Nursing Home Communities in Arvin, CA

"I had an in-person tour of Brookdale Riverwalk last year. I had a friend staying there. I will say that Brookdale is the number one facility in Bakersfield, and honestly, it's a five-star all the way. They treat you well there. The place is beautiful inside. If I had to pick a place in Bakersfield to put my sister, that would be the place, but it's out of our budget range, and it's very expensive. It's a very, very nice, beautiful facility. It's in a very good neighborhood. The food is fantastic. I've eaten there; it's a five-star. Everybody there was just super nice. It's the best facility. I would go here if I could afford for me to stay here. They have a beauty salon, and they provide transportation, but I don't know what the cost is. They have an excellent menu for the meals. You pick your meals over there. It's a nice place. I have nothing bad to say about this place."

"My brother is at Arvin Post Acute. The place is clean and has physical therapists and occupational therapists right there at the center. He also likes the food. However, we really had a rocky start with the staff. He was hospitalized twice in the first week he was there. They were not on top of his needs for his diabetes, and part of it, I believe, is the nursing staff, and part of it is probably the doctor's response. It just took a few weeks to get the nurses to understand what his needs were and to accommodate them. It kind of feels like there was a lack of experience with the nursing staff. My brother can at least advocate for himself, although sometimes he can't. I am not sure about how they navigate when a patient can't advocate for themselves and state what their needs are. It's just kind of concerning that we probably need more hands on deck there. I don't know the experience extent of the staff, but it kind of felt like it was more of a training ground. The nursing station is centrally located, so all of the hallways are right there. I like that they have physical therapy on-site. They also provide my brother with transportation for his dialysis, which is only just two minutes away from the facility. We've had some problems with that one time when he had to wait about two hours for his ride to get back to the nursing home. One time, one of the nurses also had to wheel him there in his wheelchair because there was no transportation, so that's kind of iffy. We can't really depend on it 100%."

"The patient care staff at Evergreen really seemed to care about the residents, whether the residents were actually able to communicate or not. The facility was always clean. My grandmother was a resident for a couple of years, and she never had any sores or wounds. She did have a couple of falls and two escapes out the fire door. That was a little scary. My grandfather received loving care there in his final days. He was comfortable and aware until the end. We were at peace with his decision to spend his final days there. "

"My mom is now in the Kern Rehabilitation Center. We transfered her there because she has more family in Bakersfield. It is an older facility. The staff is very willing and kind, but there is still the issue of slower response time like in the previous facility she was in. "
