My mom fell and broke her neck. She went into the hospital and I got her in a rehab center now. She is now in Universal Health Care. They're very nice. They do a good job. They keep me well informed; they have been calling me. The staff members are very nice and very helpful. It's a very nice facility. She likes the food, too. I haven't been inside because the first two weeks they locked down for COVID. The facility is very nice, well kept, and clean.

I've been happy with all the employees that work there from, the person at the front desk, to the care givers, nurses, and cleaning personal. The food is (OK) but not able to be distributed at a reasonable time because of staffing, which results in cold food. There Are NO ACTIVITIES at this facility which is a crucial part of rehab and Well Being!!! My understanding of the situation is, the activities director was let go months ago and the assistant left a week prior. I didn't understand why a replacement wasn't on hand before this was done!! I understand the effects Covid has created, however, other personal could be trained, administration personal could step up, volunteers could be sought!! I for one, volunteered months ago, filled out a 10 page application, was approved ( I'm told ) ,started soon after under the guidance of the ( then activities director) until her departure. Distraught over the incompetence of the " powers to be " ..

I was "not satisfied" with the verbal response of my relative's care so I put it in writing via a Grievance and mailed it Certified Mail. Thank GOD I did that because I have a record of when it was delivered. My relative was miserable and did not get the healthcare she should have. I would NOT recommend this facility

I spent a little over 3 weeks at the facility after my surgery. I was welcomed by all the staff and felt I was around good people. Everyday I received therapy from great therapist. Brandon helped me get stronger and was always smiling. I would recommend this facility if you need rehabilitation.

My husband was at Universal following discharge from the hospital. We will never use them again. The nursing care was not satisfactory from several of the CNA and nurses. We reported some of the problems at a discharge meeting. One of them came into his room at night & whispered to him that she loved him while rubbing his bottom. They tried to give him narcotics for sleep when I had specifically told them not to because of other medications that he is taking. When he needed help to get to the restroom he was ridiculed by a night nurse/aide. His roommate also said there were problems with the staff, but he refused to give me details, possibly because of fear of repercussions. The food there is not good, my husband normally has a good appetite and he would maybe eat half of the food. I saw a woman go up to the nurse's station wanting help & she was completely ignored. There are residents in the hall that look like they have been overmedicated --- they are depressed and doped looking. The nurses are socializing at the nurses station or reading and when I went up to the nurse's station for help, I had to wait a long time before getting anyone's attention -- the residents have even more of a problem with this. We also had problems getting records from this facility faxed to the medical office used by my husband and it was only when I threatened to the administrator that I would be reporting them to the state that they finally agreed after several days of requests from me and the medical office that the records were finally sent. We absolutely will never use them again.

My grandfather stayed at Universal Health Care for a month. As far as the look of it, it was very beautiful. They did a very good job. They provided physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing care. They also had speech therapy, but he didn't need any of that. He was pleased with the food.

Sept, Nov 2015: Care quality depends of which staff are servicing your wing. The range is excellent to appalling. On both respite care visits it needed doctor intervention to ease major issues. The 2nd visit was horrible ... medications not administered, some meds did not return home, pills in bottles that should have been empty. Nurse would have given 2 of one pill if I had not been there ... oh "I did not notice that" ... shameful. When I asked if there were any changes to meds that I should know about on discharge, they said "no" when actually 2 RXs had been added and not given to Mom. On the 2nd visit they did not assist Mom (age 95) with clothes or bathing until Doctor requested assistance. Yes, I told the nurse and admittance that she needs more help this time. She gets confused because same room, different bed, a roommate, different drawers and even with name on drawers was hesitant to open them. Simple courtesy and understanding would have gone a long way for Mom. She felt picked on and very unhappy ... never again. Advice ... visit often and demand action before it gets out of hand. Bells do go unanswered as staff lounge in dining area chatting. Management needs to drop in more often, independent inspections, cameras, and make "book" on certain staff so they can fire them without a reference. If patient is unhappy there is a reason. They went out of their way to make things difficult for Mom. Yes, I told management after Mom came home. Mom refuses to ever go there again. Beware ... nice place but someone needs to address certain staff members. Oh ... staff also felt free to use Mom's "new pull-ups" (I paid for) for her roommate as if it were their right to do so. Sad, very bad experience! Shame I had hoped to use them for long term care ... not even a consideration now. Quality care is not there for everyone.

My husband is at Universal Healthcare. This was the one that had a bed at that time when we were looking so we chose this facility. He is really doing well, and everything is wonderful.

My grandfather was placed in this facility as he needed around the clock nursing care due to a diagnosis of cancer. We knew when he was placed that he did not have long to live. Although he was only at the facility for 4 days, the staff was outstanding! They promptly responded to his needs, as well as the need of his wife and daughters. They made every effort to keep him comfortable, and constantly offered to assist the family in any way that they could. They prayed with my family and showed great empathy when he passed. I would recommend this facility to anyone in need of compassionate and loving assistance.

My mother was recently in this facility. She was at brunswick hospital because she was not able to stay wake. After 10 days in the hospital and still no answers from the doctors she was moved to this facility for rehab. My mother was given outstanding care. She has some memory impairment and blood sugar issues. The nurse at universal were on top of their game, they took care of her so well. During her stay at this facility my mother was not in need of anything. She rang her call bell and it was answered. she needed assistance she got it, she had questions about her medication or treatments and she got answers. If, lord fobid my mother has to be placed in a facility again, she will go back to universal health care of brunswick.

I came to visit my grandfather at this facility. He was on contact isolation which required gowns, gloves and mask. On my first visit his floor nurse stated we didnt have to take any precautions it was ok to enter the room without gowns, gloves, or mask. On that same day we I arrived I found my grandfather at a side chair with his bell ringing and he was yelling someone please help me to the toliet. No one showed up for 20 mins and then when they did, they had to get the universal precautions because the previous shift had not re stocked the universal precaution station out side his room. On the following day I arrived and the scent of poo was the first smell when you entered the building. The smell was coming from my grandfathers room. We I got to his room, yet again his bell was ringing and he had a pooy diaper on. Yet again we had to chase someone down to get him cleaned up. My aunt (who had POA) told us that my grandfather had a contagious bowel disease which is caught in nursing homes. So I googled the information, and it is required for the room to be sanitized with bleach to kill the bacteria. Activia is recommended to get good bacteria in his bowels. It can dehydrate you. So the next day the troops showed up to sanitize my grandfathers room. We wiped everything down with clorex wipes, stripped the bedding and sanitized the bed, wheelchair, and the charge nursing got upset. She got the head house keeping supervisor down to his room and had the staff disinfect my grandfathers room. Not to mention I request the floor be mopped, it was sticky and there was a brown spot on the floor. On the same day we showed up to sanitize the room the floor still hadnt been mopped. The housekeeping staff stated the floor needed stripped and rewaxed. They stated they would strip the floor and rewax it on Monday. We on Monday my aunt showed up to find my grandfather covered in poo from head to toe. His bed sheet werecovered in poo. His urine bag had leaked all over the floor under the bed. It took 30 mins for anyone to show up and get my grandfather cleaned up. The CNA who had been helping us, was told not to go and clean up my grandfather until she worked her way to his room. Do not make a special trip to his room. For a 90 bed facility on Tuesday there was only 3 CNA working. Oh, and they tried to give my grandfathers dinner away on the second day. If we hadnt been there he would not have ate. This facility needs to be closed!

Universal Healthcare is an excellent facility. My mother was there for recovery from her hip surgery and we could not hae asked for a better experience. The administration was excellent and the nursing care superior !
