I'm in assisted living at Aventura at Humility House. I like having the community, like the folks and the friends that you gain here. I have their bigger studio, and I love it. I think it's beautiful. It's comfortable. You don't feel cramped. They also have smaller units that I couldn't deal with, but the bigger units are wonderful. In our apartment we have our own little kitchenette, and big bathroom too. They have a dining room, but the food is horrible. That's one of the reasons I'm moving. Everybody hates the food here. There's complaints every day. They have had people move in and move back out the very next day because of the food. They don't have any special diets, like diabetes diets or low salt diets. As for activities, I don't really do any of the events because they do them down in the nursing home area. I just can't handle the elderly people that are in wheelchairs, or even in beds, that are just doing so poorly. Personally, I can't handle it. It's too hard on me. However, they offer a lot of activities down there. There are arts and crafts type things, and movies with popcorn. The other day they had a pizza day for the people, and they had dancing another day. They do try to keep us busy. Some of the staff members are wonderful. However, another reason I'm leaving is because some of them were so mean to me. All they do for me is one load of laundry a week. They clean my bathroom, and they mop my kitchen floor and my bathroom floor, and for that, I'm paying $1,700. For me, it's not worth the money at all. However, for people who eat the food, get help with showers, have a couple of loads of laundry a week, and need their beds changed and all that, it's probably worth it for them.

I was very happy with the care and compassion shown to my mother while she was a resident there.

I have a hard time understanding why a resident: 1) should eat cold spaghetti and meatballs or any meal that is normally served hot, and be told that that is the way it is. 2) should have to sit in his/her waste, most often for more than an hour. 3) should have to sit in a chair for 8 - 10 hrs at a time. If the Facility is having trouble staffing, then they should accept fewer residents. These residents are people, not rats! Whether the staff likes the resident or not, that resident should be treated with respect and dignity, fed (3) decent meals every day, given a bit of exercise if they are able to do SOMETHING. The biggest complaint I hear from Staff is "We don't get no respect!" My response: Why should you when you treat the residents like a piece of garbage someone left in the room? Maybe management needs to spend some time in the Facility, incognito, to see what it is really like. Some of the other folks with relatives in this Facility have stated that they are looking into contacting the State of Ohio to lodge complaints. I think it would be good to get on the stick before the State gets involved.

My mother is in Humility House, and we are happy. The rooms are beautiful, well-furnished, modern, and clean. My mother cannot attend a lot of activities, but she goes to some mass and music thing.

I walked in the door and a woman greeted me very rudely and she said "we will have a room soon, but they are not for you", and she turned around and walked away.
