"I went to Cedar Lake, it looked like a pretty good place, but the food only looked so-so. The menu didn't have a lot of different stuff. The rooms were nice, the staff was nice, and they had a courtyard. It was OK."

"The Gardens at Creekside was very friendly. It was clean and organized. It was clear as to what each area was designed for. I liked the fact that someone was sitting in the reception area waiting to greet me. Someone was expecting me and waiting to come out and talk to me who was not the same person who was sitting there speaking to residents. There was a little emergency store where you can get emergency items if you don't want to go to the grocery store. There's an area where people can just gather and greet each other. The lady that did the tour was attentive and organized. She knew what she was talking about. She was detailed and friendly. The dining area was open and clean. It was clear what they had to offer for dining services. They send you a menu for the week and you sign up for what you want and then it's available for whatever you sign up for, and they had good options for what they gave you. The apartments were clean, beautiful, and roomy. They're nice."

"So far, I found the people at Bloom Living to be very friendly and helpful. It's quiet, it's very social, everybody has been so helpful. The people who work here are also helpful, they answer any question you have, and they're friendly and nice. In fact, they ordered our meal for tonight even though they don't serve food. On each floor there's an activity room where people can do puzzles together, they have books you can check out, and they offer exercise classes given by a former physical therapist. They have a coffee hour in the morning where everybody gets together and starts the day with socializing. There are walking paths, there's an outside barbecue, and there are chairs out there around a little pond with ducks."

"We toured Colonial Village. They have all levels of care. It is big, nice and open. It meets all the criteria. The problem is that the dining room is closed in the evening. They don't cook dinners. They cook two meals, breakfast, and lunch. One of the reasons we are getting out of our house is because my wife is incapable of cooking. They met all the criteria except that they don't have meals in the evening, so we were quite disappointed. The rooms are nice and big. They have one- and two-bedrooms. They have one-and-a-half baths and two baths. They have a lot of variety of things. They have all the usual activities, and those rooms were nice and big, too. We went around with the staff, Jill, and she was extremely nice."

"We toured The Fairways of Ironhorse. The place is fabulous. It's nice and clean and it's right on the golf course. We had lunch there, which was good. Their pricing structure was a little different, but it is doable. They have one-bedrooms and two-bedroom-two-baths. They're quite long rooms. They have an underground garage, but they charge you for it for a hundred bucks a month. They have a washer and a dryer in the unit. It's very impressive. However, they don't have assisted living. The staff who assisted us, his name is John, and he was super nice. He invited us to lunch, and we had lunch there. For amenities, they had everything. They had transportation to shopping and to doctor's visits. They also had group activities."

"I have lived in Independent Living for 18 months. I am a retired nurse so I am picky and toured all in KC several times. The amenities here are by far the best and the residents are engaged in many activities. It is resident driven in that residents decide what clubs and activities to start up. To date about 25 clubs. Everything from Nature Club to Woodworking in our own shop. We have an art room and instructor. We have a big pool with water aerobics & classes. We have a gym and fitness instructor & classes. We have our own Med Clinic with 2 Drs on duty 5 days a week. We show 2 movies a week. We even have our personal gardens and a ukelele club. We take 1-2 regional day trips a month. We have a bus to the grocery, drugstores & shopping twice weekly. A bus to the casino. We have church service & vespers weekly. Local entertainment and informative talks weekly. Condo Apartments from 1-3 bedrooms some with balcony or patio. All nice and many brand new. We have rehab, memory care, and skilled care ( 5 star Medicare rating) on our grounds. Food excellent with 2 cafes and a small market place deli. Covered parking and some underground parking. Two wonderful social workers and an activity director. Best of all are the residents and staff- we support each other and work together to make life enjoyable. Our staff are the best. If you have a concern you turn it in and there is follow up by either one of our resident committees or management immediately. All this service makes buy in price worth it. Majority of residents like it here and we have a lot of fun. We do have one grumpy resident "

"Aberdeen Village was beautiful, but it was the dollars and cents, having to buy into it, and $15,000 is a lot of money. It was so nice and clean. The man who took us around was just a lot of fun. It had all of the things that I wanted, except that I would have to buy it. The people were nice. They had everything so prepared. They had a train all set up. There were so many nice things there."

