I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was admitted to the TCU after an amputation. The nursing team did a good job with his wounds and ensuring that he recovered. I knew my dad would need long-term care afterwards, and the social services team did a great job coordinating that and informing me of the process as I was not fully aware of how it worked. I’m happy my father is in good hands at Woodlyn Heights.

Do not send your loved one here! They are poorly staffed and managed. My father’s call light was rarely answered and he was not given help to bed or the bathroom. It smells of urine and the garbages in his room were never taken out. The clients just get shut in their rooms. The clients were not brought out of their rooms and I saw no attempts to provide socialization. The food was poor quality and he wasn’t provided water throughout the day. Room checks were not performed. After a week or so in the TCU he was in such bad shape, I checked him out and took him to the ER. He was immediately admitted with pneumonia, COVID,a bowel obstruction, and a skin infection. I am not sure he would have lasted another 24 hours there. Do not go there!

The new management team there has done a great job with the place. There is a lot of passion from the staff. Overall, my mother was well cared for.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have decided to stay here at Woodlyn Heights Senior Living for another year. The problem right now is the fact that we don't have many regular staff. We are getting new staff members. However, we're using a lot of pool employees and the care is not good. When you use pool people, there's no consistency in care levels. Basic care is good when you get a staff member. I have one of the larger rooms with just a sink and a toilet. There is no shower or bathtub in the room. It's very comfortable and I have a nice view out my window. We have bingo and bowling, and we have nail care. There are a considerable amount of activities that you can participate in. The food is usually quite tasty and sufficient for your diet. There's a variety, and the menu switches every three months. The place is very clean and every room is cleaned daily. Everything is very neat, and there is no odor. It is well-maintained. Maintenance usually comes within 24 hours of a request. Or if it's an urgent request, they come as soon as they are free.

Please do not send any of your loved ones to this facility. It is so bad I have no words. My mom was there for 5 hours and I took her out of there. So bad.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in the TCU in quarantine for two weeks. She needed PT to regain strength after surgery. The PT and OT were excellent. The rest was not. Her daily care was poor. Teeth weren’t brushed, face not washed for several days until we complained. Call lights took overly long to be answered. Fungal lotion that hospital had prescribed for a severe rash in private area wasn’t applied (we told them no less than SIX times about this before they finally started doing it and doing it correctly). My Mother asked for a brush or comb often and never received one. She finally got a brush on the last day! Her hair was so matted that she looked like a homeless person… The Nurse Practitioner saw her within two days of arrival at the TCU. She gave orders for a suppository to be administered. (My Mother had just had surgery for bowel obstruction so this was very important to her recovery.) Three days later the NP had again been in to see my Mother and never commented to us on the suppository order. We were able to “view” my Mother through her 1st floor window and talk to her over the phone. She told us about the suppository and that she still hadn’t received it. We went back inside to the Social Worker who called the NP back to ask why the order wasn’t followed. The NP was not aware and checked. Suppository was then given…. My question is, what in the world was the NP doing on the second visit if she wasn’t checking to see results of the order she had given 3 days earlier? How did she not know until we talked to her a second time? And why wasn’t her order followed on the day it was given? We spoke multiple times to the Social Worker AND the Director or Nursing. Nothing really improved….I understand that everywhere is understaffed, but they should NOT be accepting more patients than they can adequately care for. They were more concerned with getting all the paperwork signed to make sure the $400/day fee would be paid. Then they wanted me to sign a document stating I would not take them to court if anything happened that was their fault!!! I refused to sign. My Mother left that TCU a week ago. Currently she is at Woodwinds Hospital for a weakness issue. Their wound care team had to be called in to take care of the rash that was not properly cared for at Woodlyn Heights and is significantly worse than it was several weeks ago. The only reason I even gave this facility a one star is because of their excellent PT and OT people. They deserve 5 stars.

Food is simply not good. The facility’s record keeping for administering drugs and tracking anything is totally out of date. There are a few loving and caring staff that actually do their jobs and attend to those living there. It is simply unforgivable for required medications (especially for pain to not be given as directed by doctors. Also, completely wrong meds being given several different times; unforgivable! Call lights are seldom answered within a reasonable time. My family experienced WH for 3 years with my father, and again with my mother. I would NEVER put another person in this facility if it was the last place available.

My brother has lived in this facility for a year and a half. I am grateful for the kind and compassionate care he got. Sure the waits were long and communication, not the best, but these staff really cared about my brother. I am grateful for the staff and the residents. My brother gets to move out next week to resume his life and I couldn't be more proud! Thank you for caring about my brother as much as I do. Single rooms, with all the amenities he needed. Food always had alternatives, so one could eat what was pleasing to each resident.

I visited this facility

Megan, Charge nurse, told my Alert Dad to go back to his wifes room and stay there. Really, what happened to Respect of Elders. Megan Needs to write a letter of apology to the family and Dad for her rudeness. Thank goodness Cathi, DON, was available to talk sense into Megan. All the demonstrations at the State capital to Respect Elders and ask for raises for nurses and Megan Sets us back. Not good.

I’ve been in several places for transitional care and I wish I would have found this place first. I had a 10 out of 10 on my back pain and other places couldn’t manage it. I give Woodlyn Heights two thumbs up! The aides are super, the nurses and doctors are great. I get treated here with dignity and respect. Two thumbs up all the way!

call lights typically take 1/2hr to be answered. I don't know many people who can hold it that long. If you didn't have a problem staying dry before you will at this place. We saw patients left exposed without clothing on. Not a place to leave your loved ones.

My mother-in-law is at Woodlyn Heights. It is very clean. The people that work there are very nice, but they just do not have enough people on staff like most nursing homes. They need to have more people on staff, but as far as what I have seen, they do better than most others. She is in a private room, and the space is great. The food is really good, and their dining facility is very nice. They have bingo and crafts.

I think Woodlyn Heights Healthcare Center is average. My mother-in-law is now there. They have bingo, movies, and social things. The staff is fine and very pleasant. Her room is just like a typical nursing home room; it is just a bed. There is usually a shared bathroom. Overall, what I like most about this facility is its location.
