"I liked that The Terraces at Lawrence is close to me because I'm the one who would be visiting my sister there. We spoke to some people and they were very friendly, and helpful, and went out of their way to try to accommodate my interest and question. Linda gave me the tour and she was great. The rooms were fine and the dining area was attractive. I especially liked the chapel that was there. I didn't see many people, but it seemed pleasantly friendly. They have games and outings to go places and movies."

"I visited The Landing of Hamilton. They were just opening. We were able to do an in house visit because there were no residents in and they were booking people. It is an attractive place, although I would not necessarily look to use it as a memory care unit, just because it's a big facility. It's a nice facility, but again, for the most part, it was so big. The rooms, I thought, were a little smaller than what the other facility had. It was nice, but when I took a look at the price point, the memory care was a greater amount than what I was paying for mom. The room was slightly higher as well, but again, the problem I had with them was, they weren't open and I have been talking to them since August. When we did our onsite visit at the end of September, it still hadn't got their New Jersey certification yet. My goal was to get my mom into an assisted living facility by mid-October, I had no guarantee that she would be able to get in there in enough time. It was gorgeous, it was kept very well. Again, there was nobody there, they were just accepting applications for reservations. It was huge. It's a big place, had two floors, gorgeous place, brand new, and little bit more expensive. That was an option. I had a certain dollar amount, so I priced out how much it would cost over a period of time, as I planned a two and a half years of care based on the amount of fund that she had, and she would not have had enough fund to stay at The Landing, it would be less than two years. I talked to the sales person, unfortunately, there was no staff. The tours were done with the sales people and not necessarily the care givers or the program people. When we did the online tour and the online conversation with the other facility, not only was the sales person was on that call, but so as the director and also the program director. They had the chance to interact with mom so it wasn't just sale. We went to The Landing and they really weren't staffed up either. We didn't have the opportunity to talk to a director or any of the program managers or even the staff that was going to be available, because they hadn't been staffed up yet and they hadn't been occupied. They have indoor common areas. They isolate their type of care that they provide between floors as opposed to the other facility where they do it by wings. On the second floor and the first floor, they had separate dining. They also had the cooking facilities. It was a gorgeous place, very attractive, the problem being again, it was brand new, which also meant to me that it was going to take some time for them to get their act together. It would be a great place as a facility. It was clean, but it wasn't staffed. It was also the fact that for the first couple of months, as they started to ramp up their care facility, you'd end up running into the typical bugs on any company that does as a startup, or any facility that does a startup. The sales person that I talked to knew the pricing. She knew the facility and then they have a whole pamphlet area, but frankly, the price point is important, so as the rooms, the facility, and what they offer. I would rank them a four only because, I don't want to say it's brand new, but they're trying basically to sell a facility that had no history. Some questions couldn't be answered because stuff wasn't in place. I think it's a great place, but some of the rankings I also based on the price performance. Their community fee was relatively a problem right where it is, I just thought that their memory care increments were a lot higher from what they offer. It's tough to tell for that they offer, in terms of memory care because frankly, they had no history. When I calculated for mom, the memory care for The Landing would have cost her $1900 versus the $1200 she's paying at the other facility now."

"It is close to where we live and it would only take me about five minutes to get there from home thus the main reason why I chose this facility for my husband. The place is clean and everybody seemed to enjoy working there. His room is always clean and if he needs anything they were always there to clean it up. The staff cleans his room a couple times per day. The staff are very nice and are always there if he needed anything. They were always running in and seeing if everything was alright. If he pushes his button, they were there within a couple of minutes. They didn't let him wait. I love the food. It was very good. They had activities like sing along. They also had special people come in and do games with them and sing. They are really accommodating and my husband is well taken care of."

"Sunrise of Lower Makefield is the only place that accepted my aunt with the care that she needs. My aunt has moved in a month ago. They're willing to work with her. I haven't had any complaints. My aunt is really difficult, but with them, whatever is going on, they keep in touch with me. The place is small. Nevertheless, they give you your privacy, but if you need them, they're there, so that's a good thing. My aunt has the biggest room they have and she seems to like it. It looks like an apartment. I had their food, which was not the greatest. They do outings, arts and crafts, and games. My aunt is a difficult woman, so she doesn't like anything pretty much. However, what I have seen in the activity schedule looks good. It is just the fact that she is not into activities."

