My 67 year old younger sister was at the Royal for over three years. She had Alzheimer’s and her room was on the second floor. I can’t say enough about the care she received from all three shifts, they were great. She was always clean, hair combed in a pony tail, nicely dressed. The room she shared was always clean, bedding was kept clean. She was on a purée diet, due to her disease. She didn’t speak, but seemed to enjoy the music when staff would play CD’s for her. The nurses always kept me well informed about her needs, challenges, etc.. My father, siblings and I can’t say thank you enough to the staff for making her as comfortable as possible during her last days.

Often when I would visit my relative she was left alone and no one was making sure other residents weren't harrasing or harming her, her property and gifts would be taken by other patients and I even found another person sleeping in her bed who was from another room. More often than not she would sit waiting for her diaper to be changed and it was necessary to repeatedly ask when someone would assist her. In my experiences there, if the button was pressed for help, even in dire health situations, unfortunately an unacceptably long period of time would pass before anyone would bother to come in or even worse simply would not come into the room at all and so going to desk would be required sometimes numerous times. She suffered several severe injuries while living there, severely broken bones, bruises, broken nose, and I've never known how these injuries occurred, and is it extremely concerning, most definitely, no one wants to ever think of someone they love being either neglected or abused! Yes, they had sing alongs, parties, residents would dance, however that does not erase or excuse the other serious health related, quality of life issues and shortcomings. I'm sorry but no, due to what I personally witnessed and will always wonder about, I can not recommend this facility.

My wife is at Royal of Fairhaven. I live around the corner from it. My overall experience with them is excellent. The food is fine. They have entertainment during the week. They have some singers and dancers that come in. They have physical therapy. It seemed to be very well administered. My wife has a shared room, and it is very nice. I would recommend this facility to anyone. I think the care is very good. The people are very nice and caring.
