I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was there for 2 weeks for physical therapy which was not given when it was time for her to go home she could not even stand with the help but I was told that she had physical therapy everyday that she walked on the hall and she couldn't even stand up to walk to the bathroom it's not a good place for you to take your loved one

Rooms were unattractive and sterile - depressing. Upon arrival- Had to ask for overhead light fixture to be cleaned - could see bugs - the Air unit to be cleaned - it was dirty. Often had to ask for them to clean bathroom floors The food was pretty bad. When they had "family days" the food was much better. Turnover in kitchen directors - one was promoted from Transportation Director to Food Director, many times we had to fix mom something else to eat. Some of the assistants were great - management not so much. Big turnovers in Directors and staff - they only cared about the money. Lack of attention to residents in Memory Care - I had to have an outside person (paid) to come 4 days a week to make sure mom was being taken care of. Communications to and from staff and administration was DIFFICULT! They wouldn't return calls, couldn't get thru to the nurses desk, administrator was NEVER available for a phone call -- only wanted to email and that would take several days. Mom was sent to the hospital many times - during those stays hospital staff coming in would cringe when they found out she was at Sprenger - after talking to some - they had previously worked there and left because of administration and the attitudes from them .. don't say anything that would help the residents. Pharmacist asked about meds mom was on when she was in the ER - I told them that Sprenger would have those -- they rolled their eyes and said "well we will not have much luck getting that list from them" There were countless issues and challenges and the ONLY reason I did not move mom was that it would not have been good for her state of mind and the dementia.

Mom is at Sprenger Health Care Port Royal, and I would give them an excellent rating because they are. It's beautiful. It's a one-story building and Mom is in the assisted living side. The staff is wonderful. They all love her. She really enjoys the food and they give them a choice. They play LCR, a dice game, do exercises, attend cooking classes, and go on outings every once in a while.

Sprenger Health Care of Port Royal is beautiful like a cruise ship. It has a beautiful community room with very high ceilings and a grand piano. It has a club bar. They have happy hour every day and it probably seats 15 people at the bar. It's a place where they get together every day. They have an outdoor wood-burning fireplace with seating; they have a firepit there. There are one-bedrooms with a patio. It's very nice and new. It's only two years old. The staff who assisted us were very personable. They offer Milkshake Monday and they have mimosas after chapel service. I know someone who lives there. My friend's mom is there, and she said the food is very good. Nobody is starving in that place. They have options for each meal. Everybody doesn't eat the same thing.

The rehab part of Sprenger Health Care Port Royal has been great. I'd recommend it. It's new, modern, and the people are caring. The administrative staff are helpful and I've been real pleased with them for weeks when my mom's been there. She's gotten good care. The room is nice and the place is really well-maintained. The food is pretty good and she likes it. The cost is probably on the higher end of the scale, but for the support they provided, I was comfortable with that. I thought it was worth the money. They all worked really hard, kept us (her family) updated on what they were doing and why they were doing it, and how we could help.

My dad is at Sprenger Health Care Port Royal for rehab. He's currently in quarantine for fourteen days, so I can't visit him, except outside of his window. He's been there for two days now, and it seems like an OK place. There is nothing really special about it. It might have woods in the back. Parking is not very good, and I'm not too impressed with the nursing staff. He presses the button and it takes them like fifteen minutes to get there, but the front desk and the volunteers are really good. He didn't like his dinner yesterday. He said everything was sweet, but at least they're feeding him. He is there for physical therapy, but so far they don't know anything, and he hasn't had any physical therapy for two days. He has an appointment at the hospital, but they don't even know when the appointment is. They won't give me a copy of the discharge papers because they said that I have to call the hospital first. They don't even give him a copy of his own discharge papers. So, I'm not too impressed with that.

We chose Sprenger Health Care Port Royal for my mother. She moved in last Saturday. I'm an RN and in my line of work, I had heard good things about their assisted living side, but the main thing I think that led me to this facility is the safety. They have a lot of safety mechanisms in place, and I just really felt like my mother would be safe in case she started wandering or anything like that. It is a locked facility, and they have all safety measures. The staff that I had worked with on the phone and the staff that I met in person were just incredible. They were so, so helpful. I got a really good feeling about them. Since my mother has been admitted, I have nothing to say but wonderful about the facility and the staff. I can only speak for the assisted living side; they have been incredible. My mom's room has everything she could possibly need. She does not have a suite. They do have suites there but none were available. She has a little outdoor patio because she does love to sit outside. It is in a courtyard where other residents can visit with each other and all; that is nice. Her room has all the safety measures in it as well with the pull strings for help. They put safety pendants on the patients. My mother fell the other night and she pushed her little safety pendant and they came in right away. Her room has a little kitchenette and has everything she needs. It's a very comfortable space for her. The staff has been incredible. Truly, I did not expect all the attention that I have received. They update me daily. I just couldn't ask for more. The staff knew that my mom was not expecting this move because her dementia is at a level we couldn't tell her. They had the staff right there, standing in the background, when we entered this facility to make sure if we were having any trouble. The staff is wonderful. My mom has certainly enjoyed it. The facility is beautiful and clean. I think the facility is great from the area I've seen. I don't have a lot to say about their activities because I don't really know. Because of the COVID thing going on, they can't have their residents all together, but they brought bowling to my mother's hall so that each resident could come out and bowl in the hallway to give them something to do. From what they told me, it sounds like they have some good activities. The value for money is very reasonable in comparison to other places; I'm satisfied with that.

This facility is beautiful, the rooms are clean and bright, and the staff is very warm and friendly. My Dad is currently living here and enjoys it very much. It is a much more social atmosphere than other communities we visited. My Dad has made many friends here and looks forward to going down to the bar area for social hour every afternoon. The staff is very attentive to the residents and their needs.

I visited this facility

Sprenger Health Care was really nice, and my mother-in-law liked it. However, she cannot give her cat away, so she changed her mind. They allow cats the whole day, but at night, they can’t stay the night with the owner. It’s beautiful when you walk into the main building. They had a huge area there, and the residents were sitting at different tables and talking with one another. They had a bar where they could purchase drinks; some of them had beer, some wine, and some mixed drinks. Everything was immaculatly clean. They haven’t been open too long, but it was sunny inside where they had a lot of windows, and everyone seemed to be very happy. If I have to go somewhere, I would like to go there. The rooms were very nice, but it was a little pricey.
