Nursing Home Communities in Waupaca, WI

"We've chosen Bethany Home - Heartwood for my dad because they've been around for 125 years and they are a full senior living campus. And then if you're a member or a resident on campus, you have priority admission over people from outside. As he needs more care, he can just advance to whatever level of care is appropriate for him. He is currently on the CBRF assisted living side. The place is nice but it needs updating. I've tried their food and it's really good. They have activities going on all the time. They have individual entity activities. Recently, they did pumpkin decorating. And then they also do whole campus activities. Every Friday, they have a campus-wide bingo game. When the Olympics were on TV, they had different entities competing against each other in the Bethany Olympics. It's just cool."

"I had an in-person tour of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The rooms were sufficient. They just built a new wing called Moses, but it was full. It's an older facility, but it's large. There were a lot of veterans. It was just very military-oriented, with a lot of military pictures. It has a beautiful setting. Everything was good. The staff was very compassionate and nice. They had a bowling alley in their facility. There's a big restaurant that families can go to where you pay and sit by a lake. They had a big library. They had activities like bingo games."

"This facility was overall very clean and efficient. There was a community computer in the lobby internet access for the residents. I thought that was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful for the most part. It seemed a bit understaffed which may explain why some staff weren't as friendly. There didn't appear to be much to do but I did notice there was a hair stylist on site on certain days. The food wasn't too bad from what I saw but I never had an opportunity to taste it. The only real complaint I had was that my Aunt was a smoker and smoking wasn't permitted anywhere on the property. I felt that residents should be able to smoke if they wanted to. The outside grounds weren't as nice as they could be. There was weeds growing in places and the lawn needed to be mowed. Housekeeping did a pretty good job of keeping rooms clean, sanitized and neat. Privacy was what was to be expected for a nursing home but it was nice to see that staff would knock before entering a closed door to a private room. There did seem to be a lack of communication between the doctors and nurses and I didn't once see an actual doctor any time I visited. I got the impression that all caretaking by doctors was done via the phone or internet. The cafeteria was cheerful and pleasant. There was no security alarms on any of the doors that I was aware of. I thought this was slightly dangerous as there were residents with dimentia that could have wandered outside without staff being aware. I would suggest this would be changed. The CNA's seemed to be the shining stars of this facility. They always had a smile on their faces making everyone feel welcome and at home which is awesome considering how depressing living in a facility can be. Overall I was pleased with this nursing home. "

"I stayed at Crossroads Care Center of Weyauwega (Weyauwega Health Care) Center for respite for a couple of days. It's a very nice and welcoming facility and it's very pretty inside. The staff is very good."

"My mother got a one bedroom apartment with a patio at Lola Living Assistance. She chose it because it was inexpensive. It was a one-level apartment in a nice wood setting. It had a really peaceful atmosphere. The residents seemed happy at the facility. The staff watched over them all the time. I would highly recommend this place to others. "

"We found my mom a place, and we got her into St. Joseph Residence. They proved to be a much better fit for us. They pay more attention to details. There's better communication among the staff. The food is good. People were sitting around playing cards, putting puzzles together, or looking at the tropical birds. We've got a very positive experience so far."
