"Erwin Health is an older place. It is setup like a hospital; there’s no carpet and no soft chairs, but it is much more sanitary. They have to be what they called toileted, and they can handle it here at Erwin. They know how to do it. Almost every single day, they have people volunteer to come in and play music, guitars, and sing. Periodically, they have the TV on, but they don’t have more movies on. "

"I liked the ratio of staff to patient in Governor’s Bend, and the staff is phenomenal. It’s only about 3 years old, and the building is beautiful. My aunt is very much a church goer, and it’s Christian based; they have a bible study and things that she really enjoys. The food is excellent, and I’ve never met a staff that isn’t caring, nice, and just really on the ball all the time. "

"Four Oaks center in Jonesborough impressed me tremendously. I walked into this building during a B2B sales job - and I was completely unaware that this building was any type of elderly care center. The building was immaculate and well-kept, and the staff were very friendly. The front desk clerk bought a Domino's Pizza coupon booklet from me to use for the guests when they ordered pizza on weekends. "

"My mother was at Lakebridge for rehabilitation following an illness. The rehab department is great. The best I have seen. Most of the nursing staff truly cares, and work extra hard. There are a couple bad ones in every crowd, but overall, this health care center is great. If you have doubts, get out and travel to some more and compare the atmospheres."

"I toured and I'm leaning towards moving my mom in there because of its cleanliness, room size, and dining opportunities. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable too. Also, the rooms had the convenience of a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. I liked the fact that they have things for the residents to do and it's convenient enough for me based on where I live. So, the location is nice."

"TownView is beautiful and has wonderful activities and meals. It's a great place. The staff is extremely accommodating and nice. They have game nights, movie nights, an ice cream parlor, and an activities director that has something to do every day. It's very nice, and I highly recommend it. They also have chapel services, a beauty shop, and wonderful sitting areas."

"My aunt moved into Family Ministries Retirement & Assisted Living. Their representative was most helpful. Some of the promises made were not done. The staff is very friendly, but the least thing is that it's understaffed. They did the best they can do with the food. They have games, crafts, and things like that. We were hoping for more of a homey atmosphere; it's more industrial or hospital type. Things were not delivered that was promised."

"My grandmother is now in Princeton Transitional Care and Assisted Living, it's nice. It's newer, they offer 24-hour nursing care, and they do the meals. I liked it because it was all one price, while in a lot of places, it's like a la carte so there are a lot of different fees for different things that they do. And here, everything is already included like help with dressing, showers, and all of that stuff is all included in one price. It's not like where they'll suddenly start adding additional costs as they need additional care, so I like that option. They have different room options. She's in a studio apartment, so it's one big room and she has a nice-size bathroom that's handicap accessible, with a walk-in shower, and a nice built-in seat. And then it has a little kitchenette with almost a full-size refrigerator, they provide the refrigerator and a microwave. There's a lot of cabinet space and a little sink, it's a nice little kitchenette. All of them have windows looking either outside or into the courtyard. They also offer two rooms and stuff like that, but she's just in a studio. The staff has been very attentive and very helpful. When I call and check on her, I'll call the nurse's station, and I've always been able to get through to somebody every time I've called. The food smells and looks good but I haven't tried any of it. On Wednesday nights, they do wine and music, then they have a church service every Sunday, and they had a whole calendar of activities. They do things like cards and a lot of different stuff."

"I have visited friends in this facility, and I want to live there when I retire. It is a retirement facility, with all the amenities. The apartments are spacious, dining is excellent, and a warm and friendly staff. I really like the idea that I can be independent, but still have other activities offered. I highly recommend this for your golden years "

"My grandmother was first admitted on the rehab side after suffering a long bout with pneumonia and bronchitis. She improved somewhat, but really needed 24 hour care that we were unable to provide at home. With her not wanting anyone in her home that she did not know, our only option was an assisted living facility. She was moved to the skilled side several months after arriving at NHC and was there for over 2 years. The nursing staff treated her very well and kept the family informed of progress or the need for hospitalizations when needed. She always spoke highly of her nursing staff and her roommate. When she passed away, the staff that normally worked with her did come to the funeral. The care and compassion that the staff showed far exceeded my expectations. "

"I'm currently at Hillview Health Center for rehab. It is a very nice facility. The upkeep is very, very good. The rooms are nice. They have a little gym at the top area here for the rehab part, and it's very nice and up-to-date. They decorate very nicely. Like right now, they decorate for the autumn and also specifically some little Halloween stuff, and they do a super job of it. They have a wonderful staff, from top to bottom. They're very, very patient-oriented and they are largely hometown staff from here in Elizabethton and the surrounding areas. Most patients are from this area, so they have a great rapport with the patients. They are very caring people. When you request assistance for anything, they're right on it. They do a nice job and they are very professional. The nursing staff is very professional, as are the doctors. And the CNAs are very well trained and they do a great job. Food is just like typical institutional food and it's not going to be like dining out in a restaurant. Upstairs, they have more of a permanent population. So, they have activities every day for those folks. I'd participate a couple of times a week when they have a little group exercise thing."

"I toured Hermitage Health and Rehabilitation for my mom. It was a much newer facility than many I've seen. I think that the physical appearance of the place, outside especially, was more attractive than your average place. It is also in a very good location. It's up on a steep hill, so, in wintertime, and you want to go visit somebody there, you need to know how to drive in winter conditions and on a steep hill. Nonetheless, I think it's a very nice place for the residents. Now, the only potential downside or potential negative is that I noticed it was extremely crowded. I just felt like they had a lot of patients. When I visited, it was a time for them to be out socializing and not be in their rooms, so the hallways were full of people. When my mom was moved out of rehab and into long-term care without having applied for Medicaid yet, they kind of stopped helping. I wasn't happy with that. When they thought they were going to have my mom as a resident, they were very nice and very helpful. But when she got moved out of rehab up in the place where she is now in Kentucky, that made it impossible to transfer here under Medicare. And so they just kind of dropped it. They said there's nothing they can do. And I was hoping they'd have been more helpful. The place is not brand new, but it looked new and it looked nice and clean."

"My grandfather has moved into Yancey House. I feel like it was a good fit for him. It's clean and the people seem very nice. He's happy with the food and the care. It was one of the only places that would take him with type 1 diabetes. His room is not as big as other places that I had seen previously, but overall, he's happy. It's a double room, but he's currently in it by himself, so it's very spacious for him by himself right now. When you put another person in it, it's probably very ordinary, like what you would expect to be for a double room. They clean it once a week and they do his linens and towels once a week. They have an activities calendar and they do different things. His favorite has been the live music so far. They brought in several people that do guitar and sing and he likes that they have church service twice a week. They have various games and karaoke nights, etc. I'm happy with the activities. My grandmother has been there several times with my grandfather at dinnertime and she said that he's happy with the food. It's one of the lower-cost places that we found. It's a nice place."

"A family friend had back surgery and was a resident in this facility after his hospital stay. I cannot express how pleased that I was with everything in the entire stay at Durham-Hensley. This facility is spotless from top to bottom with nothing but the best equipment available to the staff. The physical therapy staff worked with my friend on a daily basis and got him moving around so quickly, it amazed all of us. They did not leave us waiting for any changes in doctors orders or medications because they got it done IMMEDIATELY. None of us were left wondering what the plan of care was for our friend, we were constantly updated on his progress and what was next in the plan. The food was even good in this facility! I honestly cannot sing their praises enough here at Durham-Hensley. If a problem had to be found, it would be that they are located a bit on the rural side, but even that works out nicely with great scenery being out every window. Highly recommend this place to anyone. "
