The Best Independent Living Communities in Laurens County, SC

"My husband is at The Renaissance Senior Living. It's a lovely place in Due West. It is set in the country, which is what my husband is used to because we're from Connecticut. It's just way too expensive. It's been excellent. The people have been very kind and caring for him. He has dementia and stage four kidney disease and they have been very in tune with what he needs. They've been very kind, very caring, and providing him with stimulating activities every day. They also have cognitive therapy that he gets. They've been more than helpful compared to other places. They have very nice grounds that he can walk on, which is what he loves to do. It's a very cozy place. They take them out weekly to either The Dollar Store or Walmart or things like that and they love it. It's across the street from Erskine College, so there are people around. It's an excellent setting the way they have it done. Although it's not as big as other places, it's 120 beds. They've just been more than kind and extremely helpful to me who is the caregiver. I can't say enough positive things about how kind they've been to me, which has made this so much easier. I have not tried the food, but my husband seems to be satisfied with it. It's very clean. He takes part in many more things than I thought he would. He seems to be able to get other people, like he loves doing puzzles, and he'll put them on a big table they provide for him, and then he'll ask if any of the people that just stay in their rooms all day long want to come down and help him and he gets them out of their rooms, so it's good for him. He feels like he's accomplishing something, which is actually how he's always been. He enjoys having other people do it with him. It's an excellent value. As far as what they charge, it is well worth it."

"My friend will be moving into Harmony at Five Forks. We're waiting for a bed, but we've already paid a down payment for it. It was quiet, it was very clean, and it didn't seem like a nursing home. It was more like apartments and very private. The staff was very pleasant. The food was very good. They had games and there was music going on when I was there. A little boy was playing the piano and it was very nice. The layout of the apartments was very good. It has a little kitchenette. It's like a small apartment, and it's nice. They have a therapy room that she will be using. They have a beauty parlor and an outdoor area. There was a screened-in porch that was very large and very private with ceiling fans. A lot of their amenities were included with the price. There wasn't a lot of extra stuff. What you pay is what you get."

"I went to see Maple Brook Terrace. It was very well-organized and well-managed. The entire place is very well maintained. For the time that I was there, it was very clean. With everything that they offer, I think the place is worth selecting. I didn't get a chance to intermingle with the staff other than the lady who was giving the tour and she was an excellent tour guide. I didn't have enough time to participate in one of the lunches that they were having, but she took me to a couple of rooms. One of the residents also allowed us into a room and showed us what it was like inside with furnishings and all that stuff. The room was very clean and very organized. You could tell that somebody watches out for their well-being. I don't think there's anything more that I can say other than high praise for the way they maintain the place."

"The thing we like most about Quillen Manor is that my mother-in-law is safe and kept clean. Her room is kept nice. The activities that they have are engaging. Several of the staff are so kind to her. She thinks she is still at work in the office, so they will give her envelopes and papers, and she can write things down and stuff just to keep her busy. They're really kind about things like that. The turnover in staff is the one thing that I'm not happy with. I know that it's a high-demand job. They're expected to do a whole lot. The turnover is not my favorite, but I understand you have to make a living for your family. They take care of all my mother-in-law's medications. Doctors like podiatrists come here. They have physical therapy on site. They have a gym that they go to. The dining is wonderful. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. They have activities. For those who are physically able, they go out and see the lights. There's a performing arts center about a block away, and so they'll go around Christmas time and see a Christmas performance. They have some people coming in from the community at least once a week, if not twice a week. Different groups come through. Some sing, and some come in and do Bible studies or play games. They also really work hard to keep it clean and smelling fresh. It's not the newest of everything, but you know going in that it is clean and they take care of it. They take pride in the facility."

"My parents will be moving into the Legacy Reserve at Fairview Park. I like that it's new. It has up-to-date features and amenities. The room is a fairly good size. It has a nice kitchen that is very complete. It has a very big walk-in closet. They have 24-hour transportation, which comes in handy when they need to go somewhere. They also have assisted living and memory care on the same campus. The staff gave me a really good tour and answered all my questions. They have a nice saltwater pool, a fitness center, and a lot of nice dining options."

"The Springs is a very clean facility. It's brick solid foundation. It's wheelchair-handicapped accessible facility. They have a memory care and assisted living. The rooms are nice with large bathrooms. The residents are taken out for walks, to outings, to the mall or somewhere. They also have a nice area where they allow the residents to go take a walk, and they have a nice library, too. A day care center would be great for those who can't come in and do activities and enjoy those things for those who are homebound. The staff is very nice and friendly, very knowledgeable medical staff. "
