"Marshall-Starke Development Center is a place where differently-abled individuals are able to work and live in apartments throughout the city of their choice. With over 100 wonderful people within the facility throughout the day, the people who work within this facility are the residents as well. The staff assists the residents or day-workers throughout the day as they do a "paid" job. The jobs are menial in nature, however the residents do get to socialize and work at their own pace. The staff are few and far between, however the night staff is a wonderful group of individuals. These staff members actually stay 24 hours a day within apartments/homes rented by the individuals. This is a really good place for differently-abled individuals to feel like they are worth something, so as to further their well being and self worth. I will continue to advocate Marshall-Starke to everyone who is looking for adult, handicapped assisted living/work place. "

"Miller Senior Living is a perfect fit for my mother. It is clean and over the top. The people are attentive and friendly. The food is outstanding. They are very responsive to any questions I have on the first month. They follow up; the housekeeping and the administration. They have all kinds of activities for them. They have bible study and exercise classes. They have people come in and read historical topics. It is only a mile from the hospital. "

"My mother has been in Miller's Merry Manor twice. She was there for a few months and left because she wanted to move back in the house, but then she ended up breaking her leg and she's been back in there since December of this past year. She's been there overall about a year. I would rate them very high. It's a beautiful facility. The staff is extremely caring and nice. I have eaten there a number of times and the food is excellent. The rooms are big. She's got a nice 1-bedroom apartment with a huge closet, a fullt appointed large bathroom with all the facilities that she needs as far as handrails and a sit-down shower. They monitor her three times a day. They have plenty of activities. I can't say enough nice things about this place. They're really great. They have weekly trips, they take them shopping, and they take them to plays and other activities in the community, which she does participate in. She's happy where she is."

"My mother was a resident at this home twice for therapy for a total of five months. The therapy department was VERY friendly, helpful, and supportive as they cajoled and got my mother back walking and able to return home. "

"Green Oaks of Valparaiso was spotless, and the people there were friendly. I liked the staff I talked to. They were very nice. I talked to a few people, and then we ate there. They gave us lunch, and it was good. Really, really good. So I would rate this community very highly. The staff who gave the tour was really nice and very informative. The rooms are beautiful. There are mostly one-bedroom apartments and studios. They have no two-bedroom. It's a fairly new place. It's only a couple of years old. The facility is really nice."

"My husband was in rehab at Golden LivingCenter - Valparaiso. They were wonderful. We thought my husband was going to pass away when he went there. They got him into rehab, and they got him walking again. He does have the onset of dementia, but that's improving a bit. The place is just immaculate. The service and the care they took of my husband, they just did a wonderful job with him. It's expensive. Anytime I called, they always took the time to talk to me because we live in Michigan City, and it was hard for us to get over there to see my husband. He got acquainted with the staff. They were very friendly and attentive. He was always neat and clean when we went to see him. They were excellent as far as the care that they gave him. He said the food was good. He was always happy with what they served. A lot was like the taste of home cooking, nothing out of a box. He was more or less in a locked community because of his Alzheimer's, so he didn't do many activities. They had a few things, like in the afternoon they would have popcorn and a movie, or they would do maybe some bingo or some arts and crafts. They did have activities."

"They were super nice at Miller's Health & Rehab, but my father really didn't like it there, and I don't blame him. I thought it was a little depressing because it is part of a hospital. It smelled like a hospital. He was there for a long time, and he was not happy there. He had a private room, and it was very small. When my sister and I would visit, it was crowded. They brought him food to his room like a hospital. He was just very lonely. He had physical rehab there which he did like, but it was in a room that wasn't very cheerful, but bright. His room was dark, clean, and didn't smell like urine. The staff were very nice. "

"Avalon Springs was very clean and newer. My mom was a patient there for a rehab and had excellent care there. The food looked good. They had different entertainment there that my mom enjoyed and different visiting musicians. They had a place where the girls did nails and a little movie area with popcorn and snacks. "

"My husband was at Avalon Springs Health Campus. He was there on two different occasions. It's a five all the way around. They were absolutely wonderful. The facility was very clean. Leadership was very involved. They don't close their eyes to anything. The chef was good, and the food was always hot. The dining room was wonderful, and there were tablecloths on the table every time the meals were served. They encourage the residents to participate in activities like happy hour on Fridays, they bring in great artists to entertain on Fridays, and they had Bingo on Wednesdays. The CNAs were just phenomenal. When you put your light on the maximum time you wait for them to take care of you was 10 minutes. I did not have to be there with my husband at all. I'd go every evening just to go and have dinner with him. They knew my desires, how I liked him to be taken care of, and it didn't take them long to learn them. They have assisted living, the rehab section, the memory care section, and long-term care."

"This is the second time my family member has stayed at the Willows, and we couldn’t be more grateful! After a stay at a more advanced rehab facility where she unfortunately experienced complications, we didn’t hesitate to send her back to the Willows—even though it meant an hour and a half drive sometimes! The only reason she left this time was because she wanted to be closer to her children, but honestly, I’ve had family members in other facilities, some with more advanced programs, and none compare to the Willows. From the moment you walk in, there’s never any foul odors—it’s always clean and fresh. But more than that, the people here truly care! They are genuinely concerned about the health and well-being of their residents, and their communication is outstanding. For anyone looking for a place to take a loved one, I can’t recommend the Willows in Valparaiso, Indiana enough. You all should be the standard for how nursing homes should operate. Thank you all so much for everything you’ve done for my family!"

"I toured Pine Village Retirement Communities. Their apartments were nice. It's very clean and in great shape. They have a gym and different game rooms. They have all kinds of things for senior people. They have a lot of outings. It would be perfect for my mother-in-law. I toured the independent living, but they could add assisted living at any point in time. You don't have to move; you're in one place. The staff members were very welcoming, very nice, and very knowledgeable. They have one-bedrooms; it was all one-bedroom. The facilities are very nice. I wish my mother-in-law would go there, I think it would be great."

"Whispering Pines' rooms were very clean and spacious. The drawback was that it was two levels, and I was concerned about my parents being able to go to the lower level to the dining area. They had a little quilting area setup and played cards. They had like a little café area, movies, church, and fitness room. "

"My mother is at Life Care Center. It's a good place. We have no problems at all with her being there. She said the food is good. The staff is wonderful, and I deal with them almost every day. It's a great place to go. They take good care of her."
