I visited Hastings Senior Health & Living to look at their independent living. The place seemed very friendly and open. They were getting ready for an event, so the people were gathering in the lobby area and it seemed like they were happy. It was also very nice, clean, and very nicely decorated. The person who assisted me was friendly but I thought she was a little absent-minded. The dining facility seemed small to me but it was also filled up with people who were getting ready for the event that day so I don't know for sure. They have entertainment that comes in frequently. Then, regularly, they have movies, arts and crafts, and things like that.

2023concerned

Most rooms are doubles and 2 rooms share bathroom. The furniture is very old and banged up. The food is questionable. Breakfasts are good, the main meal is lunch which over half the time is some kind of pasta dish. Supper is always soup with either a salad or sandwich and canned fruit. They don’t offer options. If the patients do not want what is being served they can get a plain dry sandwich. If a patient buzzes for assistance they usually wait 5-10 minutes . That can be a long time in some instances. My family member was given melatonin every night wether needed or not to sleep. The cost is ridiculous for the care and food. My family member had a serious fall that resulted in severe cuts on both arms that took weeks to heal. Also was injured on his back when the aid slipped in bathroom and ended up with big bruise in the middle of the back. The daily musing aids are great, the administration and nurses on staff are deceitful and aren’t always completely honest when questioned by concerned family members. Would not recommend this place unless total emergency.

Augustana Health Care Center was very nice. The nurses were very accommodating. The food was very good, and my husband liked it. A lot of times, he ate in his room, and the food was brought in to him. If we were there, we would go into the dining room and sit with him when he ate. I thought it was very spacious, and the people were really nice. It had lots of windows and lots of trees outside. He loved looking at the trees.
