The Best Memory Care Communities in Nelson County, VA

"The Retreat at Fishersville was a very nice facility. The tour was not as well as the one that we got at the other place. I was shown around the areas and stuff like that, but they didn't go into detail what they would do for their people that were staying there. It was like a quick tour, like, "Look around, this is what we got and what's available." The staff actually put me in the memory care because they had nothing available in assisted living. Everything was clean. I asked her if they had someplace where they could go out and walk, and she said that they would just take them out and walk around. They had a little grassed area. Overall, the facility was nice. She showed me a studio suite and a double occupancy where they could put two people in, and they were very nice rooms. It's a new building. They've built it within the last year. I was assuming that it would be nice, which it is. They have a barbershop to get their hair done, and she showed me the dining area, but that was really about it. The staff was very nice, polite, seemed like she cared, and respectful."

"I toured Birch Ridge. I like that it's small. I like the grounds. The man couldn't have been nicer to answer my questions. I've had a good experience. The facility was very clean. It probably needs to be modernized and updated. It has the feel of being old, but it was clean. The rooms are nice, but their common area, the furniture, it's old."

"I toured The Legacy at North Augusta. It had a one-bedroom apartment and a studio. It was a well-run home, a well-run facility. It would have taken care of everything that my sister needed, but the other facility, the view, was what sealed the deal. The sales director was very knowledgeable. She assured me that all of my sister's needs would be taken care of or come under consideration so that they could take care of everything with her. They know what they're doing, and they do it well. They cared about the residents. The upkeep is very well done, and the grounds are well-maintained. They had a few libraries, and I was impressed with them because they are decorated differently for different tastes and have different book selections."

"My husband of fifty-one years has a terminal brain disease. It was a wrench when it became clear that he could no longer be cared for at home. What to do? When we visited Brightview and got acquainted with the staff, the decision was easier. The associates are friendly and well trained. The executive staff takes a real interest in the residents, making their experience as positive and enjoyable as possible. My husband has a pleasant, spacious apartment that overlooks a wonderful sycamore tree and the entrance drive. The food is great as I can attest, having joined my husband for meals at times. I would recommend (and have recommended) Brightview to anyone looking for a loving, caring home for their loved ones."

"This place has brought life back to my mom and for that I am so appreciative. She now lives life with a purpose and consistently tells me how happy she is living at Linden House. The staff has helped her improve her personal challenges through physical therapy and memory tools. They also do a great job of including her in daily events which are fun and appropriate. Her apartment as well as the common areas are just lovely and the staff is friendly, quick to respond to concerns and truly caring. Highly recommend!"

"My mother-in-law chose The Blake at Charlottesville because she liked it best and it was very close to her church where she goes. They also offer a church there and a beauty shop. So, everything she needs is right there. She likes the food and she's eating very well. We had lunch there with her once and that was very good. The staff is all very personable and very friendly. The atmosphere is very open and bright. The place looks clean and very nice. They have tons of activities such as bingo, card games, movie nights, walking, exercise classes every day or every other day, and outings three times a week (if you want to go anywhere, you can take the shuttle bus). The director, the charge nurse, and all have been great. It's a good value for the money."

"Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is the cream of the crop. Everything is top of the line as far as very wide and beautiful architecture going from cottages of several different sizes to units within the building of many different sizes. They have physical therapists there. By paying the deposit to be in their Compass Club for future openings, you can eat there six times a year for free, use the facilities, and go on trips, but you have to pay the fee. That really gives you a chance to step inside and know what it's like to partake in the facility and what the residents and the staff are truly like on that basis more than just a tour. They had an indoor pool and you can take classes or use it for water therapy on your own. It looks out over the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Southwest Mountains. They have their own little shuttle bus that will take people during the week to shopping, etc. It's multilevel care, multilevel facilities, but it's not all in one building. It has a large campus area. If you need your meds only, they'll come in and do it. You have the standard fee and it's not going to be menu driven. Everything was great and the food was tremendous."

"I did a tour. The amenities were amazing, and the decor was above and beyond. I liked everything about it. The staff were nice; they did well at listening and understanding why I was there. They were great. They have a nightly happy hour, and a breakfast bar, like the cafe where they can come and get whatever they like. One of the main amenities that would interest me was the housekeeping once a week, because I feel like my godmother needs that. Their staff were very knowledgeable. I didn't have a meal there, but the menu looked great."
