Assisted Living Communities in Santa Fe, NM

"I toured Sierra Vista. It's more like the other facility. They don't divide it up. It's all one practical memory care, but a residential place. It's more like a home. Two men toured me, and they were very, very good. It was a very different place. I liked it very much. It's very homey, very small, and has shared rooms, which I wasn't thrilled about. Not all of them were shared rooms, but most of them were shared rooms: two rooms and a bathroom in between, in many cases. The residents were out. They looked clean. I liked it very much, except it was very expensive. They had a little courtyard with goats, chickens, and stuff like that. They planted tomatoes, and it was very lovely. It was an older house. It wasn't jazzy, but it was clean and had lovely paintings on the walls. The kitchen looked a little larger than your kitchen at home. It had kind of like picnic tables, but not picnic benches to sit in, and they sat in chairs. The residents were with staff, doing puzzles or having books open on tables. It's the one they use, those kitchen tables for different things. One lady I met said she does all the cooking, and they had snacks throughout the day. So, it looked like your own kitchen, where if you're sitting there eating, you're watching her cook. It's not in the back somewhere. So, I thought that was an interesting thing. The facility looks a little sleepy, but you could use a coat of paint in some of the rooms, and it was fine."

"I visited the assisted living section of Kingston Residence of Santa Fe. It seemed really nice, and they said they have lots of activities for the residents. They also have buses that take them to town to go shopping and stuff."

"My wife's mom stayed for 2 weeks there, she actually was in the final stage of emphysema. The owners personally built this fine facility.The bedrooms were well appointed, nice dressers, beds, closet space.Community living rooms large screen H.D. tv; comfortable couches, chairs, coffee tables as well a quiet areas for reading, writing letters. Bright,prosperous dining area right off the kitchen.All meal prep was readily visible to the folks, fresh crunchy salads, breakfast, lunch and dinner carefully prepared homestyle; just as a family. Windows set low to view the gardens, lawns, tree's, birdbaths and feeders. Vibrant, bi-lingual staff. Ample easy access parking.We were blessed to have had Mom stay at this competent and experienced facility. "

"My mother spent the last year of her life at El Castillo,which is a multi level facility in downtown Santa Fe. There are independent living units for purchase that give the owner the benefit of transitioning into either assisted living or full nursing care as needed. It is one of only three licensed nursing facilities in town and by far the best. this was essential my mother's case as her long term care insurance required a licensed facility. The important thing to know is that one does not need to buy a living unit to enter either assisted living or full nursing care. My mother was in a 200 plus bed nursing home outside of Detroit run by a huge hospital corp. It was adequate but the resident staff ratio was probably 1 to 8 or 10. El Castillo is more like 1 to 5 or 6. There are always two RNs on duty during the day and one at nite and the balance of the staff is highly trained and, unlike many homes I've visited, happy with their work. "

"The Legacy at Santa Fe was beautiful. The rooms had a huge bathroom and a lot more closet space. They had a very good way of knowing where the people are. They give you a watch that serves as your key entrance to your room and if you need some help, you just touch that button and they know exactly where you're at. They respond almost immediately. They have very good control over who comes and enters the building. So you can't leave the building without them knowing who's going out of the building. The only thing I didn't like was its location in Santa Fe. It was too far out of town for me. It's about ten miles from Middletown. The good thing about them though was not only do they do the laundry for your towels and sheets, but they do your laundry as well. They take people for an excursion every Wednesday and they also provide a ten-mile radius for transportation to doctor appointments or groceries. The staff was fantastic. Even though I have not selected them, they still call me, invite me to go to lunch, or just find out how I'm doing. They just can't do enough for you. I had a meal there and it was nutritious and good food."