"I found an apartment at Aspen Ridge | Active Adult Community. It's for 55+ and it's working very well. It's very good. They have a bible study on Wednesdays and there are three or four different fitness programs or exercise-type things that vary every day of the week. They have a shuttle to Wal-Mart every Tuesday. There's also a continental breakfast every day. Wednesday, they make breakfast of some sort like biscuits and gravy and pancakes, and a week before that, it was French toast and eggs. At the end of the halls, they had puzzle tables that were there all the time. It's all very good. There's evening stuff to do. A lot of people that have been here are very friendly. You meet a lot of people. They have entertainment on Friday. They have a little puzzle contest. You pick up your entries on Monday or Tuesday and then turn them in. There are drawings for those that got them right and stuff. There's a colored pencil art class. There are a lot of things and you can choose to participate or not. You have a full kitchen and you can do your own thing. They also have garage buildings across the street. They have a very good walking area that circles the entire place. Price-wise, it was less than the others that I looked at. It was a much cheerier, light place. For older people with their eyesight, it is an advantage to have lighter surroundings. The staff is very good. I don't have any problem at all. You get all your questions answered fast and efficiently. The food has been very good. The meal costs you $7 to $8 to order. You can order lunch or dinner, and they bring that every day if you don't want to cook yourself. The activities are very good. People play a lot and a lot of them have card games that they will play with a group. The residents are very friendly and helpful."

"I went to Santa Marta, and if I hit the lottery, that is where I am going to place my mom. The place was beautiful, and it's a Catholic-run facility, so they have a chapel there, and they do mass. The rooms were really nice. It seems like the dining area was very nice as well. The staff was really, really wonderful. "

"I'll be moving into Sorrento at Deer Creek. It is an active community, which is what I need right now. I love the staff. It's a newer place, so they don't have to deal with a lot of repairs. The unit that I got is great. It's on the end and my back patio faces trees, so it's very private. They have a place where you can bathe your dog, and they also have a groomer that comes there on site. They have a nail tech that comes in. They have a hair tech person. They love animals. They have a pool and a great gym."

"We chose Greenway Villas for Mom because of the layout of the facility, it is a multiplex that is all rent style one level, the cost is a little more reasonable, and the location. Once the unit is available and we are seriously interested, then we can go in person. Prior to that, it's just online pictures. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. It's a 55+ community and they have activities, but they don't have any medical care available. They have morning coffee and they have a little coffee shop that they have set up in one of their units, so they can gather for visitation. They do outdoor picnics, and they have a gazebo area where they have outdoor activities when the weather permits. We were looking for a two-bedroom, two-bath unit. Their facility only has one bathroom, but it will work for us with our situation, and because of the cost difference, we chose to go that route. Other than that, I really liked that it's a well-maintained property. It's very inviting, more like a home instead of an apartment. They don't do food. One of the biggest things that attracted us was the ease of getting in and out. Parking is at your front door, there's a little patio area for her as well as a little fenced front porch, and it's all maintenance free exterior."

"My mother was in a duplex there, then moved to an apartment. They both have been great for her. Her one-bedroom apartment with a living room, bathroom, and kitchen, was plenty roomy for her, with plenty of closet space and kitchen cabinets. There is also a pantry for storage, and a laundry room down the hall. All the staff who work there are very nice and helpful. I haven't met one who wasn't. She likes to go to movies in her building and to church services. She also loves the exercise classes. It has been a great place for her."

"Although my mother is relatively young (68), she recently decided to call Brookdale Leawood her new home. She moved in the beginning of May 2015 and so far it's been a very positive experience. Everyone there is exceptionally friendly and they've bent over backwards to make her feel welcome. She is just now starting to find time to enjoy some of the many activities that are offered. My family and I are excited to see her living an active lifestyle again and socializing with new people. My mom raves about the food and often makes comments on how she feels like she's living in a 5-star hotel. I can only hope that her experience living at Brookdale Leawood continues to be such a wonderful one! "