"Brookdale Florence seemed clean and like it would probably served our needs. I have nothing negative to say about it. The staff was very helpful and showed us around. It was a good visit. We saw three different room options that were a little smaller than I thought they might be, but they certainly would have been adequate. "

"Everything at Oxford Crossings was amazing. Carlen was extremely helpful and just had nothing but a ton of information for me, and it was all very helpful. The place was beautiful. The staff was amazing. The facilities were top-notch. It was a newer facility and had very high standards. The staff was just completely professional, very courteous, and very friendly. I was unable to sample a meal but they did show me a menu, and it seemed to be a rotating menu. They said special requests were also provided within reason, but it seemed like they go above and beyond for their residents. I was very impressed. I did meet the event coordinator, and she had a full list of activities."

"Legacy Gardens of Bristol is very nice. There's only 26 tenants in the whole place, so you know your residents are getting cared for because there's only a few people. So the ratio is awesome. They're very nice, I like them a lot, and I would highly recommend it. I love the staff, they're awesome. They're very nice, caring, and helpful. It's an awesome place, they take excellent care of my mother-in-law, and she seems happy there. So it's a win-win situation. I haven't eaten there, but she says that the food is good. It's clean, it's nice, even her hair and nails are neat. They have plenty of activities and stuff for them to do. They have movies, game nights, bingo, and they have music. You get a lot of value for the money and it's affordable. So it's definitely worth it. It's excellent care."

"I toured Holly House. The staff was very friendly. But we didn't like the fact that the room itself, didn't have any type of emergency in case a patient fell. My friend had to use his cell phone to contact the staff, which I didn't personally like, and neither did he. The staff who gave the tour was very friendly and very knowledgeable though. Overall, the place was pretty clean, a little outdated, but it was okay. We were given a tour of the dining area. The staff offered us something to eat but we declined. It looked like some of the residents that were eating were enjoying what they were having."

It was a private room and it was up-to-date and kept well. She ate in her room but she was happy with the food for sure. The staff was nice. The service was very good. It's just highly-priced."

"Brookdale Northampton has been wonderful. When I first went in, I noticed that it was very nicely situated, the way that they had everything. The furnishings did not look anything like places that I had been. It was very furnished and it was super clean. All the residents were sitting, chatting with each other out front, sitting at tables in the sun, which is something my mother-in-law loves to do. I was invited to go and see the dining room and people were still in there. I got to say hello, and ask them how their lunch or dinner was, and they all answered. It wasn't that old age environment. I saw the room and she's close to the elevator. She uses a walker, but she's close to the elevator and close to the dining room. They made everything the way I really want it; that is exactly what we had hoped for. They really worked with us pricewise. Financially, she can afford to go in there, but they broke everything down so that nothing's a surprise. I did not feel they were pushy or saying like, "You got to sign this." Nothing like that. She gave me a nice booklet that shows pictures, all their rates, everything was upfront. I didn't feel there was anything hidden about it, so I was very happy with that. They showed me their activity area and their craft area. They have like a main hotel or entertainment area, a little stage that they sit at every now and then. They have entertainment but they use it for other things. They have games and a beautiful library. She showed me at the end of each hall that there's a nice gathering place where at night people may sit and talk. There's a big TV, and in a couple of different areas they can watch the baseball game. That's the type of things I know my mother-in-law would like. I was very happy with everything that they showed. I think they were very open."

"I visited Oakwood Residence. My problem with that one was that I had macular degeneration, and they had an awful lot of wood paneling; that was not good for my eyes. The person who toured me around was the one in-charge of Oakwood, and he was very informative. They served us lunch. I had tour of the room, and the hallways had paneling. When I walked in, it was dark, and with my eyesight, I need more light. However, the people were wonderful. They were friendly. The food was good. They did everything they could to make us feel welcome. "

"My mother moved into Brookdale Monroe. It's a beautiful community. One of the many things that I like about it is that it's very nice-looking and welcoming. The staff is very hard working, and I'm happy with the services they provide. We have eaten there a couple of times before we picked them, and the food is very tasty. They had a beautiful holiday party a couple of weeks ago and had amazingly wonderful food for a large crowd of people. They have a number of activities, and every day they have something going on like bingo, movies, and things like that. It's my mom's choice whether she's joining in or not. They're doing a very nice job. It's a little pricey, but what can you do."
