The Best Nursing Home Communities in Fairfax City County, VA

"I have very high regard for The Virginian. My wife stayed in their skilled nursing facility for about 50 days. The service was good and the meals were terrific. They fed my wife along with the other residents of the skilled nursing facility the same menu as the residents who were fed on independent living and assisted living areas of the facility. The staff was outstanding. They published a calendar of activities and brought them to my wife's attention, but there was no interest. The pricing seemed to be not that bad compared to other senior facilities. I would rank them very highly on the cost side. Given the pricing information on what it would cost, it seemed competitively pretty good. A woman by the name of Lorna, who manages one of the wings of the skilled nursing facility, went out of her way on the day of my wife's discharge from the hospital. This lady kept her office open till about 7:15 in the evening to ensure that my wife could be fully checked in. But that was just one of many, many five-star things that the skilled nursing facility did for my wife while she was there."

"I was in long-term care at Manorcare. Their care was very good. The aides were indifferent, but the nurses were great. The physical therapists worked hard, but their equipment wasn't up-to-date, they didn't have enough of this, and they didn't have enough of that, so the physical equipment to work with was very bad. The rooms were OK and large, but the bathrooms were not very clean, which bothered me while I was there. They cleaned several times a day, but there was always trash on the floor. Their care was good, and their food was pretty good too."

"My brother is at Burke Health & Rehabilitation Center. The care seems good. They seemed to be attentive. The food is OK. The OT and PT are very good. They seem to be adequately staffed, which is something that's kind of unusual in the rehab facilities that we've been in in the past. I can generally find somebody and they come in pretty quickly. It seems to be older, but it's clean."

"We are very happy with Heatherwood Retirement. My father has a very nice one-bedroom apartment there and he has three meals. There’s lot of activities, and the place is very clean. The staff is very cordial, nice, and respectful. My dad isn’t 100% happy because he has to leave his house. Overall, of the few places that we looked at, we liked this one best. It’s nice there and so far, we have been very happy. "

"We moved my mother at Iliff Nursing Home and Rehab last November. She is in the nursing wing but she has been there for rehab before. It's very close to home. The staff is wonderful. I feel like I have good rapport with them. The rooms are double but some are quadruple occupancy too. There's a curtain in the rooms for privacy. Food is not great but there's plenty of it. You have the opportunity to select your menu with fairly extensive choices. They have programs but my mom doesn’t participate in them so I can't tell what they are. "

"My friend is in Dulles Health & Rehab Center. The place is very, very clean. This is probably the cleanest one that I've been to. The people are very nice. It's very easy to get around the space. I've only been there once, but my first impression was it's very a nice place. The staff members are very attentive. My friend wanted to walk to his room, and one of the girls noticed that it was still a long walk, so she came with a wheelchair, which he appreciated. He arrived just after dinner, so they made sure they grabbed him dinner so he could have something to eat as well. They were just very attentive and right there, as soon as you walked in, you were greeted by a nice gentleman right up front. I saw a rehab room, it was very spacious, and it had a lot of rehab equipment in it. The building itself is very nice. They have wide open spaces which I find to be nice. It is in a nice setting. The back window opens right in the back, so you can see the trees and the little park area, so it's nice."

"My father was at leewood day care center about a year ago. He had gotten sick to where I felt he needed to be watch 24/7 and I was not longer able to stay home with him. To be honest I didn't feel right placing him into a home full time but I did need someone to watch him during the day. Leewood was close and to my job so it was easy to drop him off and pick him up day to day. He was able to interact with other people his age and from what I seen it they had some nice games for the older folks to play. He seemed to enjoy it, of course he'll rather I be with him but being that I had to work he understood. I would recommed leewood, the staff is friendly and communicated well if I had any question's or concerns. "

"I am the POA of a friend in my housing community and I had to make a decision on where I should send her for several months. Golden Living was the only place that went over her treatment plan, the goals they had for her and the outcomes they gave me on a monthly basis. I agree with the rest of the reviews that the building could use a nice lift me up but the nursing staff that is available around the clock is the best, they truely enjoy their job and want to see the residents happy! I love the activities they plan daily for the residents, keeps them engaged!! "

"Greenspring was fine. It’s a huge facility. Anything you want to do, they will accommodate. They have lots to do and lots of transportation facilities. It is just a huge place. Like I said Greenspring was a huge facility, and we were walking to see one of the units. You’re walking down this long hallway; it’s a big place. It is many buildings, and they’re all inter-connected, so that you never have to go outside. You can go and visit everybody, and I don’t know how many hundred rooms they have there. But they’re all inter-connected, and they have this long hallway that goes down to a center hub. We were there around dinner time. We were walking to see this unit, and there was a stream of people, one after the other, either walking or in wheelchairs, using walkers or something like that on their way to eat. And it was just enough for me such that as great a place as this is, it just wasn’t for us. I just decided that I’d rather just take care of my wife in our home. "

"Mom is in Greenspring and the facility is updated and clean. She's receiving very good care. She's having physical and occupational therapy. They all have private rooms and the food is very good. "

"Birmingham Green was a very nice facility. I was pleasantly surprised when I went there. The staff was very friendly and even the residents seemed more lively, which was a vast improvement over some of the other places that I've been to. Overall, I felt like it was going to be a good fit for my grandfather. Not only do they do skilled nursing, but they also have memory care. If someone goes to them for nursing but then they have to go into memory care, it's nice that they can stay in the same facility. Most of the rooms are shared. There are a handful of private rooms and those are generally first come first serve, or if there's a sudden kind of medical necessity for someone to have their own room. They were nice and pretty safe. They have cooking classes, art activities, movies, groups like choruses come in, and they have a dog that lives there. I looked at the menu and it seemed decent."

"My father was in Arleigh Burke Pavilion for rehab. The community was very nice, and the care that my father received was very good. The staff was attentive, it's a nice place and very clean. It's a good community and I personally have no complaints. There were some lapses in communication and stuff, but that's to be expected sometimes. There were some times when my sister didn't get any information she needed. The coordination between doctor's offices and financials could have been communicated better, but we're unsure if it's solely because of Arleigh Burke Pavilion or the doctor's office or a combination. Overall, it's a very nice community and they seemed competent. Dad had a very nice room, it was very functional and very pleasant compared to other places. It was non-sterile compared to some other communities I have visited which were like hospital rooms, his was a little more comfortable appearing and more home-like."

"Annaburg Manor is a wonderful nursing home. They offer many different accommodations depending on the severity of the needs of the individual. The staff is friendly and the facilities are clean. It seems that they have many of activities such as bingo and ice cream socials. Manassas is a great little city to live in. There are many opportunities for people to leave and become active in the community. Additionally if family members came to visit, there are places to stay and to eat in downtown Manassas which is a short walk from Annaburg Manor. Annaburg Manor is also a relatively small nursing home, which means that you or your family member will not get lost in the crowd. There will be plenty of people to look out for them and make sure that their needs are attended to. When visiting the rooms, the people living there seem very comfortable and happy. I think anyone would be happy living there or having one of their family members live there. "

"My mother is in Carlin Springs Health & Rehabilitation in Arlington. The nursing staff is very attentive, and they've been very proactive about communication. I have very high marks for the staff. It's an older facility, but they got a lot of stuff that they've done to make it capable of being a memory care facility. It's a single room, single bed, and it's a good size for one person. They have an activities director who's actively trying to get my mother engaged in things all the time. I know they've been trying to get her involved in music, in going to church, and in other interactions with other patients. They gave me a list of all the things they are trying to get her into."
