"I visited the Hampshire House but they won't take my mom because she's on hospice. The place is wonderful and it would have been a perfect fit for her. The staff was friendly, and the rooms were clean. The residents that live there all seemed happy and engaged. They have some empty rooms and the laundry is not group laundry. They take and collect your laundry, do it and fold it, and bring it back to you so you don't lose your clothes and socks. It's kind of like a home there, it's wonderful. They were bought out, I forgot how many months ago by a different organization and they've been thriving ever since. I think they can have 60 residents and they have 53 right now, so they're doing very well. The ones they have were not apartments, they're rooms with a shared bathroom. They also have rooms where you can have a roommate. They have an activity room and a pool, although I don't know if it's up and running. They have beauticians and haircutters come in, too. They have all sorts of activities scheduled and take them on bus trips. It's all very nice. The person who assisted me was very friendly and very willing to answer any questions. In the end, we also talked to the assistant director, who finally told us they couldn't take hospice patients because they didn't have a dedicated area or enough staff. At night, they only have two staff on to take care of the 53 people there. I didn't try the food, but I saw the menus and they have two alternatives. They have the main menu and if that's not what you want, they have an alternative that you can have. If they serve a hot breakfast, you can also have a cold cereal if you don't want that. They feed them all day long. At 10:00, there's a coffee break. They also have a gathering in the dining room or the sitting rooms where they have tea and cookies in the afternoon and before bed. They feed them really well. Nobody was fat and rolling down the hall by any means, but they all were either out reading the paper, putting a puzzle together, or playing cards. I would say the building itself probably needed some cheering up. They're painting and working on it, but it's not perfect yet. You have to walk up from the parking lot and come in through the double doors. There's a little incline you can drive up there and drop people off, but there's no parking at the top. The receptionist was just inside the door and then there was glass. You can't go straight into the building. You have to stop at the desk, then sign in and sign out, so the security and safety are very good too."
