and completed daily. All involved were genuinely interested in making sure the care provided was exceptional. Thank you for your help in our time of need."

"We have been subscribing to the service from Right at Home for the past six months or so. We're very pleased. My husband is receiving the care. Our provider gives him shower. That's the main thing that I ask him. I had him vacuum the basement floor and put things on shelves, and those are too difficult for me to do. Our caregiver comes twice a week, Tuesday and Friday. The caregiver is very agreeable, compassionate, capable, on time, and kind. It's excellent service."

"My wife had hip replacement surgery the end of June with complications. I called Rob at Home Instead when it was determined that she would be sent home as opposed to going to a rehab facility. Rob and Al worked to make certain that staff was available the day after I first contacted them. Rob brought a recliner over for Marcia to use instead our having to buy one. The care givers were all very helpful in keeping Marcia comfortable, clean and safe. We are so grateful to Rob and Al and their team for all the help! I highly recommend Home Instead of DeKalb! "I have to give a "shout out" to the owner and staff at Right At Home, located in Batavia, IL. I am a local care manager that recently was dealing with a very intense, high acuity case, requiring short shifts of care in an emergency situation. Kathy was wonderful to work with. She didn't hesitate to jump in and help, quickly staffed the requested hours, which no other agency was able to staff, on a Friday at 4pm! The staff supported the family and provided care for the patient in a was that was gentle, supportive and accepting. I can't thank them enough, job well done! "

"I just had a good feeling with the caregiver from Right At Home. The person that came actually clicked very well with my husband. I think the caregiver understands what he needs before he really knows what he needed. And she reminds my husband a lot about our daughter. She provides just about anything I need her to do like laundry, play games with my husband, and she's very capable of doing a lot of things, so I've been very happy. "

"Our Mother required care and we were referred to Right at Home (RAH) for home health care. We met the owner, Josh, who personally visited Mom and I as she was recovering and rehabilitating at a skilled nursing facility. Mom wanted to be back in her home. Josh detailed the home health care services RAH could provide. I reviewed all the contract terms and found them to be very customer friendly. RAH worked with our family to provide a home health care option for our Mother, who wanted to remain in her own home (not in a nursing home or hospital). RAH home health care was a great resource to us. We received wonderful care and attention from Josh and his team at RAH throughout. The Staff were all wonderful, attentive, and genuinely caring. Every interaction we had with RAH was pleasant and they were always exceptionally concerned, helpful, and caring. The RAH on-line Family Portal was very user friendly, and easy to use for scheduling home health care coverage for our Mother. I looked around and found RAH to be the best in the business. They are a local affiliate, knowledgeable and tied to the local community, and provide an incredible service to families who are going through extremely challenging situations taking care of their loved ones. I really love this company, RAH, it's Owner and Staff, and am grateful for the service they provide families. I highly recommend RAH."

"My mother had vertigo that required hospitalization. After leaving the hospital, she needed 24 hour care (two 12 hour shifts) until she did better. My mother wants to be independent, but we needed someone to be there until she got better and gets checked out by the her primary care doctor. In doing so, we greatly appreciated the diligent care given to my mother by Right at Home North Suburban Chicago. All who have come have done a good job. The 24 hour care was very successful. We will leave it up to my mother as far as how much help she needs going forward (and give her space to decide whether she wants to be alone), but we know that RAH is available to help us to do what we can to support her."

"I am using JoLand Home Care LLC. The owner comes in sometimes, and then I had a girl, but she's on vacation. So, I usually have one girl in the morning, and then a different girl at night. They're very accommodating. They come in and do the laundry, and they could mop my floor and help me clean my house if I wanted to. They get my food if I need food, and they change me and wash me. I don't require much care. I only take two pills a day. I only take a pain pill and a sleeping pill, so it's not like they're going to keep me knowing what I've got to take."

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.
There are many nonprofits and programs in Huntley that can help older residents continue to live at home for as long as it’s feasible.
