My dad is currently in Keene Center for short-term rehab. I like the location. What I don't like is they're short-staffed. When I try to call their main desk, I rarely get somebody, even during the day. The communication there hasn't been good. I just learned that he had a direct line to his room. Maybe it's on me, but nobody ever said, "Can I give you his direct line?" The receptionist would hang up on you. It's just frustrating because you want to get a hold of your loved one and you can't. My dad doesn't have a cell phone. He has a memory issue, so we kind of depend on the old-fashioned way. They need some training and they need more staff. When I've been there, my father doesn't always have sheets and things and the place is dirty. They need more attention to detail, but I understand they're struggling with staff, every place is. He does not like the food. They have a library and he loves it. The facility is just average. I don't see anything special or anything extra. If we were to try to move him to long-term care, from my perspective, I would not stay in that facility. I will look elsewhere.

Do not send your family member here. The facility is understaffed and the care is subpar.

I was not happy with the nursing home the first time that I walked in to visit my elderly friend Gladys. The elevator was not working and the place in general seemed very unorganized and chaotic. There were extension cords running through the hall that were taped down with duct tape and the room that my friend was in had oxygen hose line on the floor that was always in the way when people were walking in. Although the place itself was not the most appealing the staff were amazing. They were very patient with my elderly friend and were compassionate towards her at all times. It was always nice to see them pop in just to say "hi" to my friend. My friend was not pleased with being in a nursing home; she didn't like her roommate and was not allowed to watch her TV since the roommate was always watching the one on her side of the room. She was unable to read since she was legally blind. She became unhappy with the food and the fact that she wasn't stimulated enough in this environment. Ultimately she left and chose to die in her house, she was fortunate enough to be able to hire nurses to take care of her.
