My mother and step father were residents at Waldron Place together for two years before my mother succumbed to a sudden illness and passed away. Let me first state that the staff were always extremely pleasant and helpful when I visited. However, it appeared in hindsight, that more attention could have been given to difficulties my mother was having with issues with my step father. Staff gave me my first indication when they told me when my mom was released from hospital they had a separate room for her to sleep in...I didn't know until then that she was finding his difficult blaming behaviour so tough she couldn't even sleep and had begged them to help her. It would have been helpful if they had been willing, or able, to assist her before she decided death was preferable over more time with constant negativity and criticism. I hope that the staff have now had more training in dealing with difficult elderly residents.

Waldron Place didn’t accommodate my aunt’s blindness, and her blindness doesn’t allow her to read a menu. They were informed that she was legally blind, and they made no accommodation to make sure that she got what she wanted to eat. Also every time I came in the place, it’s very uncomfortable for me to even come and visit because every time I walk through the door, I was being called into the office with another problem. The problem was that she doesn’t dress appropriately, she is a little odd, and I am thinking she is 90 years old. She had her first doctor’s appointment, and I had a cover letter to take with her list of medications to the physician. They basically diagnosed that she was depressed and prescribed anti-depressants, but when I asked the nurse if she had a doctor’s degree in psychiatry, she said “No.” I said I don’t want somebody making a diagnosis that don’t have the qualification. It was very expensive. The administration staff needs to learn how to dress in a more appropriate business attire. You are going to be paying a monthly, so you are expecting a certain degree of care. It’s just a different feel; it’s like there was no life to it. Plus, there was never any parking.

I think Waldron Place is a well-managed facility. I have a good friend whose mother is there and she is very pleased with the care that her mother is receiving. They seemed to be very kind and committed to their patients. The rooms were very tastefully decorated and they appeared to be pretty moderate sized.

I chose The Arbors at Waldron Place for my dad because it's a brand new facility. It's also a very nice place. His room is very beautiful. The staff is really good.
