"The room at Fair Haven compared to what she has now is a bigger room. It was just one room with bathroom. They served all the meals in the dining room, and it was fine. The sanitation was adequate. It was a larger facility, and the people were friendly and nice. They do have schedule of activities. "

"My friend is at the Aspire Nursing Home (Aspire Physical Recovery Center). It's brand new, and they serve 3 main meals. The staff is helpful. The place is very clean. They provide rehab, long-term, skilled care, and memory care. I think they have a wide range of care if you can afford it."

"2nd floor Shoals staff were so very helpful. They were caring and made sure my mom was taken care of. Betty J., Justin S., Maggie W., and Desiree. She was in rehab twice at Aspire Cahaba. Thank u ladies! Would recommend. The balcony on that floor needs a trashcan and good cleaning!!! Some of the furniture has seen better days. Recliners are extremely hard for older folks to use."

"St. Martin’s-in-the-Pines provides everything for mom, like medical care, food, bathing, and has a doctor and nurses on-staff. I think it’s real good care, and we are very pleased. I like the setup of the cottages, which are more like homes. They have a great area with the kitchen open, and you can see every bedroom from that area. There’s 10 bedrooms per floor. They all can come out into the main living area and eat together in the dining area where they cook the meals. "

"I was impressed with Blue Ridge Healthcare Birmingham (Fairview Health and Rehab). It was very clean and there was no smell or odor. The staff was very nice, explained things, and was very courteous. She took us to the physical therapy area. Everything was in place. The clients all seemed clean and dressed."

"I moved a parent into this facility a few months ago and was pleased with the care she received during her stay. Unfortunately it was a short stay but I was very impressed with the care she received. Any issues that arose were communicated to me immediately. Personnel were all great to work with and always felt they took good care of her."

"I did not like the Birmingham Nursing and Rehab Center. It has good therapists that I got to work with, and they were very helpful. I was told that I would be able to shower, and that did not happen. They did not let me do that. I had to have a sponge bath everyday for 19 days, and I did not like it. They had a sheet of paper with all the activities planned out for the whole month. They had choirs and bands come in to play for the residents. "

"We chose Cherry Hill for my mom because it had a high rating as far as Medicaid state ratings. It's clean and not too large. It always smells good. The people are friendly and the care they give so far has been pretty good. My mom is in a semi-private room. It has two beds, a place for clothing, a night stand, and a TV. The food seems to be okay. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's about an 8. I really like Cherry Hill's caregivers, occupational therapists and doctors. The facility is also closest to a hospital that I could find so far. They can improve on following-up with doctors orders. If the orders came from the day shift, the night shift staff didn't know about it. If they only just followed-up on orders and made sure every shift was doing the same thing. For example, my mother was supposed to get up off the bed once a day. When I came back, I found that she was on the bed all day and another shift didn't know about it. "

"My wife was at Diversicare of Riverchase for rehab. It was very thorough, very efficient, and treated very well. The communication was outstanding. They did everything they could to help her as well. It's an extensive one-level facility that has a very similar setup with various wings based on the level of need of the resident. She had a shared room."

"My mother has been over at North Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past eight weeks. They do a real good job over there. They give very good care and they're assisting us the way we need it. The rooms are just average, not anything fancy. There are no telephones in the rooms. We had to buy a television for her. They wash her clothes when she changes, they give her a shower, they feed her every day, and she has therapy every day. It's very expensive."

"I was very impressed with Oaks on Parkwood. They had six or seven buildings that housed so many apartments. They had little individual dining rooms for each building where they can do things that just involve their building, and then they had the big overall dining room. They had a special breakfast on Wednesdays for everybody in the complex and Bible study afterwards. They had an exercise room, an activity room, a fitness center, and an indoor swimming pool."
