I visited this facility

I visited Beaumont at Byn Mawr. It was a little staid, and it wasn’t my type. It was very nice and pleasant, but it wasn’t very active. I met one person and she was very pleasant. I wasn’t too impressed with the rooms, but they were nice.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My wife and I have been Beaumont owners for three years. We have found this the most caring community we ever have known. Both residents AND staff look out for one another every day.. The fact that we bought into a non-profit corporation has two positive results: (1) the staff work for us, not a third party management company. We provide better-than-average pay and benefits. Many of our staff have been here for years; nearly all know us by name and vice versa, No surprise that we show up regularly among the best places to work in the Delaware Valley; (2) Since members share ownership, no one has access to benefits that are not equally available to all. That includes our nine dining rooms, modern pool and fitness center, movie theater, greenhouse and gardens, and 12-acres of woods with hiking trails. We have 300 residents and will not be building more living units. We intend to remain an intimate face-to-face community. We have spoken with and visited several new friends in both our assisted living and skilled nursing wings. Nearly all praise the the care they receive. Re the economic model, we do not pay for long-term care insurance in our fees. That means we pay only for the health care we use. Owning our own unit means a sale is guaranteed with 90% of proceeds going to the owners at a price based on original costs plus capital improvements and market conditions. Since we are all equally human, none of us is happy about everything all the time. Some of us like to run things. Others don't. Some of us grumble. Others of us smile. Many of us do both. Sometimes dining service is slow. Some people complain that our menus have too many choices. That's no different from our lives before Beaumont. In sum, for us--and most of our Beaumont friends--this is a great place to grow old.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has lived at Beaumont for 7 years and I have NEVER been impressed with their attention to service, the food is average at best, they pay their restaurant staff a fixed wage so the service is generally HORRENDOUS and they cater to a few elite residents and care little about the rest. They are resident run and as such the cliques and pettiness persist amongst the residents and permeates the place like an elderly middle school. The residents own their unit and such it becomes prohibitively expensive if they need to move to assisted living (which is a closet sized room) with little attention - they have to sell their apartment even if they are paying to live in assisted living=double the expense. The social workers pander the family and act engaged but frankly are disconnected from real issues. The place is lipstick on a pig and I would NEVER recommend it to a friend, a client or anyone. I visited this facility

Beaumont at Bryn Mawr is great, really beautiful, and elegant. If it weren’t so far out and it weren’t so expensive, it would be high on our list. We’ve eaten there a couple of times because we have a friend who lives there. The food is excellent. One thing that might be an issue for some people is that there’s a fair amount of walking involved. There are long corridors and some people might prefer something tighter, but it’s very hard to find a reason not to like them. There is some parking difficulty, but it’s really good. The other nice thing about Beaumont is that it’s a coop, so you buy in, but when you leave or when you die, they sell the apartment to somebody else and that money goes into your estate. In a lot of places, you pay in and that’s it. You never see that money again if you leave, but Beaumont has that advantage. It’s run by its residents; they make all the major decisions about it, so if somebody wants to redo the swimming pool or do something significant, that’s decided by the residents.

I visited this facility

At Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, they would deliver your dinner to your room like a hotel. They have a small, elegant dining room instead of a large cafeteria. They have the usual activities like fitness, swimming, library, and other things. It is an old mansion that has an organ, so they put on organ concerts. Their apartments were big with eastern and southern exposures and large decks. What impressed me was that people and the fact that I could treat it like a hotel room with room service.

I visited this facility

Beaumont was a fancy place, but I did not like their business model. This place requires that you purchase a unit in order to gain entry. So you have to enter into a sales agreement with the present owner of one of their units, and if you come to an agreement and initiate a sale, then they transfer the property, and you wind up with presumably a mortgage. I sold my house a couple of years ago, and I was not interested in purchasing another property; that is why I said I don't like their business model. We found the place somewhat dark. It is contained in a huge old mansion, so it is a rather luxurious place. But it was super quiet. We hardly saw any residents, and I found it not very appealing. They had very nice facilities and a nice dining room.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I would have liked to know that not all assisted living facilities can handle patients who are aggressive and that you need a nursing home that can provide the proper medication This facility has been able to give my husband the care he needs. He has been there for almost 26 months and is physically healthy.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My great-great aunt is 97 years old. Although she needs help with some every day things because her mobility is limited, she also needs intellectual and environmental stimulation because she is an extraordinary woman. She is so incredibly happy at this facility. The people that work here are amazing and extremely patient and helpful. There are several places to eat within the facility. The facility is located in a beautiful area surrounded by trees and nature. It has a very pleasant feeling to it without feeling like a facility. It is homey and comfortable. There are many activities within the facility that are planned for the residents including clubs, fitness center, games, movies, etc. There is even a library, which she enjoys going to frequently. There are also extra rooms that can be rented for short stays for visitors. I found this extremely helpful because when our entire family visited, we could stay right in the facility without disrupting her routine so much. I highly recommend this facility, despite the fact that is is a bit costly.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My experience with Beaumont at Bryn Mawr has been first class and five star. The sprawling grounds and beautiful facilities are spectacular. When my grandmother moved there I was surprised at how many of my parents' friends had retired and were living in this vibrant yet relaxed community. The activities are plentiful and varied for residents of all abilities. There lectures, social events, entertainment and physical activities. The staff is professional, compassionate and experience with both end-of-life and rehabilitation issues. The doctors are knowledgeable and accessible and the nursing staff is very attentive. The facilities are very beautiful and exceptionally clean. The food is excellent and there are a wide variety of choices. The restaurants are so good hat I joined my family members there several times a week.WHile recovering from major back surgery my father wanted to go home but the surgeon recommended Beaumont. He immediately took to the environment and loved the service and ease of access to physical therapy. He thrived and recovered very quickly.Altogether, I can not imagine a better facility.
