I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law was at Ten Broeck Commons. It was a rehab place, but it also had some assisted care attached to it. It was fairly good, and the staff was fairly attentive. I would not describe it as being stellar, but it was OK. It was on one level and had a quad kind of thing in different locations for care. It was broken up in quadrants, with the nursing station in the middle, and they went out it in spokes. It was clean; they did a pretty good job with that. The food was not very good. There were a few rehab things that they had to do. They had a music room kind of thing for some people. To me, though, it looked like they were just watching TV all the time, which was a bit boring. I thought the price was a little high for the type of care, but it was OK.

This is the second time in three days that I have called my friend and I am NOT impressed. The first time she'd been waiting for help to be moved from her wheelchair to her bed for 2.5 HOURS!! She cannot move herself. Tonight, in her words, "I am not drinking enough water and I'm beginning to feel it." She sounded terrible. Does she, and other residents not ALWAYS have a pitcher in their rooms? While I truly sympathize with the staff shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, these are basic issues that need attention for a resident's safety.

Well when I first found out that my friend would now have to be admitted to a nursing home I was very skeptical that would adjust in such a positive way. I visit my friend on a daily basis at different times of the day. On all occasions I have been very impressed with the care and kindness of the staff. I was just there today and they had a wonderful celebration for fat Tuesday with a special dessert and a great singer and the people were having such a great time. You can see the people that work there are very genuine in there feelings for the residents. This is not the first time that I have enjoyed the activities. They have many activities that the residents can take part in every day if they care to, When I ask my friend how she is doing, she says I can't complain.. she's 94 and and been my friend for over 30 years. When I leave her it makes me feel so happy that she's happy and well taken care of. Is it perfect, well when you hit that age and there's a loving smile thats the closest you can get to perfect. Keep up the good work.

Care is good, could use more nursing staff. No Hospice! Why?

Ten Broeck is very clean. They have a great socializing program and great medical staff. There's a great memory care unit and program for specializing Alzheimer's and dementia patients. The staff is very helpful and nice. It's a shared room, and it's very clean and spacious and safe. Their dining room is clean and set up nicely, and the food is good. They have bingo, a lot of live shows, live sing-along music, magic shows, spelling club, art club, lots of painting clubs, coloring and drawing club, and they do dancing. They're very active.

I visited this facility

The facility is split into different branches. I visited the main common area, and one of the branches where a close friend/family member was staying. The hallways were clean and everything looked well organized. The room was standard for what I would assume; nothing really stood out or made me go "wow!" The food was better than I expected, at least what I saw of it. When she needed assistance, it was prompt and courteous. I think the nurse genuinely cared about her concerns which is nice to see. There were different activity areas that I could see, which seemed nice and inviting. If she were in better condition, I would have encouraged her to try them out. It was nice to see it functioning more as an apartment complex than a nursing home. I also noticed that a large number of the residents gathered in the common areas and seemed to enjoy each others company. The general feel of the facility was good.

Nice facility where people care about your love ones. Family environment, many activities for seniors to do, they just don't stay lock in the rooms doing nothing.
