"The studio room is relatively small; however, as it has turned out is plenty of space for our mom. My mother has been in the Memory Care area for 2 1/2 years. We are so very happy with her care and treatment. They all seem to care so much and do absolutely everything they can to please her and help her. Anything we call about or ask for help with - they are more than willing to help us. We feel very lucky that we were able to get our mom in at The Harrison. The food looks decent and it is a very sizable serving."

"We toured Meadow Lakes. They didn't accept the Medicaid waiver. It was a nice place, but my friend couldn't afford it. She doesn't need 24-hour care; she just needs an apartment environment. They have separate buildings that are very nice. They're single-level floors. The apartments were roomy. I can't complain about any of that. They looked nice and well updated. The staff members were friendly, too."

She received wonderful care from not only the nursing staff, but the people in the dining hall and the administrative staff. Although no place is perfect, I feel like she couldn’t have been in a better place. She was loved and treated with dignity and respect. "Individual rooms are spacious. Residents spend most of their time in the common areas enjoying a variety of activities. I loved the holiday celebrations, especially when I would see the videos. I remember one in particular when my mom was dancing with a staff member. The common areas are decorated lovely. Residents can move from one residential side to the other. Some residents like to walk and this allows them freedom of movement. The outdoor gardens provides many places to have family visits. I truly enjoyed visiting in the garden area. My mother lived there for 2 years. She arrived two days before the pandemic shutdown. Those were tough times for all but Grandbrook connected us through Facetime calls. That was so nice and thoughtful. The staff was always considerate and helpful. You could tell many loved my mom. I found Grandbrook to be a caring community with a heart!"

"Altenheim is very nice, and my in-laws are living there. They have a one-bedroom apartment that’s quite roomy and very nice. It was bigger than in a lot of other facilities. The staff is wonderful. They have different levels of care. They have dance every day, exercise class, and they do outings. The food is pretty nice; they have their basic full menu, but they also offer a separate menu as an alternative. They have four or five dining facilities, and you can go whichever one you want. They have about 32 acres of land area, including a walking path and a pond you can fish in. My in-laws feel very welcome and well cared for. "

"We toured Bickford of Greenwood. We love that. It was very nice, but it was over our price limit. We love the community. It was a single story, so we didn't have to worry about elevators or anything like that. It's probably a little bit older property, but it's very well-maintained. We were very impressed. When we walked in, there was a young girl, I think she's one of the granddaughters of one of the residents, and she was singing songs with the residents, and they seemed to be having a good time. It was very nice. I would be very comfortable with Mom living there and she probably would be, but the price was a little bit out of our price range. It felt like an apartment complex; it did not feel like assisted living. They have a square configuration, you have the hallways going around that, and everyone has an individual apartment. I kind of like that it's a little bit older building. It's kind of rustic. It's a wonderful facility."

"My mom has been in here. They've been wonderful. They've all been very compassionate, and they've treated Mom very well. I have no complaints. I have not eaten there. Mom has said it's not the best food, but I think she's just upset about being there and is not happy about the whole situation. She wants to come home. But I would say the food is adequate. The facility is very clean. It feels like an apartment complex. That's the highest rating I can give it; it does not feel like a nursing home or an assisted living care facility. When you walk in and go down the halls, it feels like an apartment complex. The amenities have been very good. They have a movie theater, they have a library, they have a workout room, and they have a hair salon. They have like a restaurant-style eating. I've been very impressed with the amenities. I would also say the activities are good."

"We toured Grand Brook Memory Care of Greenwood. It's beautiful. The apartment was fine. The staff who helped us during our tour were fine. It was good. They're friendly and very informative. We didn't have any of their food, but the dining area looked relaxed and inviting. It was nice that they weren't all sitting watching television. They were engaged."

"I toured Demaree Crossing. They've got like 46 rooms in their memory care, and some are private, and some are double residents. Even though it was larger, some people might like the bigger, more institutional feel. I still don't doubt that they did really good care in that area. They had a lot of amenities to offer, with sensory boards and sensory blankets. They have indoor gazebos where, if somebody was agitated or needed a quiet space, they did provide that. The staff seemed knowledgeable and they were very nice showing us around. We didn't sample the food, but we were coming in at the tail end of lunch and some of the residents were being assisted with the food. I liked that they said that to help stimulate appetite, they don't use white dishes. They feel that the colored plates stimulate appetite. They have an oven and bake muffins and bread out where the aroma will also help entice, which is a nice touch. The common area for memory care was another big open area. It had a kitchen area off to the side where, if people wanted to feel like sitting down at a kitchen table, they had the area to do that. They sometimes had dances, and they did have a piano if a resident wanted to play because some of them were nonverbal, yet they remembered how to play the piano and play beautifully. So, they do try to stimulate with sensory things. They had stuffed animals and dolls, and things that some of the residents really took comfort in. So, I thought that was a nice thing to do."
